Struggling with the revelation of his fate a decade into the future, Captain Christopher Pike has hidden himself in a remote cabin in snow-covered mountains. Starfleet Command attempts to reach him via his communicator, which Pike ignores. Admiral Robert April, Pike's former commanding officer, eventually tracks him down and convinces Pike to return to duty as Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. His first mission is to locate and retrieve First Officer Una Chin-Riley, who has gone missing. |

On the planet Vulcan, Spock and T'Pring share some intimate and long-awaited time together. T'Pring proposes marriage, which Spock accepts. That evening, as the couple celebrates their engagement, Spock receives a communique from Captain Pike, requesting that he return to duty prematurely to assist in the search for Number One. Spock complies. He and Pike return to the Enterprise, where they meet acting First Officer La'an Noonien-Singh and Cadet Nyota Uhura. Lt. Erica Ortegas soon takes the ship to Warp. |
3 |
While the Enterprise warps its way to unknown space in search of Number One, Pike sequesters himself in his in his quarters, reflecting on the devastating vision of his future. Spock soon joins Pike in his quarters where he reveals his fears of an untimely death and the visions that haunt him. Spock advises him to focus on his duties as Captain. Suddenly, Pike and Spock are called to the bridge as Number One's abandoned ship is located orbiting a nearby planet. Sensors reveal surprising readings of a warp signature from a pre-warp civilization on the planet. |
4 |
Spock briefs the crew on the newly discovered warp signature from the planet. The signature eminates from a warp bomb, a devastating weapon to be used in an apparent global war. Dr. Joseph M'Benga and Nurse Christine Chapel tempoararily adjust Pike, Spock and Noonien-Singh's genetic codes to disguise them as indigenous to the planet. The trio beams down to the planet's capital city, where they are forced to subdue and sedate a pair of scientists who are then transported to the Enterprise. |
5 |
As Pike, Noonien-Singh and Spock attempt to sneak into the lab housing the warp bomb, Spock's genetic alterations begin to break down. Lt. Kyle beams a booster to Spock in time to prevent complete reversal which would have revealed his true Vulcan appearance. In the lab, the crew finds Number One in a golding cell. As they free her from captivity, Spock's disguise fails, exposing the away team to the planetary natives. The rest of the away team escapes back to Enterprise, while Pike and Spock remain on the planet. |
6 |
Held prisoner by a government leader, Pike orders the Enterprise to descend into low orbit, in order to reveal the ship to the captors. The ship's appearance causes the warring factions to open negotiations for the first time in a century. Pike addresses the governmental leaders, inviting them to seek peace and to join the United Federation of Planets. Later, Pike accepts April's invitation to return to command aboard the Enterprise on a permanent basis. After greeting new science officer Lt. Sam Kirk, the brother James T. Kirk, Pike sets out to explre strange new worlds. |
7 |
As the Enterprise studies a unique comet, the crew gathers in Pike's quarters for dinner. There, Uhura meets the Enterprise's new Chief Engineer, Lt. Hemmer. Pike regales the crew with tunny stories, while Uhura hums a Kenyan folk song. She explains her background, but more significantiy, Uhura reveals her feelings since the deaths of her parents and brother. She adds that she's searching for meaning in her life, and hopes to find it within Starfleet. |
8 |
Spock and Uhura discuss her uncertainty about her role within Starfleet. Spock recommends Uhura consider stepping aside for another cadet who may be more committed. Meanwhile, Pike and Number One discuss Pike's obsession with his visions of his future death. Suddenly, Spock interrupts them when sensors reveal the comet will soon crash into a nearby planet. Their efforts to redirect the comet fail when it protects itself with shields. Pike dispatches an away team to investigate the comet, including Spock, Kirk, Noonien-Singh and Uhura. |
9 |
Spock, Noonien-Singh, Kirk and Uhura discover a chamber hidden inside the comet. There, they find a massive egg-like object covered in markings. Uhura tries to decipher them, but Kirk gets hit with a blast of energy from the egg. The comet then raises its shields, preventing the away team from returning to the Enterprise and cutting off communications. Spock tells Uhura that deciphering the markings on the object must be the top priority. |
