In Spacedock, the Enterprise undergoes a routine inspection led by Commander Pelia, an experienced engineer. Meanwhile,
Captain Pike takes a leave of absence to find legal support for Una Chin-Riley's trial for lying about being Illyrian, and Pike turns command over to Spock. |
2 |
When Uhura receives a distress call from La'an Noonien Singh, the Enterprise's former security chief, Spock fakes a warp core breach in order to rescue La'an from the disputed Klingon planet where she's being held prisoner. Commander Pelia discovers Spock's plan and joins the mission. |
3 |
On the Klingon planet Cajitar IV, La'an is shocked when she sees Spock, M'Benga, Chapel and Uhura on the planet's surface. She explains that the Broken Circle, a group of Federation and Klingon citizens bent on war, had collected Federation weapons that were poisoning the planet's residents. |
| 4 |
As La'an poses as an arms dealer to uncover the Klingons' plot, M'Benga and Chapel are captured and forced to treat poisoned Klingons aboard a fake Starfleet vessel. They fight their way to the starship's bridge to send the Enterprise a coded message, reliving their time in the war. |
5 |
The rogue Klingons launch their imposter ship with Chapel and M'Benga aboard. Uhura receives M'Benga's message telling Enterprise to destroy the ship before it attacks a Klingon vessel, restarting the war. M'Benga and Chapel escape by jumping into the cold of space just as Enterprise destroys the enemy ship. |
6 |
With M'Benga and Chapel rescued and recovering in sickbay, Spock leads an away team to negotiate with the Klingons, and in the process, he bonds with Pelia. Later, Admiral April reprimands Spock for faking a warp core breach on the Enterprise in order to rescue La'an. April and his colleagues discuss a coming Gorn invasion. |
| 7 |
As Captain Batel offers Una Chin-Riley a plea bargain for her court martial, Pike seeks Una's estranged friend Neera Ketoul, hoping she'll defend Una. Initially resistant, Neera agrees. In a tense first meeting about the case, Neera tells Una she's defending her, not out of friendship but on behalf of all Illyrians. |
8 |
With potentially twenty years of prison time looming over Una, preparations for her court martial begin in earnest, including Neera insisting Una follow her lead. Meanwhile, aboard the Enterprise, the crew attempts to help her case by lobbying the opposing side's officers and providing Neera with any necessary resources. |
9 |
Una's court-martial begins and she pleads not guilty. Neera questions the first witness, Admiral Robert April. He affirms Una's impeccable record but confirms that he wouldn't have sponsored her admission into Starfleet had he known she was Illyrian. Neera uses his previous violations of Federation law to undermine his testimony. |
| 10 |
Una confronts Neera over her courtroom tactics. Later, Spock, La'an and M'Benga act as character witnesses on behalf of their friend. Following her testimony, La'an privately confesses to Neera that she believes she turned in Una and reveals her fear that she may become the monster her ancestor Khan was. |
11 |
Una takes the stand in her own defense, recounting her difficult childhood as an augment and the racism and danger she and people like her faced. She found hope in Starfleet's motto "Ad Astra Per Aspera," which translates "to the, stars through hardship." Una shockingly reveals she turned herself into Starfleet. |
12 |
The prosecuting officer, a Vulcan named Pasalk, dismisses the emotional nature of Una's defense. Neera asks Batel to read the Starfleet code providing the conditions for asylum. As Una fits the criteria, the judges grant her asylum, restoring her Starfleet commission. She thanks Neera for helping all people like them. |
| 13 |
A mysterious intruder appears on the Enterprise and hands La'an a small time travel device, pleading with her to "get to the bridge" and stop a change in the timeline. She heads to the ship's command center. There, she finds herself in an alternate reality. |
14 |
La'an explains her reality-jumping to this alternate reality's captain of the Enterprise, James T. Kirk, who is skeptical of La'an's claims of changes to the timeline. Kirk touches the time travel device, sending them both to 21st century Toronto. As they acclimatize to the city, they witness the destruction of an important bridge. |
15 |
Investigating the bridge explosion, La'an and Kirk encounter a conspiracy theorist, a photographer named Sera. Her photos reveal the explosion was caused by a photonic bomb - technology that shouldn't exist in the 21st century. After saving Kirk from the police, Sera explains how she believes the bombing was done by aliens with government support. |
