Outlaws
A small band of renegades known as the Maquis flee their pursuers, a Cardassian Galor Class warship commanded by Gul Evek. They are led by Chakotay, a former Starfleet officer who is a Native American descendant, and B'Elanna Torres, a half-Human/half-Klingon engineer who left Starfleet Academy because she couldn't conform to the disciplines of the service. |
2 |
|
Desperate Flight
Although the Maquis craft is a small tlarget, it's no match for a Cardassian warship. Warp drive is out, and only impulse power is left. Chakotay orders that the last of the ship's photon torpedoes be fired at their pursuer, and the remaining weapons power be diverted to the impulse engines. The Maquis alter course for a nearby plasma storm in an area known as the "Badlands." |
3 |
|
Evasive Maneuvers
The Maquis ship enters the Badlands, hoping that the Cardassians will break off their pursuit. But their Vulcan tactician, named Tuvok, reports that the warship has followed them into the plasma storm. "Gul Evek must feel daring today," Chakotay remarks. The small craft whips around funnel clouds within the storm, hoping that the much larger warship will hit one. |
4 |
|
Phenomena
Gul Evel's ship is struck by a tendril of energy plasma, and must break off pursuit. But the Maquis victory is short-lived. A tetryon beam scans their ship. Tuvok detects a large displacement wave that has appeared out of nowhere, and is bearing down upon them. They don't bave the power to outrun it. In a flash of light, the small spacecraft disappears. |

|
Rehabilitation
At a Federation penal settlement in Auckland, New Zealand on Earth, outmate Tom Paris works on the repair of some equipment. After being expelled from Starfleet for lying about an accident, Paris was captured and imprisoned while a member of the Maquis. His task is interrupted by the arrival of a Starfleet Captain. "Kathryn Janeway," she says.
I served with your father on the Al-Batani." |
6 |
|
A Second Chance
Captain Janeway asks Tom Paris to talk with her. She explains that one of her crew members, Security Officer Tuvok, was working undercover in the Maquis with a Starfleet renegade, named Chakotay. Tuvok has disappeared with the others in the Badlands. Janeway wants Paris to help her find Tuvok and the Maquis: if they succeed, Paris will be a free man. Paris accepts. |
7 |
|
Reporting for Duty
Having been released from the Federation penal settlement, Tom Paris is ferried aboard a Starfleet shuttlecraft to his new assignment under the command of Captain Kathryn Janeway. Piloting the shultlecraft is a Betazoid lieutenant named Stadi. Although Paris is an excellent pilot himself, he will only be an observer on the mission. Stadi will be assigned as helmsman. |
8 |
|
Deep Space Rendezvous
Paris and Stadi arrive at space station Deep Space Nine, located in Bajoran space near the Demilitarized Zone where the Maquis ship was lost. For the first time, Paris sees the starship to which he has been assigned — the U.S.S. Voyager, NCC-74656. The Intrepid Class vessel, with a crew complement of 141, is state-of-the-art technology. It has a sustainable cruise velocity of Warp 9.975, fifteen decks and uses bio-neural circuitry. |

About Ferengi
Fresh out of Starfleet Academy, enthusiastic young ensign Harry Kim passes time in Quark's bar before reporting to the U.S.S. Voyager. The Ferengi Quark tries to fleece the naive young man by selling him supposedly rare and precious crystals. Kim replies that he was warned about Ferengi af the Academy, to which Quark reacts with ire. To calm him down, Kim agrees to buy the stones for his parents. |
10 |
|
No Sale
Just as Quark is about to trick Harry Kim into buying his tray of crystals, Tom Paris appears. "Dazzling, aren't they?" Paris says. "Hard to believe you can find them on any planet in the system." Realizing that Quark was about to con him, Kim returns the tray to Quark, no sale. "Didn't they warn you about Ferengi at the Academy?" Paris jokes. Paris has made his first friend among the U.S.S. Voyager crew. |
11 |
|
Contrasting Receptions