10 |
The Enterprise tries hitting the comet with phasers, but their efforts are stopped by a massive, powerful ship commanded by a group of aliens who call themsevels "The Shepherds." The aliens protect the comet, which they believe is a galactic "arbiter." The Shepherds threaten the Enterprise if it interferes with the comet, including rescuing the away team. Meanwhile, inside the comet, Uhura deciphers the egg's markings as a musical scale, and she and Spock sing the notes, which sends a message to the comet to drop its shields. |
11 |
Angered by the away team's actions on the comet, the Shepherds attack the Enterprise. The Enterprise returns fire, buying the crew time to set up a plan to divert the comet away from the planet that sits in its path. Ortegas flies the ship in front of the comet, causing the Shepherds to hold fire. Pike then creates a ruse, pretending to surrender to the Shepherds. Meanwhile, Spock flies a shuttlecraft near the comet melting it's outer icy exterior to alter the comet's course away from the planet. |
12 |
The change in the comet's course results in a permanent alteration of the planets atmosphere, providing rain that causes plant life to grow on the planet for the first time. Uhura reveals to the crew that the musical message she heard on the comet painted a picture that seemed to demonstrate the comet had foreknowledge of the Enterprise's plan to alter its course. Spock commends and encourages her to remain in Starfleet. Elsewhere, Pike considers the possibility that he can change his fate and the future cadets he is expected to save. |
13 |
The Enterprise investigates an abandoned colony once belonging to the genetically augmented Illyrians. As an ion storm approaches, Number One rounds up most members of the away team, while Pike retrieves Spock, who was studying journals left behind by the Illyrians. Meanwhile, the storm grows more powerful and disrupts the ship's transporter, leaving Pike and Spock stranded on the planet and needing to seek shelter. |
14 |
Upon returning to the Enterprise from the Illyrian colony, several members of the away team are drawn to light, even hurting themselves to get as close as possible to light sources. M'Benga discovers the away team's Vitamin D levels are abnormally low - except for that of Number One. Though she initially exhibits the same symptoms as the others, she soon dismisses the desie for light. She works with Hemmer and M'Benga to search out the source of the away team's unnatural need for light. |
15 |
When Enterprise crew members who were not part of the away team start exhibiting symptoms of the addiction to light, Number One orders the ship into lockdown to prevent additional exposure to the contagion. M'Benga treats an ever-growing number of patients but oddly refuses to allow Hemmer from examining the emergency medical transporter. Meanwhile, in the Illyrian library on the planet, Spock discovers that the former colonists were attempting to reverse their genetic modifications. He and Pike soon encounter violent creatures trying to enter the library. |
16 |
Number One discovers that the contagion causing the crew to be addicted to light, travels in beams of light. She orders all lights on the ship turned off, while she continues to search for a cure. Meanwhile, back on the planet, Spock continues his studies in the library, when suddenly the creatures from the ion storm burst in. But instead of attacking Pike and Spock, the mysterious creatures protect them from the storm. |
17 |
In Sickbay, Number One reveals that she is actually an Illyrian and immune to the light contagion. Disappointed her blood can't help synthesize a cure, she races to Engineering to stop Noonien-Singh from turning off the warp core containment field to absorb the engine's light. On the planet, Spock discovers the missing colonists also suffered from the contagion, which eventually turned them into the creatures that had protected Pike and Spock from the ion storm. |
18 |
The radiation exposure in Engineering allows a cure for the contagion to be synthesized, thus saving the crew. Number One attempts to resign her commission for lying about her true background as an Illyrian, which violated Starfleet protocols. Pike refuses the resignation, promising to defend her if Starfleet finds out. Later, Number One learns that the transporter simply failed to detect and filter out the contagion. Meanwhile, M'Benga explains he's storing his young daughter's life patterns inside the medical transporter while searchin for a cure fr her terminal disease. |

