Representing the Fibonan Republic, Captain Kirk brings a message of goodwill and a gift to the Teenaxxi Delegation in an effor to broker peace. However, the Teenaxi Delegation refuses the gift, a piece of an ancient alien weapon, and attacks Kirk. While fending off the aliens, Kirk hails the Enterprise, and Scotty beams him back to the ship. |
3 |
After Kirk returns to the Enterprise with the ancient alien artifac - originally intended as a gift from the Fibonan Republic to the Teenaxi Delegation, Spock places the item in storage aboard the ship. The Vulcan science officer uploads details of the item into Federation archives. |
4 |
Captain Kirk reflects on being in space for nearly three years and the challenges of feeling grounded when even gravity is artificial aboard the Enterprise. Kirk records in his captain's log the sacrifices made by his crew during their time in space and the ability of the engineering department, led by Scotty, to keep the ship functioning. |
5 |
McCoy pays a visit to Kirk in his private quarters and tries to cheer him up, since its [sic] Kirk's birthday, the same date that his father died. Together, they drink a toast to the deceased George Kirk. |
6 |
Kirk and McCoy return to the bridge of the Enterprise as the ship approaches Yorktown, the Federation's newest and most advanced starbase, where the crew will enjoy some shore leave. |
7 |
shortly after arriving at Yorktown, two elder Vulcans approach Spock with news that Ambassador Spock has died. Spock wishes the two elder Vulcans to "live long and prosper." Alone with his thoughts, Spock appears shaken at this devsatating news. |
8 |
Other members of the crew depart the Enterprise for shore leave at Yorktown, including Kirk and Sulu. The captain looks on admiringly, if not enviously, as Sulu revels in a warm reunion with his family. |
9 |
An unidentified, non-Federation spacecraft approaches Yorktown. Starbase security officers warn the vessel to power down and to await instructions. An alien woman suddenly comes on the view screen speaking an unfamiliar language, but appearing to send a distress call. |
10 |
The alien woman, Kalara, comes aboard Yorktown and explains her situation, using a universal translator. She tells how she was on a science mission inside a nearby nebula when her ship suffered a critical malfunction. She took an escape pod before her ship crash-landed on a planet. Kalara asks for assistance in rescuing her ship and crew. |
11 |
Captain Kirk and Commodore Paris agree to send the Enterprise on the mission to rescue Kalara's ship and crew inside a nearby, but uncharted nebula. Meanwhile, Paris informs Kirk that Starfleet Command sent his application for vice-admiral at Yorktown. Kirk recommends that Spock shold replace him as captain of the Enterprise. |
12 |
Kirk and Spock enter the turbolift on their way to the bridge. The two men struggle to express what;s on their minds. Kirk suggests that when their mission is over, they sit down and talk. Spock admits that he , too, has something he wants to share with the captain, but the awkwardness of the moment fades once they arrive on the bridge. |
13 |
As he leads the Enterprise back into space, Uhura opens a shipwide channel, and Kirk addresses the crew. Kirk explains their mission is to rescue a crew stranded on a planet in uncharted space, while traveling through an unstable nebula that will disable all communications with Starfleet. |
14 |
After passing through the nebula, the Enterprise comes upon Altamid, a Class-M planet with massive subterranean development but no life-forms on its surface. Suddenly, Chekov detects an unknown ship heading directly towards them. Uhura hails the vessel, but get no response. She soon realizes that the vessel is jamming their signals. |
15 |
Sulu magnifies the images of the approaching ship, which appears unfamiliar. Kirk immediately senses danger and orders shields up and red alert. At that moment, the alien vessel launches a massive attack on the Enterprise, with swarms of smaller ships rapidly closing in. |
16 |
Chekov announces that phasers are having minimal effect against the alien attack, and Spock warns that they are not adequately equipped to fight back. Shields suddenly fail, and the Enterprise succumbs to an attack unlike anything it has previously encountered. |
17 |
Kirk orders Sulu to initiate warp drive to escape the alien ships, but thw Enterprise's engines fail to engage. Kirk calls down to engineering, where Scotty delivers bad news - the nacelles have been severd from the ship. The Enterprise has been crippled. |
18 |
Kirk invokes emergency procedures, as the alien ships continue to breach the hull of the Enterprise. Armed with a phaser, Spock discovers that an alien named Krall and his men have infiltrated the Enterprise and that Krall has specifically come for the ancient alien artifact from their mission to Teenax. |