Harry Kim and Tom Paris board The U.S.S. Voyager for the first time, and following protocol, report to the ship's Chief Medical Officer in Sickbay. Although the Medical Officer is warm and friendly to Harry, he bristles when addressing Tom. The doctor is aware of Mr. Paris' dark past and wants little to do with him. Harry begins to realize that there may be more to his new friend than meets the eye. |
12 |
|
Farewells
As the U.S.S. Voyager prepares to embark on its mission, Captain Janeway calls Mark, a man with whom she is romantically involved. Mark reports that Janeway's pet dog is expecting puppies. She asks that Mark take her dog home with him while she is away. "Is this another 'Love me, love my dog' demand?" Mark teases. They exchange tender goodbyes, unaware that this may be the last time they see one another. |
13 |
|
Departures
Harry Kim and Tom Paris report to Captain Janeway in her Ready Room. She escorts them onto the bridge, where she introduces them to the first officer, Lieutenant Commander Cabot. Cabot's response to Paris is as cold as was the Chief Medical Officer's, and he shakes his hand only with the greatest of reluctance. At Cabot's command, Lieutenant Stadi initiates the ship's launching sequence. |
14 |
|
Destination: Badlands
With the crew at their assigned posts, the U.S.S. Voyager prepares to embark on its mission. "Engage," Captain Janeway orders, and the starship maneuvers clear of the space station pylon. The vessel turns and heads for the Badlands, in an attempt to locate the crew's missing security officer, Lieutenant Tuvok. |
15 |
|
You say Tomato
While the U.S.S. Voyager heads for the Badlands, several of the crew use the opportunity to enjoy a meal. Tom Paris enters the mess hall and orders tomato soup from the replicator, but finds the taste not to his liking. He spots Harry Kim sitting with First Officer Cabot and the doctor; as Paris moves to join them, the senior officers get up and leave. |
16 |
|
Confession
From the look in Harry Kim's eyes, Tom Paris realizes that the young ensign has heard the rumors about Paris' past. Paris tells Kim about an accident he caused that killed three fellow crewmembers. At first he lied about his involvement, but then changed his mind and told the truth — a bitter truth that cost him his career. After leaving Starfleet, he joined the Maquis only to be caught on his first mission. |
17 |
|
Missing in Action
The U.S.S. Voyager enters the plasma storm and begins its search for the missing Maquis ship. Relying on Tom Paris' observations, Janeway decides to head for a Class-M planet within the storm. No physical evidence can be detected of a destroyed ship, so Janeway assumes that the Maquis Ship survived. The starship heads deeper into the storm. |
18 |
|
Wave Front
As the U.S.S. Voyager continues its search, the starship is suddenly scanned by a coherent tetryon beam of unknown origin. Ensign Kim examines the sensor readings and discovers a large displacement wave heading directly for the U.S.S. Voyager. Janeway orders a retreat, but the ship can travel only at impulse speed within the plasma storm. |
19 |
|
Swept Away
The bridge crew braces for impact. The displacement wave overtakes the ship, and in a flash of light the starship suffers heavy damage. When the crew members regain their senses, they begin to take stock of the situation. The prognosis is grim — several crew members have been killed, including First Officer Cabot, Lieutenant Stadi and the ship's Chief Medical Officer. |
20 |
|
The Array
Ensign Harry Kim's sensors detect the presence of a structure outside the starship. On the view screen appears the image of a huge alien structure, an array that is firing pulses of energy at regular intervals. The abandoned Maquis ship drifts nearby. Kim determines their location — U.S.S. Voyager has somehow been pulled 70,000 light years across the galaxy to the Delta Quadrant. |
21 |
|
Medical Emergency
Engineering reports that the chief engineer has been killed and that a warp core breach is probable. Janeway leaves for Engineering, while Kim and Paris head for Sickbay. They find the doctor dead and a console on fire. Kim acts quickly to extinguish the blaze Meanwhile, Janeway directs the engineering staff in repairing a warp core micro fracture. |
22 |
|
Holographic Help