| 16 |
After Sera shows Kirk and La'an a picture of a Romulan vessel, Kirk remembers that the Romulans are about to attack a cold fusion reactor, which never happened in La'an's reality. They soon find 21st century Pelia, who provides them with an antique watch that will help them find the reactor. |
17 |
La'an and Kirk share a kiss outside the building housing the cold fusion reactor, the Noonien-Singh Institute for Cultural Advancement. Sera arrives, revealing herself to be a Romulan from the future. She kills Kirk and takes La'an hostage while using her DNA to break into the laboratory building. |
18 |
Sera drags La'an to a room that holds a child named Khan Noonien-Singh. La'an kills Sera to prevent her from murdering Khan and comforts her young ancestor. She soon returns to her proper place and time, but she is devastated that she cannot share her experiences with anyone - especially with this reality's Jim Kirk. |

Batel gives Pike an Opelian Mariner's Keystone, a special necklace, as they try to share some personal time together. She then gets some disappointing news, causing Pike to pause their relationship. The crew receives orders to return to Rigel VII and reverse damage left behind from an away mission years ago. |
20 |
Pike leads La'an and M'Benga to Rigel VII, leaving a disappointed Ortegas behind to fly the ship through difficult space. The away team experiences headaches, lost time and some memory loss while on the planet. Soon, they are captured by Kalar warriors and learn Pike's former yeoman, Zac Nguyen, is alive and has named himself king. |
21 |
Trapped in a cage and without their memories, Pike, M'Benga and La'an work in a labor camp. A kindly Kalar provides tips on working through the daily "forgettings". Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, Uhura and others in the crew begin showing memory loss symptoms similar to those of the away team. |
| 22 |
La'an is injured as she and Pike fight their guards. Their Kalar guide, Lug, takes them to his home. There, M'Benga tries treating La'an's wounds. Luq explains the class struggle between the palace Kalar and those in the field. Pike holds his Opelian keystone, which Luq calls a symbol of love. |
23 |
On the Enterprise, Ortegas is the only one who remembers anything - that she flies the ship. She safely pilots the vessel through an irradiated debris field. On Rigel VII, Pike desperate to save La'an, charges the palace. As his memories return, Pike captures Zac, placing his fate in Starfleet's hands. |
24 |
Having saved La'an, the away team returns to the Enterprise. Pike orders the memory-blocking, irradiated asteroid removed from Rige VII's orbit, freeing the Kalar from their forgettings. Later, Pike apologizes to Batel, telling her that her gift of the Opelian mariner's keystone, the symbol of their love, brought him home. |
| 25 |
On the eve of his V'Shal dinner - a Vulcan betrothal ceremony - Spock is wounded during a research mission to investigate a rupture in spacetime close to the Kerkhovian moon. With his Vulcan DNA removed by the interdimensional Kerkhovians, a fully human Spock experiences a variety of emotions for the first time. |
26 |
Una and La'an investigate the damaged shuttle and find it in pristine condition. Uhura finds a way to contact the Kerkhovians, who explain they "fixed" the shuttle, Chapel, and Spock. Although Spock's emotions help him feel more comfortable with the crew, Chapel is desperate to find a cure to restore his Vulcan DNA. |
27 |
After comforting Chapel, who had a disappointing interview for a fellowship at the Vulcan Science Academy, Spock welcomes his mother Amanda aboard. She reveals that T'Pring's family demands the V'Shal dinner to be held on the Enterprise. Amanda and the crew help Spock, who still has not regained his Vulcan DNA or appearance, masquerade as Vulcan for the dinner. |
| 28 |
T'Pring boards the Enterprise, and she's stressed about the V'Shal dinner. Spock expends great effort to keep up the illusion that he is still Vulcan. He struggles to fully suppress his emotions as T'Pring's mother, T'Pril, repeatedly insults him. Pike stalls the ritual mind-meld by inviting the guests to play charades. |
29 |
Chapel, Ortegas and Uhura travel to interdimensional space to plead with the Kerkhovians to restore Spock's Vulcan DNA. To gain their help, Chapel reveals she has feelings for Spock, and she secures the cure. She races back to the Enterprise and administers it near the end of the V'Shal rituals. |
30 |
With his Vulcan DNA restored, Spock performs the ritual mind meld. Afterwards, T'Pril arrogantly acknowledges Spock's human