On Starfleet Remembrance Day, the Enterprise crew attempts to deliver an atmospheric processor to a colony on Finibus III. Upon their arrival, however, they discover the colony has been destroyed by unknown attackers. The crew brings a small group of survivors aboard and learn from a child that the colony was attacked by what she calls monsters making a unique clicking sound. Noonien-Singh recognizes the sound and orders shields raised. She knows who attacked the colony - the Gorn. |
20 |
The Gorn attack! Hemmer and Uhura work feverishlv to repair the atmospheric processor in the cargo bay as Noonien-Singh races to the Bridge, calling for a retreat. Pike orders the ship to move into a brown dwarf star orbiting a black hole. The Enterprise has suffered serious damage and casualties from the latest Gorn attack. With power failing and the ship's systems offline, the crew works to treat the injured, make repairs and prepare for the next battle. |
21 |
Noonien-Singh relays her experiences as a Gorn survivor, warning the crew that their hunters are relentless. Meanwhile, in the cargo bay, Hemmer, iniured in the last Gorn attack, talks Uhura through repairing the atmospheric processor. Elsewhere, Spock adjusts the Enterprise's navigational systems so that they can track the Gorn ship. While still hidden by the brown dwarf, the Enterprise manually drops a photon torpedo on the Gorn ship, and the alien vessel is destroyed. |
22 |
While M'Benga and Chapel treat Number One's injuries, a wounded Hemmer continues guiding Uhura through the atmospheric processor repairs. Suddenly, three additional Gorn vessels appear, causing the Enterprise to descend further into the brown dwarf. The dangerous maneuver causes the lower decks to collapse, and another problem arises. Pike soon learns that the brown dwarf, and everything within it, is being sucked into the nearby black hole. |
23 |
Spock and Noonien-Singh take a shuttle out of the brown dwarf star to locate the remaining Gorn ships. Spock mind melds with Noonien-Singh to help her work through her traumatic memories of losing her brother and friends on the S.S. Puget Sound as a result of a Gorn attack. The mind meld causes Noonien-Singh to remember a Gorn code. She sends a message to one Gorn ship that humans have overtaken another Gorn ship, causing them to destroy the supposedly captured vessel. |
24 |
Pike develops a plan the [sic] use the black hole's gravitational well as a slingshot out of the brown dwarf. The Gorn chase the Enterprise as the ship approaches the outer rim of the black hole. There they drop the atmospheric processor, causing it to explode in the black hole. The Gorn, believing the ship destroyed, veer off as the Enterprise escapes. Following the battle, La'an commemorates Starfleet Rememberance Day and honors those who fell in the Gorn attack by wearng the pin of her family's colony ship. |
25 |
After having a nightmare in which his human and Vulcan halves battle one another, Spock welcomes his fiancee T'Pring aboard the Enterprise. T'Pring expresses her appreciation for the accommodation provided to her assistant in their professional obligations rehabilitating passionate Vulcans and guiding them on the path of logic. Later, Spock joins Pike and Uhura in a breifeing prior to sensitive diplomatic negotiations with the reclusive R'ongovian Protectorate. The R'ongovian delegates interrupt the briefing with their early arrival. |
26 |
While the Enterprise undergoes repairs following the battle with the Gorn, most of the crew enjoy shore leave, including Ortegas, Chapel and M'Benga. While beaming down, M'Benga accidentally reveals Number One has a nickname, "Where fun goes to die," thanks to her strict nature and refusal to take shore leave herself. Meanwhile, Spock apologizes to T'Pring for taking time away from her to deal with the R'ongovians. T'Pring begins to show her impatience with Spock. |
27 |
Chapel escapes an awkward conversation with a suitor and then offers relationship advice to Spock. She encourages him to break the habit of prioritizing duty over spending time with T'Pring. Meanwhile, Number One and Noonien-Singh discover a security breach when a pair of ensigns attempt a spacewalk. Later, Spock and T'Pring undergo a Vulcan ritual to hear one another's inner most thoughts in [an] attempt to strengthen their relationship. However, the ritual goes awry and causes them to switch bodies. |
28 |