Kim activates the emergency medical holographic program. A male holographic doctor appears. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency." the doctor says. The doctor immediately begins to tend to the wounded, but warns that he is only a temporary measure, to act as a supplement to the medical staff. Paris explains that they are far from home and replacements can't be expected. |
23 |
|
Micro fracture
Janeway reaches Engineering to find a warp core breach in progress. The computer reports a micro fracture in the core. Thinking quickly, she orders the magnetic constrictors to be activated, lowering the pressure in the warp core. The crew seals the micro fracture, and the constrictors are removed. The pressure drops and the core can perform normally again. |
24 |
|
Complications
A call from the bridge alerts Janeway that the array is scanning the starship. penetraling the shields. Janeway asks. "What kind of scan?" and gets no reply as the communication link is suddenly severed. One by one, the Engineering crew begin to disappear around her. Finally, Janeway herself is whisked аwаy, apparently by some type of transporter device. |
25 |
|
Doctored
The holographic doctor dismisses a patient, only to see the patient dematerialize before him. Everyone else in Sickbay, healthy or injured, also disappears. The doctor attempts to contact the bridge, complaining that he didn't authorize anyone transported out of Sickbay. He gets no response, and finds himself alone on the ship. |
26 |
|
Questionable Manners
The crew has materialized in what appears to be a rustic American farm. A middle-aged woman appears from the farmhouse and offers the crew refreshments. Janeway isn't fooled, she uses a tricorder to determine that they are only 100 kilometers from their starship. They are, in fact, inside the array, and what they see must be an illusion. |
27 |
|
Homespun Mystery
Janeway politely declines their hostess's offer of refreshments and identifies herself. The hostess ignores her, and gestures to new arrivals — "neighbors" who've come to welcome the crew. Among the neighbors is an elderly gentleman, who takes a seat and begins to play the banjo. The neighbors dance, but the Starfleet officers don't join in, to the frustration of their hostess. |
28 |
|
Barnyard Clue
Harry Kim uses his tricorder to scan the farm, and detects a power source emanating from the barn that might be a holographic generator. As he and Paris head for the barn, they're intercepted by a pretty farm girl who tries to lure them away. Despite her best efforts, Kim and Paris enter the barn and detect humanoid life signs. |
29 |
|
Pitched Standoff
Paris tries to reach the source of the humanoid life signs, but the farm girl strikes him. "I'm not ready for you yet!" she snarls. The hostess appears with a pitchfork in hand, along with the neighbors. Janeway and the other officers come running to back up Kim and Paris. "We'll have to proceed ahead of schedule," the hostess announces. |
30 |
|
Behind the Barn
The barn disappears and the crew sees what it was hiding — long rows of bodies immobile on beds. The neighbors herd Janeway and her people into the facility. The beds recede into the far distance. This is an examining room prepared for a specific purpose — perhaps for treatment, perhaps for research. Strapped to the beds are Tuvok and the missing Maquis crew. |
31 |
|
Invasive Procedure
The neighbors vanish in a flash of light. An instant later, the U.S.S. Voyager crew also dematerializes, only to find themselves secured to the diagnostic beds. Probes are inserted into the captives, who pass out from the pain and shock. Three days later, they find themselves back on their starship, apparently none the worse for the experience. |
32 |
|
Strategic Alliance
The crew of the U.S.S. Voyager is returned to their starship, with one exception — Harry Kim is missing. The Maquis ship is detected powering up, and Janeway contacts Commander Chakotay to determine if Kim might have been returned there by mistake. Chakotay informs her that one of his crew is missing as well, B'Elanna Torres. Janeway suggests they work together to find their missing people. |
33 |
|
Maquis Rebel