"handicap." Angry, Spock discloses he completed the ritual as a human, his physical Vulcan characteristics had not yet returned. T'Pring and Spock agree to take time part. Later, Chapel kisses Spock, revealing her feelings for him. |
| 31 |
As the Enterprise and Farragut crews finish construction of a deuterium refinery, Uhura hears terrifying noises. She recalibrates the communications systems, stirring memories of Hemmer. Afterwards, Uhura has a frightening hallucination of Hemmer's corpse, which M'Benga attributes to the deuterium. |
32 |
On the deuterium refinery, Pelia defies an order from Una and finds signs of sabotage. On the Enterprise, Jim Kirk beams aboard and finds himself fighting with his brother Sam in the bar. He meets Uhura, who moments later punches him out during a hallucination. |
33 |
Kirk promises to help Uhura overcome her hallucinations. She soon has another horrifying vision that the ship is under attack while hearing more frightening sounds. Meanwhile, on the refinery, Una and Pelia discover a potential saboteur hallucinating like Uhura. He's beamed to the Enterprise, where his hallucinations turn violent. |
| 34 |
Uhura unsuccessfully tries stopping Lt. Ramon from sabotaging the Enterprise like he had done to the deuterium refinery. However, he is killed in a warp nacelle explosion. Elsewhere, La'an introduces herself to Jim Kirk, subtly referencing her experience with an alternate-reality version of him to show that she understands him. |
35 |
Jim Kirk and Uhura review Ramon's personal logs, hoping to cure Uhura's hallucinations. Kirk supports her as she increasingly panics. She reveals she's haunted by the deaths of her family and Hemmer. She realizes the noise she's been hearing is a message and asks Sam Kirk for his expertise. |
36 |
Uhura learns her hallucinations are a distress call from a species that lives in the deuterium. Pike orders the refinery destroyed, ending the torture of the deuterium creatures. Later, Una and Pelia settle their issues, while on the Enterprise, Uhura introduces Spock to James T. Kirk. |
| 37 |

In 2381, Ensigns Brad Boimler, Beckett Mariner, D'Vana Tendi and Sam Rutherford, also known as the "Lower Deckers" of the Cerritos, study an ancient portal on the planet Krulmuth-B. Rutherford takes a holo-image of Boimler, activating the portal and sending him back in time to 2259 - and Pike's Enterprise. |
38 |
Boimler awakens in Sickbay, starstruck as he meets Captain Pike and the crew. La'an reminds Boimler of the rules of time travel. He fumbles his way through, trying not to disrupt the timeline. He is disconcerted when he sees Spock laugh and stops the Enterprise from attacking an Orion ship. |
39 |
Boimler accidentally reveals that Pike's upcoming birthday is a holiday in the future and causes Chapel to stop encouraging Spock's emotional journey. After convincing the Orions to return the portal they took from Krulmuth-B, the crew activates the portal to send him back, unintentionally drawing Mariner to their time instead. |
| 40 |
To figure out how to get them home, Pike allows Mariner to work with Uhura, while Boimler partners with Spock. Mariner helps Uhura relax, which helps her and Ortegas decipher the language on the portal. Elsewhere, Spock and Boimler fail to synthesize horonium, making Boimler and Mariner's trip home unlikely. |
41 |
Boimler finds Mariner in a shuttlecraft he planned to use to trade the portal with the Orions to get the grain he caused the Enterprise to lose. Pike confines them to quarters and asks them to cancel his birthday party. The conversation leads Boimler to figure out a way home. |
42 |
Bomiler reveals there is some horonium from the Enterprise NX-01 inside the ship. The horonium activates the portal, sending Boimler and Mariner home. The Enterprise crew celebrates with some Orion drinks, causing them to see the world in two dimensions. |
| 43 |
The Enterprise welcomes aboard Dak'Rah, a Klingon defector-turned-ambassador. His presence unnerves some of the crew who battled in the Klingon War, including Ortegas, Chapel and M'Benga. Pike attempts to diffuse the tension among his officers, while Spock synthesizes raktajino in an effort to make him teel welcome. |
44 |
M'Benga and Chapel flashback to their assignment to a field hospital, led by Buck Martinez, on the moon of J'Gal. Immediately after their first meeting, M'Benga teaches Chapel to use the transporter pattern buffer to save patients. In the present, Pike checks on M'Benga and Chapel's emotional health. |
45 |
The crew gathers in Pike's quarters for a formal dinner celebrating Rah. Veterans M'Benga, Chapel and Ortegas rely on each other as they struggle to suppress their difficult emotions. Meanwhile, M'Benga remembers the night in the war when he was recruited to help kill "The Butcher of J'Gal" Rah. |