19 |
Spock and McCoy elude the alien invaders within the Enterprise, while Kirk goes after their leader, Krall, leaving Sulu in charge of the conn. Kirk and Krall soon cone face-to-face. Krall gets the upper hand, literally lifting Kirk off the ground and holding him by the neck. |
20 |
Scotty rings up the ship's systems to reroute energy reserves from the warp core to impulse engines. The sudden thrust knocks Krall off balance, causing him to lose his grip on both Kirk and the alien artifact. Meanwhile, Spock and McCoy depart the Enterprise in one of the alien swarm ships. |
21 |
Chekov discovers that the ship has 100% impulse power. Sulu, at the conn, orders the ship back into the nebula. However, when Krall learns what's happening, he orders his men to "cut the throat" of the Enterprise. The aliens renew their attack and permanently disable the ship. |
22 |
Kirk grabs the alien artifact, finds a communications console and hails the bridge. Chekov announces that they are losing inertial dampeners, while Sulu informs Kirk that systems are failing and hull integrity is at 18% and falling. Kirk orders the crew to abandon ship. Scotty, among others, follows the order. |
23 |
After securing the alien artifact with Ensign Syl, Kirk races thorugh the ship to find the controls for saucer separation. Splitting the ship will draw attention from the aliens and help more of his crew before he can complete the task. |
24 |
As Kirk battles Krall, Uhura fends off several alien attackers. In a moment of truth, Uhura seals off the chambers separating the saucer from what's left of the rest of the ship, and engages the separation mechanism. She is left with the villainous Krall, as Kikr remains aboard the separated saucer section. |
25 |
Left aboard the saucer section, Kirk makes his way back to the bridge of the Enterprise, where he discovers several aliens about to attack the remaining crew. Kirk draws his phaser and shows the aliens no mercy. |
26 |
Chekov informs Kirk that they are caught in the planet's gravity and cannot pull away. Kirk orders the remaining crew to abandon ship in escape pods. Meanwhile, Kirk remains on the bridge until the last of the crew has left. |
27 |
After all other crew members have left the ship, Kirk boards his own escape pod, which jettisons safely away from the decimated saucer section. Kirk watches from a distance as the remains of the Enterprise helplessly fall through the planet's atmosphere. |
28 |
The heavily damaged saucer section of the Enterprise finally comes to rest on the planet's surface. Meanwhile, after landing on the planet in his escape pod, Kirk confronts Kalara and accuses her of knowing that they would be attacked. Staring at the end of Kirk's phaser, Kalara admits her duplicity. |
29 |
Kalara reveals that Krall, leader of the alien attack force, had taken her crew and held them hostage in exchange for her bringing the Enterprise to him. Kirk orders Chekov to scan the area for other survivors, but his tricorder reveals nothing. They must find the saucer section, which will have greater scanning capabilities. |
30 |
Elsewhere on the planet, Krall and his men herd the captured crew of the Enterprise into an undergound complex. Uhura accuses Krall of an act of war against the Federation. Krall shows no remorse and adds that he is counting on Kirk to try to rescue her and the other crew members. |
31 |
Spock and McCoy land their alien swarm ship on the planet, but Spock is gravely injured. McCoy realizes he needs to tend to Spock;s wounds immediately, or the Vulcan will die. Using an alien laser, McCoy cauterizes Spock's wound. |
32 |
Scotty barely escapes with his life, after landing his pod, which soon falls hundreds of feet below him. The chief engineer eventually finds the crashed pod, only to find everything inoperable, including his communicator. Suddenly, three alien scavengers arrive, and Scotty must defend himself. |
33 |
An alien woman with unusual black and white coloring distracts the alien scavengers who have threatened Scotty. Using a device that creates multiple hologrpahic images of herself, she takes down the scavengers, who retreat in defeat. She then turns her attention to Scotty, and questions him in English. |
34 |
The alien woman questions Scotty on his uniform insignia. She appears less threatening when Scotty reveals he is a member of Starfleet. The two strike a deal - she will help him find his crewmates, and he will help her fixx things. Finally, she reveals her name: Jaylah. |
35 |
Kalara leads Kirk and Chekov through a jungle-like terrain, when suddenly they spot the wreckage of the Enterprise's saucer section. Chekov doubts that the ship may have any power, but Kirk remains stoically optimistic. Kirk remarks, "She still has a few tricks up her sleeve.... I'd bet on it." |