Chakotay accepts Janeway's invitation to work together to find their missing crew, and beams over with Tuvok. Janeway reveals that Tuvok was an undercover agent. Chakotay sees Paris on the bridge and angrily accuses him of betrayal. But Janeway reminds the Maquis that they have a lot to accomplish, and must work together if they are to find their people and return home. |
34 |
|
Second Visit
Tuvok concludes that a single alien entity is active within the Array, conducting examinations. Janeway assigns Tuvok to work on a way to return them to the Alpha Quadrant, while the others search for Kim and Torres. They return to the Array, but their people are no longer there. They find the banjo player. who says. "You don't have what I need!" and insists they leave. |
35 |
|
Old Debts
The banjo player dismisses Janeway as a "minor bipedal species." She explains that she is responsible for localing their missing comrades, a concept he may not understand. But the old man says that he does, that he honors "a debt that can never be repaid." When Janeway asks if he can return them home, the banjo player insists that it would be complicated and he has no time anyway. |
36 |
|
Awakening
Harry Kim awakens to find himself in some sort of recovery room. Two alien humanoids peer over him, communicating telepathically. They tell him to remain calm and lie still, that he is very ill. Kim sits up and finds lesions on several parts of his body. In a bed next to his, he sees another palient from the Alpha Quadrant rousing. |
37 |
|
Klingon Blood
B'Elanna Torres awakens and finds herself trapped in the recovery room with Kim. "Nol" she cries, leaps from her bed and tries to escape through the doors. One of the attendants tries to stop her, but she strikes him. The other attendant calls for orderlies, who restrain B'Elanna. The attendants sedate her and return her to bed. |
38 |
|
Captain's Log
While the U.S.S. Voyager remains at the Array, Janeway files a log entry. "Captain's Log, Stardate 48315.6. We've traced the energy pulses from the array to the fifth planet of the neighboring system, and believe they may have been used in some fashion to transport Kim and Torres to the planet's surface. |
39 |
|
Logical Counsel
Tuvok enters Janeway's Ready Room. He reports that the energy pulses are being sent more quickly. Janeway tells him that her analysis of the planet receiving the pulses shows that it's Class-M, but totally lacking in water. She suspects that it has befallen some extraordinary environmental disaster. Tuvok observes her exhaustion and suggests that she get some sleep. |
40 |
|
Unsuspected Ally
En roufe to the fifth planet in the solar system, the U.S.S. Voyager and the Maquis ship encounter a large debris field with one life form aboard a small vessel. Hailing the ship, Captain Janeway is greeted by a small alien, who quickly scrambles to respond that the 'waste zone' is his. After reassurances from Janeway that they are not interested in his debris, he becomes quite friendly, introducing himself as Neelix. |
41 |
|
Eccentric Guide
Neelix claims that he knows this region of space well, and surmises that they were whisked away from another part of the galaxy to this star system. Neelix tells them that the Ocampa call the alien who brought them here "the Caretaker," and suggests that their missing crew might be with them. Neelix offers to help find them in exchange for water. |
42 |
|
Beamed Aboard
Janeway directs that Neelix's spacecraft be tractored into the shuttle bay, and that Neelix be beamed aboard. Tuvok meets him at the transporter pad. Neelix is astonished by the transporter technology, and gives the Vulcan a big hug. Taking one whiff of Neelix, Tuvok suggests, "Perhaps you would care for a bath?" "A what?" Neelix asks innocently. |
43 |
|
Starfleet and Maquis
B'Elanna Torres awakens from her sedation to find herself in the recovery room wilh Harry Kim. The young ensign introduces himself. "I was kidnapped from the Array just like you were." "What was Starfleet doing at that Array?" she demands. "We were looking for you, actuall," Kim admits. Torres loses her temper again, but Kim talks her into calming down. |
44 |
|
Explanations