| 46 |
The dinner comes to an awkward end as Ortegas brings up the rumors that Rah killed his soldiers. Ortegas, Chapel and M'Benga leave Pike's quarters upset. M'Benga flashes back to a conversation he had with a wounded Starfleet officer, trying to give him hope in the future. |
47 |
M'Benga accepts Rah's invitation to practice mok'bara. As they spar, Rah asks M'Benga to join him in his quest for peace. saying it would be a powerful symbol of Federation-Klingon unity. After the match, M'Benga recalls using a tormula to enhance his strength before setting out to kill Rah. |
48 |
Rah visits M'Benga in Sickbay before leaving the ship. M'Benga reveals thai it was he, not Rah, who killed the Klingons on J'Gal, while Rah escaped like a coward. Chapel witnesses a struggle between them. Moments later, Rah is dead. Later, M'Benga tells Pike he's not sad Rah is dead. |
| 49 |
As Uhura, Spock and Pelia study a subspace fold, Pike and Batel unsuccesstully try to plan a vacation. La'an greets James Kirk in the transporter room, and Chapel learns she got a desired fellowship. A test on the fold results in the crew providing a status report - in song! |
50 |
With reports of song coming from the entire ship, Spock explains the Enterprise was hit by a quantum uncertainty field exposing them to a musical reality. The crew theorizes ways to close the field. Later, Una sings advice to Kirk, and La'an intones about her desire to find love with Kirk. |
51 |
La'an warns Pike that the musical numbers expose everyone's deepest-held emotions. After the crew's efforts to close the rift fail, Pike and Batel sing about their relationship tensions, learning the improbability field has spread across Starfleet. Meanwhile, La'an and Una share a duet about no longer keeping secrets. |
| 52 |
Kirk and La'an's efforts to figure out how to close the field nearly destroy engineering. They learn the field has impacted the Klingons who are determined to destroy the subspace fold and every affected ship. The crew works feverishly to stop them. Meanwhile, Chapel sings in celebration of her fellowship. |
53 |
La'an reveals her time travel experience and her subsequent feelings for Kirk. He responds it's complicated because his "sometimes" girlfriend Carol is pregnant. Spock sings a lamentation about Chapel leaving. Moments later, Uhura sings about keeping the crew connected, through which she uncovers the solution to closing the rift. |
54 |
To close the improbability field, the entire crew must join in song in a grand finale musical number. Uhura unites her crew mates, with everyone singing on the Enterprise. Even the Klingons join in. Their signing shatters the improbability field, and the crew reflects on the emotional journey they endured. |
| 55 |
On the way to her fellowship, Chapel joins Batel and the Cayuga crew on a mission to support the Parnassus Beta colony. Batel receives a call from Pike, but it is interrupted when a Gorn vessel attacks she colony. The Enterprise races to Parnassus Beta to find the Cayuga has been destroyed. |
56 |
With a Gorn interference field blocking communications, sensors and transporters, the Enterprise is unable to rescue survivors of the Gorn attacks. More Gorn ships arrive, creating a demarcation line. Armed with special anti-Gorn weapons, Pike, Ortegas, M'Benga, La'an and Sam Kirk travel to the colony in a disguised shuttlecraft. |
57 |
The away team tries to shut down the interference field. They find shelter from roaming Gorn and encounter Starfleet engineer Lt. Montgomery Scott. On the Enterprise, the crew continues searching for survivors, and Uhura shares with Pelia a "crazy idea" for stopping the interference field. |
| 58 |
Scotty takes the away team to an abandoned diner where Pike reunites with Batel. Scotty explains how he hid his shuttlecraft from the Gorn. On the Enterprise, the crew devises a plan to use the Cayuga's saucer section to crash into the interference field generator on the planet. |
59 |
Pike, Scotty and Batel race to Scotty's damaged shuttle to retrieve the device he used to hide from the Gorn. Meanwhile, on the Cayuga's saucer, Chapel evades a Gorn soldier and sees Spock placing boosters around the saucer's exterior. She grabs an EV suit, desperate to join him and escape. |
60 |
Spock saves Chapel from a Gorn and the two escape as the Cayuga's saucer crashes, destroying the interference field. On the surface, Batel reveals she's been infected with Gorn eggs. With the interference field destroyed, Enterprise beams up the crew. Chapel treats Batel, while Pike must decide whether to engage the Gorn. |