36 |
McCoy tries to contact the Enterprise, as he and Spock move through the rocky terrain. Suddenly, the duo comes upon an abandoned shelter. Spock notes that the symbols on the walls are the same as those depicted on the artifact taken in the attack. Spock suddenly falls down in pain from the injuries sustained in the crash. |
37 |
Jaylah leads Scotty thorugh the rocky terrain, until they finally arrive at her "house," which Scotty soon realizes is actually a ship, and Jaylah needs his help to fix it, in order for her to leave the planet. When he questions whether it's actually her ship, she replies, "No, Montgomery Scotty. It's yours." The ship is the long lost U.S.S. Franklin. |
38 |
In the cover of darkness, Kirk, Chekov and Kalara elude Krall's patrols as they make their way through the wreckage of the Enterprise, to the bridge. Once there, Chekov reconfigures the scanners to mudulate for the crew's signals. Meanwhile, Kirk tells Kalara to come with him, as he left something behind in another part of the ship. |
39 |
Uhura and Sulu escape from their holding cell and infiltrate Krall's complex. Inside one of the structures, Sulu identifies an old Magellan Probe, which the Federation would have used to find its way through the nebula. |
40 |
Sulu follows the power lines from the Magellan Probe to a computer station, where he and Uhura try sending a distress signal to Yorktown. Sulu discovers that Krall has been accessing Yorktown's database, including the Enterprise's ship files. Suddenly, Krall and his men arrive and return Sulu and Uhura to their holdnig cells. |
41 |
Kirk pretends to have hidden the alien artifact inside the Enterprise. When Kalara tries to abscond with it, she soon discovers it's a ruse to track her communications and to locate their source. However, Krall's men soon arrive, and Kirk and Chekov exchange phaser fire with them. |
42 |
Kirk and Chekov engage the ship's thrusters, in an effort to escape fron Kalara and Krall's men. As the saucer section of the Enterprise slowly rises and begins to flip over, the captain shoots out the view screen of the bridge. Kirk and Chekov jump through and slide to safety. However, Kalara fails to make it, as the saucer crashes on top of her. |
43 |
Krall summons Uhura and Sulu, and reveals that he altered the coordinates sent in their distress call. The search ships will be lost within the nebula, leaving Yorktown more susceptible to an attack. Krall demonstrates his resolve by torturing two other captured Enterprise crew members. |
44 |
Resting inside the alien shelter, Spock reveals to McCoy that Ambassador Spock died. The younger Spock reveals that he intends to leave Starfleet to continue the ambassador's work on New Vulcan. McCoy jokingly quips that he'd throw a party over Spock's departure, which causes the ailing Vulcan to break out in uncharacteristic laughter. |
45 |
Kirk and Chekov traverse the rocky terrain towards the coordinates taken from Kalara's call to Krall. However, they soon set off one of Jaylah's traps. She and Scotty investigate, and he immediately reveals to her that Kirk and Chekov are friends. Jaylah leads them back to the Franklin. |
46 |
Scotty explains that the Franklin was the first Earth ship capable of Warp 4 and went missing in the early 2160s. Kirk wonders how it ended up on Altamid. Scotty notes that there are various theories, including surrender to the Romulans and captured by a giant green space hand, but he believes it must have been due to a wormhole displacement. |
47 |
Scotty and Jaylah give Kikr a tour of the Franklin. Kirk is particularly fascinated by a PX-70 motorcycle, the same kind his had as a kid. Jaylah then shows how the ship has remained hidden from detection. She rigged up image refractors that create a holographic camouflage, keeping her safe from Krall's patrols. |
48 |
Chekov discovers a weak communication signal, but at least it's a Starfleet frequency. At last, they have found some of the crew. Kirk ponders how they can get to them, and Scotty has an idea. However, he is reluctant to proceed without the captain's permission, in case thinfs go wrong. |
49 |
Scotty locks onto the signal from McCoy's communicator, and he begins the process of beaming aboard Spock and McCoy. Spock beams out first, and McCoy - unaware of what's happening - momentarily believes he's been stranded to fend for himself. "Well, that's just typical," McCoy remarks. |
50 |
After Scotty beams aboard Spock and McCoy to the Franklin, Kirk lends a hand when it's clear that Spock has been injured. The Vulcan science officer dismisses the severity of his injuries, to the chagrin of McCoy. Spock informs Kirk that the stolen artifact desired by Krall appears to have come from the planet on which they now find themselves. |
51 |