Their bodies swapped, Spock and TPring agree to pose as one another to fulfill their respective duties. They reveal their situation to Pike as the R'ongovian negotiators will only meet with Spock and a Vulcan criminal named Barjan Tor will only talk to T'Pring. Meanwhile, Number One and Noonien-Singh interrogate the ensigns who breached the airlock and discover the stunt was part of a game called Enterprise bingo. Intrigued, and wanting to be perceived as more fun by the crew, they play the game, too. |
29 |
T'Pring-as-Spock and Spock-as-T'Pring struggle to carry out their roles. TPring-as-Spock negotiates with the R'ongovians, while Pike tries to keep the discussions on a positive track. The R'ongovians are impressed by Pike's words and depart to reconsider their position in the negotiations. Meanwhile, Chapel joins Spock-as-T'Pring in the discussions with the Vulcan criminal Barjan. Though, initially open to rehabilitation, Barjan declines, and Spock-as-T'Pring responds with a punch. |
30 |
M'Benga and Chapel find a medical solution that switches Spock and T'Pring back into their own bodies. Spock expresses his thoughts about Vulcan and humanity to TPring, and the Vulcan couple soon reaffirms their commitment to each other. Meanwhile, Pike recognizes the R'ongovians' "radical empathy" is a negotiation tool where they take on traits of other negotiators. He uses that to subtly convince them to join the Federation. Elsewhere, Number One and Noonien-Singh complete Enterprise bingo, while Chapel reflects on relationships with Ortegas. |
31 |
While on course to the Majalan system, the Enterprise receives a distress call from a Majalan shuttle under attack from an unknown adversary. They arrive to defend the shuttle, and rescue its survivors: Alora, who Pike once saved from another shuttle accident; a man known as Elder Gamal; and a young boy called "The First Servant." Alora explains that The First Servant was chosen by the Majalan people to embody their people's credo of "science, service, sacrifice." |
32 |
Alora reveals her shuttle was attacked by aliens who wanted to prevent The First Servant from ascending to the Majalan throne. In sickbay, The First Servant undergoes medical tests showing his quantum bio implants are functioning normally, helping to heal his injuries from the attack on the shuttle. Noonien-Singh, Uhura, Spock and Alora investigate the crash site from the ship that attacked her shuttle. Alora finds an Oath Coin, the highest military honor of her people, and realizes one of her guards has joined forces with an enemy colony. |
33 |
Pike joins Alora on Majalis to help her find the traitorous guard. She orders her guards to show her their Oath Coins, finding one that had been damaged. That guard tries to escape, but Pike subdues him. Meanwhile, Spock shows Elder Gamal a device he found on the crashed ship, believing it was to be used on The First Servant. The First Servant talks about science with Spock. In the mess hall, Noonien-Singh asks Uhura to translate items she took from the crash site. |
34 |
M'Benga asks Elder Gamal if Majalan technology would cure his daughter's terminal disease. Elder Gamal says it would, but Majalan customs prevent them from doing so. On the planet, Pike and Alora share an intimate moment. Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, Uhura translates the language on the objects from the crash site. Noonien-Singh instructs her to share her findings with Pike. Later, in Sickbay, The First Servant frees M'Benga's daughter Rukiya from the medical transporter for a brief game of hopscotch, before departing with Elder Gramal. |
35 |
Uhura reveals to Pike that the enemy colony is an offshoot of Majalas. The First Servant is then apparently transported by these hostile enemies to their ship, which the Enterprise inadvertentiy destrovs. When it appears that The First Servant is dead, Alora warns that his death will cause the death of her people. However, the Elder Gamal has covertly tricked everyone, including his enemies, by sending a shadow signal of The First Servant's life form to the other ship. Spock soon discovers The First Servant alive and well aboard the Enterprise. |
36 |
The First Servant insists on completing his ascension on Majalis. Pike accompanies Alora at the ceremony, where he asks her a series of questions to learn why The First Servant held the fate of his planet in his hands. Number One confronts Elder Gamal, learns the truth of the ascension, and tries to warn Pike. However, the Majalans block communications from the planet. In the ascension, Pike learns The First Servant is meant to be sacrificed. Pike unsuccessfully tries to stop the ritual and leaves Majalis, haunted by what he's seen. |
37 |