One of the attendants enters the recovery room. "I hope you're feeling better," he says. The attendant says that they are not prisoners, but honored guests. His people feel a personal responsibility to treat those chosen by the Caretaker. He offers Torres and Kim fresh clothes, and the opportunity to walk about freely — if they're not violent. |
45 |
|
City of Care
The attendant takes Kim and Torres on a tour of the Ocampa city. He explains that his people once lived on the surface but that, after "the warming" began, they moved underground where they have lived for 500 generations. The Ocampa are cared for by an entity known as "the Caretaker." Occasionally, they are sent "visitors" from the Caretaker, and must treat their "disease" — only no one has ever recovered. |
46 |
|
A New Experience
Tuvok enters Neelix's assigned quarters to find the Talaxian engaging in what may very well be the first bath of his life. Neelix revels in this luxury, a distasteful display to the Vulcan. Tuvok reminds him that he'd promised to help them locate the Ocampa. Neelix rises from the bath and asks Tuvok if he can have a Starfleet uniform — a request which Tuvok most assuredly denies. |
47 |
|
Rough Surface
Janeway and crew beam down with Neelix to an encampment on the surface of the Ocampa planet. It is a rough, arid landscape. In the distance are great, desolate ruins of a civilization long past. The energy pulses slam into the planet surface nearby. Neelix explains that the people living in the encampment are the Kazon-Ogla, who "control this part of the quadrant." |
48 |
|
Detoured
Neelix explains that the Kazon are a scavenger race, and the various sects fight among themselves for the essentials of life. The group in this settlement mine the rich Cormaline deposits for barter. Janeway questions why Neelix has brought them to meet the Kazon and not the Ocampa as promised, but he pushes forward, greeting the Kazon with an enthusiastic, "My friends!" |
49 |
|
Bad Manners
Although Neelix acts as if the Kazon are his good friends, their reaction is anything but cordial. They take Neelix prisoner and surround the away team, weapons at the ready. Neelix insists that he speak with their leader, Jabin, "my old friend." Jabin appears from his quarters. "Water, Jabin!" Neelix cries. "I have water to replace all that I borrowed." |
50 |
|
Watered Down
Neelix introduces Jabin to the Starfleet officers, telling the Kazon leader that they have a fantastic technology that can manufacture water. Janeway offers to Trade water for information on the Ocampa. "She is Ocampal" Jabin declares, and points to a beaten young woman. Neelix suddenly disarms Jabin, points the alien weapon at him, and demands the girl's release. |
51 |
|
Reunion
Neelix takes the Ocampa woman to his side and tells Janeway to beam them up, now. Janeway follows the advice and the officers return to the U.S.S. Voyager. In the transporter room, they discover that the woman, named Kes, is actually Neelix's lover and his offer was actually subterfuge to rescue her. Nonetheless, she will help them find Kim and Torres. |
52 |
|
Escape Route
Kim and Torres wander the tunnels of the Ocampa city. An Ocampa woman approaches and asks. "Are you in pain?" She tells of Ocampa who have broken from tradition and raise their own fruits and vegetables. She hands them a medicine made from a moss that grows on fruit trees. She tells them of ancient tunnels that lead to the planet surface. |
53 |
|
Returning the Favor
Kes explains that she reached the planet surface through breaches in the Caretaker's decaying shield. "I'm too curious." Kes says. "It's my worst falling." It's your most endearing quality, Neelix replies. Although Neelix wants to leave with Kes immediately, Kes insists that they help rescue Kim and Torres. |
54 |
|
Underground Allies
Janeway and the away team beam down with Kes and Neelix to the Ocampa city. Kes leads them to her friends, who are trying to rediscover the ability to think and care for themselves, independent of the Caretaker. She asks if anyone knows the whereabouts of the two aliens sent by the Caretaker. One friend says that they are being kept at the central clinic. |
55 |
|
Obstacles
