Number One
Number One commanded the Enterprise while Captain Pike was a captive of the Talosians. Maintaining a relatively calm and cool demeanor, Number One made two attempts to free the captain—first with a powerful laser weapon on the planet's surface, and then by beaming directly to Pike's location—but neither endeavor worked out as planned. Number One's decision to begin a forced-chamber overload of her laser pistol ultimately led to the release of Pike and the crew. |
WC2 |
|
Beverly Crusher
When Data left the Enterprise-D with one of Lore's Borg drones, Captain Picard led the search for his missing officer on a nearby planet and left Doctor Beverly Crusher in command of the ship. She and her skeleton crew fended off a Borg vessel before taking refuge in the corona of the planet's sun. Ultimately, Crusher's team destroyed the Borg ship using previously untried methods and then returned to the planet to retrieve the rest of the crew, including Data. |
WC3 |
|
Deanna Troi
Counselor Deanna Troi, a lieutenant commander, was the highest ranking officer on the bridge and thus became the acting captain when a quantum filament badly damaged the Enterprise-D, isolating different parts of the ship. Bewildered at first, Troi soon found her footing. She resisted Ensign Ro's call to separate the saucer section, which proved a wise decision, as the rest of the crew turned out to be alive in the stardrive section. Nevertheless, Troi was relieved to turn command back over to Picard. |
WC4 |
|
Kira Nerys
Colonel Kira Nerys assumed command of Deep Space 9 after Captain Sisko sacrificed himself returning the Pah-wraiths to the Fire Caves. The Dominion War was over, and Kira allowed herself to relax a bit. She felt at home in the station's commanding office, but she missed the captain. Tossing Sisko's baseball into the air, Kira congratulated Nog on his promotion to lieutenant and then went to warn Quark not to create any betting pools concerning the next Kai. The
station was hers now. |
WC5 |
|
Jadzia Dax
Captain Bennet's promotion to command of the seventh tactical wing meant Captain Sisko had to replace Bennet on Starbase 375, leaving Jadzia Dax in command of the Defiant. Dax led the vessel and its crew on a mission to destroy a Dominion sensor array near the Argolis Cluster. The mission was a success, and the Defiant's triumphant return to the starbase under acting Captain Dax showed Sisko that Jadzia could handle the vessel's crew just as well as he could. |
WC6 |
|
Kathryn Janeway
Captain Kathryn Janeway of the U.S.S. Voyager took her vessel into the Badlands on a mission to track down a Maquis vessel, the Val Jean. Soon after Voyager arrived in the Badlands, the ship was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker's Array. Faced with the most difficult decision of her career, Janeway chose to destroy the Array to keep it from the Kazon—a decision that stranded Voyager 70,000 light years from home. |
WC7 |
|
Seven of Nine
The deadly radiation from a Mutara-class nebula compelled Voyager's crew to go into stasis chambers for over a month. The only two unaffected crew members, Seven of Nine and the Doctor, remained awake. Captain Janeway put the Doctor in command, but when his program went offline, Seven was left alone to oversee shipwide functions, make repairs, and ensure the crew survived the journey. The extended period of isolation caused Seven to hallucinate, but she succeeded in getting
Voyager through the nebula. |
WC8 |
|
T'Pol
T'Pol, a capable commander of the Enterprise-NX-01 in Captain Archer's absence, took charge when radiation from a trinary star system incapacitated everyone but herself. During Archer's solo mission to destroy the Xindi weapon, T'Pol commanded the Enterprise in a battle against several Reptilian warships. She then led the effort to destroy the Delphic Expanse spheres. In an alternate timeline, T'Pol replaced Archer as captain after interspatial parasites left him with anterograde amnesia. |
WC9 |
|
Saavik
Lieutenant Saavik commanded the starship Enterprise during a Kobayashi Maru scenario at Starfleet Academy. Despite knowing Starfleet regulations in detail, Saavik chose to enter the Klingon Neutral Zone in an attempt to rescue a freighter. Her action resulted in the deaths of her entire bridge crew. It was only a simulation, of course, but Saavik protested to Admiral Kirk that the scenario had not been a fair test of her command abilities because there was no way to win. |