While fulfilling her responsibilities at a Vulcan rehabilitation center, T'Pring studies human intimacy in order to "spice things up" in her relationship with Spock. Spock seeks advice from Chapel, who encourages him to be honest with her. Meanwhile, the Enterprise crew welcomes Dr. Aspen on board to help a group of injured passengers of a ship that crashed in a remote sector. The Enterprise encounters an Orion pirate vessel that presumably caused the crash and took its passengers as property to be sold. |
38 |
Spock retrieves Aspen from their quarters, where they are blasting dance music. They reveal they used to club hop in their Academy days. Pike explains they've received a distress signal from the pirate ship. Spock and Aspen express concern that it's a trap. Wary of that, Pike presses on, citing regulations to investigate all distress signals. The Enterprise is then encased in an electromagnetic energy net. Aspen encourages Spock to rely on his human instinct to locate the source of the net. He identifies an asteroid, which the Enterprise fires upon, freeing the ship. |
39 |
Dr. Aspen approaches Spock in his quarters, offering him advice about looking beyond his binary nature. Later, Pike leads an awav team to another damaged colony ship. A group of pirates led by Captain Remy, captures Pike and his team, revealing the colony ship is actually the dreaded pirate ship the Serene Squall. Meanwhile, another group of pirates beams aboard the Enterprise. Aspen is injured while protecting Spock from a phaser blast. As they try to get to Sickbay, they learn the Bridge crew has also been captured. |
40 |
Having avoided capture, Chapel subdues a pair of pirates with a hypospray. On the Serene Squall, Pike convinces Remy to let him cook a meal for the pirates. Remy demands the Enterprise's command codes so his pirates can fully take over the ship. Pike resists, advising Remy not to antagonize Starfleet further. Remy then considers selling Pike and the Enterprise crew to the Klingons. Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, Spock treats Aspen's injuries. They warn Spock against fighting the pirates, believing it's a lost cause. |
41 |
Spock and Chapel unlock the command codes from Engineering, allowing Aspen, who reveals their real identity as Captain Angel of the Serene Squall, to take over the Enterprise. Captain Angel contacts T'Pring and attempts to trade Spock for one of T'Pring's prisoners, Xaverius. On the Serene Squall Pike and the Enterprise crew implement a plan to cause a mutiny against Remy. Meanwhile, aboard the Enterprise, T'Pring prepares to make [a] prisoner swap, but Spock and Chapel pretend they are in love to discourage T'Pring from completing the exchange. T'Pring breaks off their engagement. |
42 |
With the mutiny on the Serene Squall successful, Pike and the Enterprise crew eventually regain control of their ship. Captain Angel escapes in a shuttle, leaving the Serene Squall crew to answer for their crimes. Pike explains that Starfleet has taken the pirates into custody, while Spock and T'Pring renew their engagement. Later, Spock thanks Chapel for her help with his ruse. He reveals to her that he knows the Vulcan Xaverius is actually his half-brother, Sybok. |
43 |
While desperately trying to find a cure for his daughter Rukiya's disease, M'Benga stores her pattern in the transporter's buffer, occasionally beaming her into Sickbay to read her a story entitled "The Kingdom Of Elysian." As he reads the story to her again, she wishes the ending could change. Meanwhile, on the Bridge, the crew discovers they are trapped near a nebula, unable to move, and Ortegas suffers injuries while piloting the ship. When M'Benga arrives on the Bridge to assist, he finds the crew, and himself, dressed as characters from the Elysian Kingdom. |
44 |
M'Benga tries to figure out how the crew came to believe they are characters from his daughter's book. Pike is Sir Amand Rauth, Ortegas is Sir Adya, Chapel is Lady Audrey, Noonien-Sigh is Princess Talia, and M'Benga is King Ridley. In sickbay, M'Benga uses a tricorder to find any medical answers, and he's disappointed that all of his readings are normal, though the other crew members' dopamine levels are high. Noonien-Singh/Talia asks M'Benga/King Ridley to use the Mercury Stone to fight Queen Neve, who has taken over her kingdom. |
45 |