Janeway asks Kes to lead them to the central clinic, but an Ocampa named Toscat refuses. A traditionalist, Toscat insists that to rescue the aliens would interfere with the Caretaker's wishes. Kes replies that it's time for the Ocampa to learn to think for themselves, to not acquiesce to the Caretaker. She ignores Toscat and leads the away team to find their crewmates. |
56 |
|
Change in Plans
As the away team enters the city, the constant throbbing of the energy pulses impacting the planet suddenly ceases. Janeway contacts Rollins on the bridge of the U.S.S. Voyager. He reports that the Array has stopped sending the pulses, and is now realigning itself. The away team resumes its search for Torres and Kim. |
57 |
|
On the Run
Kes reports that Torres and Kim have been missing for four hours, and surmises that they may be trying to escape through one of the ancient tunnels. Janeway assigns Paris, Neelix and Kes to look for them. Suddenly the city shakes; Rollins reports that the Array is firing on the surface, apparentiy attempting to seal off all possible passages between the surface and the Ocampa city. |
58 |
|
Rescue Party
Paris, Neelix and Kes find Torres and Kim stranded in one of the tunnels. They can't beam out, because the Array's bombardment is interfering with the transporter. They will have to reach the planet surface. Not wanting to be trapped either, Janeway, Chakotay and Tuvok head for the same tunnel to find an escape route. |
59 |
|
Underground Trap
Reaching one of the force field barriers, Kes shows the others how to slide past a thin breach. She warns them not to touch it, as they will suffer burns. Paris, Neelix and Kes help the sickly Torres and Kim to the surface. Somewhere below, Janeway, Tuvok and Chakotay are trapped when the bombardment causes a cave-in. Paris and Neelix return below while the other three beam up. |
60 |
|
Ironic Rescue
Paris and Neelix reach the trapped three. Neelix helps Janeway take the injured Tuvok to the surface. Chakotay has a broken leg. He tells Paris to leave him behind, but Paris refuses. Paris heaves Chakotay across his back and starts carrying him. "If I save your butt, your life belongs to me," Paris chides. "Isn't that some kind of Indian custom?" "Wrong tribe' " Chakotay answers. |
61 |
|
Red Alert
The away team returns to the U.S.S. Voyager with the rescued Kim and Torres. All injuries are treated in Sickbay. The bridge reports that two Kazon ships are moving towards the Array. The Maquis return to their ship and the two vessels respond together to protect the Array, their only way home to the Alpha Quadrant. Janeway orders the ship to Red Alert. |
62 |
|
Kazon Encounter
The U.S.S. Voyager and the Maquis reach the Array at the same time as the two Kazon ships. The Kazon leader Jabin asks Janeway if they've come to investigate the Array's "strange behavior." Janeway explains that they just want to beam aboard and figure out a way home, but Jabin won't allow that because of the Federation's superior technology. Jabin severs the connection. |
63 |
|
Crossfire
Although much smaller than the U.S.S. Voyager, the two Kazon ships open fire. The shields profect the starship, which returns fire. It's evident that the Kazon are no immediate threat to the U.S.S. Voyager, so Janeway decides that she can risk leaving her starship to contact the Caretaker. The Array is their only way home. |
64 |
|
Tandem Strategy
Janeway contacts Chakotay and requests that the Maquis hold off the Kazon while she beams over to the Array to reach the Caretaker. Showing that she now has faith in both his piloting skills and his loyalty, Janeway assigns Tom Paris to the CON position. Janeway takes Tuvok with her and they transport to the Array. |
65 |
|
Unpaid Debts
Janeway and Tuvok transport to the Array and find themselves back in the barn. The banjo player plucks woefully at his instrument. He is, in fact, the Caretaker. He tells her that his people long ago accidentally damaged the Ocampan ecosphere, and that his eternal debt is to care for the people who live there. But he's dying, and must find a way to keep them protected from the Kazon after he's gone. |
66 |
|
A Greater Challenge