Hemmer, dressed as the Wizard Caster, is captured by Queen Neve's Crimson Guard. Unlike the other crew members, he is aware of the changes to the crew. M'Benga/King Ridley reveals he doesn't have the Mercury Stone and asks Ortegas /Adya and Pike /Rauth to take him to Queen Neve. They encounter Spock who has been turned into Wizard Pollux, Hemmer/Caster's brother. M'Benga/King Ridley convinces Spock/Pollux to take him to Queen Neve. M'Benga/Ridley is shocked to learn Queen Neve is Uhura. Uhura/Neve sends the group to the dungeon for refusing to give her the Mercury Stone. |
46 |
In the dungeon, Hemmer/Caster reveals he sensed an unpleasant entity in the nebula that he believes pulled the story from M'Benga's mind. Hemmer/Caster uses his "magic" engineering tool to help them escape. Uhura/Neve orders Spock/Pollux to find the prisoners. Spock/Pollux leads the Crimson Guard to the escaped prisoners. Ortegas/Adya takes up a sword protecting the King. Just as the Crimson Guard moves to recapture the group, Number One appears as Zymira the Huntress, saving them. In Engineering, Hemmer/Caster determines the entity in the nebula is a Boltzmann brain, a spontaneously created life form. |
47 |
M'Benga realizes the nebula entity pulled the story from his daughter Rukiya's mind, not from his own. He races to the medical transporter and sees Rukiya has beamed to somewhere else on the ship. Spock/Pollux overhears M'Benga, and reveals them to Uhura/Neve. She believes Rukiya is the Mercury Stone. Uhura/Neve asks for captured Pike/Rauth's loyalty, sending him to find Rukiya. Meanwhile, MBenga realizes Rukiya is in his quarters, where Pike/Rauth takes him captive. Uhura/Neve confronts M'Benga/Ridley, demanding the Mercury Stone. |
48 |
M'Benga finds Rukiya in his quarters, free of her illness. Hemmer volunteers to act as the entity's voice. M'Benga asks the entity to end the story and leave. The entity explains that it created the story to help Rukiya not feel lonely. The entity explains that if it leaves, Rukiya's illness will return. However, if Rukiya joins her consciousness with the entity, she will become immortal. Rukiya, now an adult, returns to the ship, comforting a heartbroken M'Benga. she soon leaves, returning the ship and rest of the crew back to normal, with no memory of the events. |
49 |
In what is expected to be her final day aboard the Enterprise, Uhura reflects on her experiences, still unsure about her future in Starfleet. Pike reminds her she'll alwavs have a home on the ship. Their conversation is interrupted by a Priority One message from Starfleet Command, ordering them to delay an important mission to Station K-7 and investigate a crashed starship. Pike decides to split the crew into two missions, one on the Enterprise for the delivery to K-7, and one aboard a shuttlecraft for the investigation. |
50 |
The landing party finds the crashed Peregrine, detecting no life signs and finding a massive amount of blood in the corridors. Noonien-Singh reports most of the crew are dead, their bodies mutilated. Outside the Pererine, Sam Kirk and Chapel discover more mutilated bodies. Pike, Spock, Uhura and Noonien-Singh listen to a Captain's Log reporting the crew was killed by the Gorn. Uhura locates a pair of life signs on the Peregrine - one human, and one unknown. As they investigate, they encounter a member of a species they've never seen before who takes them to a scared human girl. |
51 |
As the endeavor to repair the Peregrine, Hemmer and Uhura discuss her future in Starfleet. Hemmer tells her that she has a special skill in forming bonds, and that she should consider remaining in Starfleet. Meanwhile, while M'Benga treats the girl, named Oriana, Noonien-Singh demands to know if they're free of Gorn eggs. She briefs Pike, warning him that the alien and Oriana are likely Gorn breeding refugees. Chapel examines the alien, who is struggling to breathe. Moments later, Gorn hatchlings burst from his body, attacking one another before scattering throughout the ship. |
52 |
Deep in the bowels of the Peregrine, Spock, Pike and M'Benga treat Lt. Duke's plasma burns, received while making repairs to the ship. Just as he heals, he is attacked by a Gorn. In sickbay, Chapel searches for Oriana. Noonien-Singh gives Chapel a phaser rifle, telling her to watch the ceilings and shoot anything that moves while they continue to look for Oriana. They find her in a cargo hold, the coldest spot in the ship. Noonien-Singh remembers her brother's death at the hands of the Gorn, using that memory to gain Oriana's trust and to comfort her. |
53 |
Hemmer and Uhura restore power to the Peregrine as Pike orders the away team to gather in Sickbay. Uhura and Hemmer prepare to leave Engineering, when a Gorn attacks, spraying Hemmer with venom. Once in Sickbay, Hemmer states that Navigation is the only repair left. Noonien-Singh proposes drawing the Gorn into the coldest parts of the ship, where they are more easily killed. Uhura lures a Gorn into the transporter room where it is frozen to death. Elsewhere, Spock channels his human rage into fighting a Gorn when another attacks. The two Gorn battle until only one remains, which Noonien-Singh kills. |
54 |
Noonien-Singh confirms the Gorn are dead, but then she sees Hemmer suffering from the Gorn venom. which has fatally infected his body. Understanding his imminent fate, Hemmer says goodbye, telling Uhura to open herself up. He walks into the cold where the Gorn hatch from inside his body. Later, as the Enterprise tows the Peregrine, the crew mourns its lost colleagues, particularly Hemmer. Uhura memorializes Hemmer, while Spock unleashes his rage and grief in the corridor, where he finds comfort with Chapel. Noonien-Singh takes leave to help Oriana find her family as Uhura takes a long look at her now-former communications station. |
55 |
On the edge of the Romulan Neutral Zone, the Enterprise assists in retrofitting the Neutral Zone's outposts. Pike meets one of the children he's seen in his fateful vision of his future, and it unsettles him. He returns to his quarters, hoping to write a message to the boy. An older version of himself from the future, who never experienced the accident appears in his quarters with a warning: the letter he was writing changes the future. Future-Pike presents Pike with a time crystal that sends him to a moment in the future to learn how he changes the timeline. |
56 |
Seven years into his alternate future, Pike finds himself in command of the Enterprise when Outpost 4 is attacked by unknown assailants. Spock mind melds with Pike, learning of Pike's original vision of the future and the accident that hasn't happened, as well as confirming that he has traveled from the past. Believing that he has to live through this point in universe changing time, Pike returns to the Bridge as the attacks continue, destroying Outpost 4. The U.S.S. Farragut, commanded by James T. Kirk, arrives to assist in defeating the attacking vessel. |
57 |
Pike meets with Sam Kirk to better understand his brother Jim. Sam describes his brother as a wild card but as a fine Captain. Uhura discovers a way to track the Romulan vessel and to gain a view from inside the ship. They quickly realize that the Romulans look like Vulcans. Pike calls a conference which includes Captain Kirk. The crew is divided on the proper course of action, though most believe attack is the best approach. The Enterprise and Farragut execute a plan to disable the Romulan ship. Romulans instead attack the Farragut, destroying the ship as the Enterprise rescues the Farragut's survivors. |
58 |
Pike offers the Romulans a temporary cease fire. The Romulan Commander responds by claiming in his culture negotiation is a sign of weakness, but accepts the offer of a two-hour cease fire. Ortegas protests the cease fire, but Pike remains steadfast. Meanwhile, the Romulan Commander argues with his Sub-Commander about the wisdom of the cease fire, reminding him of the losses the Romulans have endured in the war with the Federation. Elsewhere, Captain Kirk proposes a plan to defeat the Romulans. |
59 |
As the cease fire draws to a close, Captain Kirk takes a shuttlecraft to implement his plan. Pike continues negotiations with the Romulan Commander, but soon dozens of additional Romulan ships appear. The Romulan Sub-Commander disobeyed orders by calling the fleet. The Romulan Praetor orders the Enterprise's surrender just as Kirk arrives with a fleet of robotic mining ships, which appear highly threatening to the unsuspecting Romulans. The Praetor responds to the show of force by destroving the original Romulan vessel and its crew. The Praetor renews her call for surrender. When Pike refuses, she attacks. |
60 |
Jim Kirk's gambit with the mining ships fails, and the Romulans declare war. They attack the Enterprise, gravely injuring Spock. Pike again speaks with the future versior of himself. Future-Pike reveals the war with the Romulans costs billions of lives, including Spock's. Future-Pike soon disappears. A short time later, returned to his own timeline,
Pike greets Captain Bartel in the Transporter Room. She has come to arrest Number One for hiding her Augment origins from Starfleet. |

Standing in front of a Jefferies tube in one of the many corridors aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise set, director Sydney Freeland talked with Ethan Peck (Spock) and Jesse James Keitel (Angel). |
BTS8 |
The Elysian Kingdom