While Janeway convinces the Caretaker that the Ocampa will learn to fend for themselves, a much larger and more powerful Kazon warship arrives. The U.S.S. Voyager is no match for this vessel. "The Kazon just got some backup," Kim reports. An attack from the warship damages the U.S.S. Voyager's weapons array. The Maquis watch the battle and realize that the Federation ship can't survive. |
67 |
|
Great Sacrifice
Chakotay concludes that the only way to save the U.S.S. Voyager is to plot a collision course and take out the massive Kazon warship. Because the Maquis craft's guidance system has been damaged, he will pilot the ship manually. He orders the rest of his crew to transport to the U.S.S. Voyager. Chakotay will beam over an instant before collision. |
68 |
|
Collision Course
Chakotay plots a collision course with the Kazon warship. He instructs Paris to have the transporter operator stand by to beam him over. Don't think for a second that this makes us even," Paris cracks. The Maquis craft barrels straight into incoming fire, An instant before collision, Chakotay beams out. The Kazon warship is mortally wounded. |
69 |
|
Natural State
The Caretaker tells Janeway that she must destroy the Array. If it were to fall into Kazon hands, they would use it to annihilate the Ocampa. The Caretaker reverts to his natural state, then shrivels and dies. Tuvok asks if he should activate the program to return them home. But Janeway knows that if they fail to destroy the Array, the Ocampa will die. |
70 |
|
The Greater Good
Janeway and Tuvok return to the U.S.S. Voyager. She knows what she must do, even if it means that her crew will be stranded 70,000 light years from home. Janeway orders the Array destroyed — an order Torres challenges. but Chakotay warns her that Janeway is the captain and will be obeyed. The starship fires and the Array is obliterated. The Kazon declare that Janeway has made an enemy. |
71 |
|
New Assignments
Far from home and her loved ones, Captain Janeway faces a formidable task. She feels the burden of her decision, her sacrifice. The only solution is to integrate the Maquis into her crew. Chakotay will be first officer, and Torres is assigned to Engineering. Tom Paris is given a field commission of lieutenant and assigned to COM. Neelix and Kes will accompany them on their great voyage. |
72 |
|
Where No One Has Gone Before
As the U.S.S. Voyager prepares to leave the Ocampan system, Captain Janeway addresses the newly integrated crew. "We're alone in an uncharted part of the galaxy," she acknouledges. But in true Starfleet tradition, "We'll continue to follow our directive to seek out new worlds and explore space." With hope lingering in her voice, Janeway orders, "Mr. Paris, set a course — for home." |

Neelix and Kes
Ethan Phillips ["Neelix"] waves for the camera while Jennifer Lien ["Kes"] prepares for a scene on the bridge set. Taped "marks" on the floor will be placed to help the actors stay within the shot and their light. In the background, Tim Russ ["Tuvok"] and Roxanne Biggs-Dawson ["B'Elanna Torres"] share a light moment. |
83 |
|
The Two in Command
Director Winrich Kolbe explains to Kate Mulgrew ["Captain Kathryn Janeway"] his vision of how a scene will be filmed. A veteran of both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Kolbe directed Star Trek: The Next Generation's final episode, "All Good Things…" His first Star Trek was Star Trek: The Next Generation's second season episode. "Where Silence Has Lease." |
84 |
|
Lunch Break
Director Winrich Kolbe discusses an upcoming scene with Garrett Wang ['"Harry Kim"] and Roxanne Biggs-Dawson ["B'Elanna Torres"]. In this scene, Kim and Torres learn more about the Caretaker's relationship to the Ocampa. This sequence was filmed on location, inside the Los Angeles Convention Center. |
85 |
|
A Desert Rehearsal
Out on location in the Southern California desert, the Star Trek: Voyager film crew watch as a scene is rehearsed where Kim and Torres are rescued from the Ocampa city. After the rehearsal, the crew will place lights, reflectors and the camera while the actors get make-up, hair and wardrobe touch-ups, as well as study their lines. |
86 |
|
Standing By