Jess Bush (Lady Audrey) and Ethan Peck (Wizard Pollux) took direction from Amanda Row amongst the vines and flowers that adorned the ship corridors in this episode. |
BTS9 |
All Those Who Wander
The production crew worked to make final touches to the set to help create the icy world of Valeo Beta V. The crashed U.S.S. Peregrine could be seen in the background displayed on 270-degree, 70'×30' horseshoe-shaped LED screens. |
BTS10 |
A Quality of Mercy
Ethan Peck (Spock) and Dan Jeannotte (Sam Kirk) took note of the changes to their uniforms to reflect the time jump of seven years into the future. Spock's uniform sported two thick gold stripes on the tunic's sleeves indicating his change in rank. |

Once upon a time, in a far-off land, was the beautiful Kingdom of Elysian. Within its borders ruled three monarchs. To the south ruled wicked Queen Neve, whose frozen-heart governed with an iron fist. In the lush eastern kingdom ruled Princess Thalia, whose kind-heart was forever with her people. And to the peaceful north, ruled King Ridley in whose heart lied all that was good and right with the world. |
K2 |
King Ridley
King Ridley had much respect and admiration for the other rulers, but much to his sorrow, evil Queen Neve had set her sights upon ruling all the realms. King Ridley wanted a peaceful resolution to the conflict as he was a man convinced that words, not bloodshed, could resolve any conflict. |
K3 |
Queen Neve and Red Guard
In her effort to conquer the other realms, Queen Neve sent out her Crimson Guards, her most elite and feared soldiers, and ordered them to destroy anyone who stood in her way. It was not long before war began to spread across the land, causing unease and fright amongst the free peoples. |
K4 |
Wizards Castor and Pollux
One day, the wise Wizard Caster arrived at King Ridley's castle bearing news that would help turn the tide of the war. If King Ridley would seek out the Mercury Stone and win it as his own, his victory over Queen Neve would be assured. The Mercury Stone sat under a veil of protection hidden in Lady Audrey's Woods to the west. Caster also cautioned the King that the Wizard Pollux, Caster's brother, had already warned Queen Neve about the Mercury Stone. |
K5 |
Sir Adya
King Ridley and Sir Adya, the King's most loyal and valiant knight, rode out of the grand castle in the cover of night, until they reached the borders of Lady Audrey's Woods. The pair ventured deep into the woods, listening for any signs of conflict. Suddenly, there came a loud crash from behind. The pair found themselves facing several of Queen Neve's Guards. Sir Adya stepped protectively in front of King Ridley and urged him to continue on while they held off the soldiers. |
K6 |
Z'ymira the Huntress
Desperate for help in defeating Queen Neve, King Ridley hoped to contact the Huntress Z'ymira. For with Princess Thalia's forces defeated, the Huntress was the only one who could help turn the tide of the war. Sadly, Sir Adya informed the King that there was no way for a raven to make it safely through the woods and back to deliver the message before Queen Neve's forces arrived at the castle. |
K7 |
Sir Amand Rauth
Sir Adya had more grim news for the King. The trusted knight believed that Sir Rauth had betrayed them and told the evil Queen the location of the Mercury Stone. This news hit the King like a punch to the gut. It was not that King Ridley believed Sir Rauth to be completely loyal to him, as the King had always suspected an underlying cowardliness in the man. But King Ridley had believed, falsely it would seem, that Sir Rauth would remain by his side when it mattered most. |
K8 |
Princess Thalia
King Ridley was desperate to find and rescue Princess Thalia, to fulfill the promise of keeping her safe that he made to the late King William, Princess Thalia's father. King Ridley climbed up the outside of the tower, grasping at branches, vines, brick and stone as he made his way to the single window at the top of the tower. Inside, he was happily greeted by Runa, Princess Thalia's loyal dog. |
K9 |
King Ridley and the Princess Thalia
Lying on a bed inside the tower's chamber was Princess Thalia. As King Ridley and her dog Runa approached the Princess, the room rippled and glowed with a bright warm light. King Ridley shielded his eyes as the enchantment around Princess Thalia instantly fell away. The Princess was thankful for the rescue but concerned about Queen Neve, who now possessed the Mercury Stone. King Ridley eased the Princess' concerns, telling her that his true power lay here within this very room, with her. |