While the regular cast are elsewhere preparing their lines or in makeup, crew members called "stand-ins" will position themselves where the cast will later be, so the director and the camera crew can plan how to shoot the scene. Note Director Winrich Kolbe at the far left watching a video monitor that shows the image being shot by the camera. |
87 |
|
Planet of Ocampas
Director Winrich Kolbe confers with Jennifer Lien ["Kes"] about an upcoming scene in which her character will be reunited with her friends, the Ocampa. Note the false rock wall in the background. Ethan Phillips ["Neelix"] will also be in the scene, and is standing at the far right. |
88 |
|
High Overhead
A huge "luma crane" has been brought on location for a long -distance shot. After post production and the addition of visual effects, this will be the scene where the U.S.S. Voyager away team beams down and discovers the ruins of the ancient Ocampan civilization. Note the chairs set aside for cast and crew members. |

On Your Mark…
Robert Beltran ["Chakotay"] stands on the bridge at a position marked with tape, in preparation for filming a scene. When an actor moves to a taped position, it is said that he "hits his mark." Jennifer Lien ["Kes"] can also be seen at the far left, looking down at her mark. Background actors, or "extras" can be seen at the science consoles also "on their marks." |

The "Ocampan" Desert
Although on your TV screen you saw Paris, Kim and Kes crawl out of a hole in the Ocampan desert, they actually climbed out of a hole in the California desert, which Voyager crew members created. In this piclure, the actors perform a rehearsal for the scene while several crew members evaluate their role in recording the action. Note Director at right, viewing the shot through a lens. |

Warp Engines
The U.S.S. Voyager features a new and innovative advance in Federation starship design. It has a sustainable cruise velocity of Warp 9.975. Particularly nolable is its variable-geometry warp nacelle pylons. This adjustable configuration decreases the deteriorating effects of Warp engines on subspace, as well as optimizing the efficiency of the warp field. |

|
Desktop Display Terminal
Commonly available throughout the U.S.S. Voyager are desktop terminals, which act as both a computer interface and a communications device. The Terminal is linked to a starship's Library Computer Access and Retrieval System [LCARS] software, through the Optical Data Network [ODN]. It can also be used for two-way visual and audio communications, such as subspace messages. Another use is the recording and playback of records and log entries. |

Medical Hologram
The Emergency Medical Holographic Program was designed as a supplement to the medical team in emergency situations. After the death of the Chief Medical officer on the U.S.S. Voyager." this supplement became the only medical doctor on board. The doctor has been programmed with information from 2,000 medical reference sources and the experiences of 47 individual medical officers. Intended for use in emergencies only, the doctor was not given a name by his designers. |

Control/Display Panels
The control/display panels found on the bridge of the U.S.S. Vouager are similar to those found on many vessels in Starfleet. The surface is composed of three layers. The outermost layer is made from a tripolymer-coated transparent aluminum wafer, which has a tactile sensor matrix imbedded into it. The panels can be reconfigured to suit a specific task or a user's preference. |

|
Matter/Anti-Matter Reactor
The warp propulsion system of the U.S.S. Voyager is powered by the energy produced in the Matter/Anti- Matter Reaction Assembly [M/ARR], commonly known as the warp engine core. Within this assembly, supercold deuterium and antihydrogen are injected into dilithium crystal which regulates and controls the reaction. The standard pressure within the Starship Voyager's warp core is 2,500 kilopascals. |

|
Navigational Deflector
The navigational deflector protects the U.S.S. Voyager from collision with objects ranging from microparticles to asteroids. The emitter array transmits a tractor/deflector beam that sweeps thousands of kilometers ahead of the ship, pushing aside hazards. The array also contains long-range sensors, which detect and track objects in the ship's flight path. The sensors are also of scientific use. |