As Krall grows increasingly frustrated at his inability to locate the alien artifact, he threatens Sulu. Unable to stand idly by as Sulu is tortured, Ensign Syl reveals that she has the artifact hidden within her cranial appendages. Manas, Krall's chief lieutenant, removes the artifact. |
52 |
Despite objections from Scotty, Kirk insists that they try to rescue the crew immediately. Spock asks Chekov to reconfigure the search parameters to locate the mineral vokaya, from which Uhura's amulet was made. They get an immediate hit, which reveals the likely location of Uhura and the rest of the crew at Krall's base. |
53 |
Jaylah pleads with Kirk, Scotty and the others not to go to Krall's base to rescue the Enterprise crew. She insists that Krall will kill anyone who goes there, despite the fact that she once escaped. Jaylah initially refuses to help, but with some heartfelt convincing from Kirk and Scotty, she finally agrees to assist. |
54 |
With Jaylah's guidance, Kirk and his colleagues put together a scale model of Krall's base of operations. Scotty and Chekov work on the logistics of transporting the captured crew back to the Franklin, while Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Jaylah set a plan to infiltrate the base. Spock suggests that they will need a diversion, and Kirk has an idea. |
55 |
Inside the base of operations, Krall explains to Uhura, Sulu and Syl that the alien artifact was used by the Ancient Ones as a weapon. When they couldn't control its immense power, they split it into two pieces and sent in into space. Krall reveals that he has spent his life searching for this weapon, which he has now made whole again. |
56 |
Krall traps Ensign Syl inside a sealed chamber to demonstrate the power of the alien weapon, a key part of which Syl ironically handed over to him. Uhura pleads with Krall to release Syl, but he callously watches as the charged weapon decimates and disintegrates her body. |
57 |
Driving the PX-70 motorcycle found aboard the Franklin, Kirk speeds into Krall's camp and creates a diversion that allows Jaylah, Spock and McCoy to arrive unnoticed. Kirk uses Jaylah's holographic replication device to create multiple versions of himself, adding further distraction. |
58 |
Krall's top henchman, Manas, tells Krall to take the alien weapon and finish their mission, while Manas attempts to take down Kirk. The increasing number of holographic images of the Enterprise captain, however, makes it nearly impossible for Manas or the other alien soldiers to stop Kirk. |
59 |
As Kirk and his many holographic clones speed through Krall's camp, Jaylah leads Spock and McCoy to where the captured crew of the Enterprise are being held. Jaylah hides atop one of the alien structures and shoots out several of Krall's men. Meanwhile, Sulu informs Spock that Krall has taken Uhura. |
60 |
As Spock goes in search of Uhura, McCoy and Sulu lead the others to a safe location where Scotty and Chekov start to beam them aboard the Franklin, twenty people at a time. |
61 |
Manas surprises Jaylah, and the two, long-time adversaries wage a fierce hand-to-hand battle throughout the alien complex. Manas intially gains an advantage and taunts Jaylah by telling her that she will die just like her father, whom he killed. Fuelled by her rage, Jaylah reasserts herself and evens the fight. |
62 |
Spock cautiously works his way through Krall's compound in search of Uhura. Some of Krall's men surprise Spock, whose previous injuries prevent him from overpowering his attackers. Suddenly, Uhura appears, knocks out the attackers and saves Spock. Uhura is pleased to learn that Spock has come to rescue her. |
63 |
In his own ship, Krall blasts off from the planet with his alien weapon, along with scores of swarn ships, all heading for Yorktown. Meanwhile, McCoy holds off Scotty and Chekov from beaming out until Spock and Uhura arrive. Krall's remaining soldiers soon close in on them. |
64 |
Seeing the remaining members of his crew in danger, Kirk speeds to their rescue and uses one of Jaylah's security devices to create a temporary shield. Krall's men are thwarted as Spock, McCoy, Uhura and the others beam safely to the Franklin. |
65 |
Kirk and Jaylah are the only two members of the rescue team still left in Krall's compound, and she's locked in battle with Manas. As Scotty begins to beam Kirk back to the Franklin, the captain calls out to her to jump, as he propels himself into the air. Upon making contact with Kirk, Jaylah beams back to the ship with him. Rescue complete. |
66 |
With all of the surviving Enterprise crew safely aboard the Franklin, Sulu informs Kirk that Krall intends to destroy Yorktown. Spock adds that it may just be the beginning. Kirk orders Scotty to prepare the Franklin to fly, so that they can stop Krall from carrying out his diabloical plot. |
67 |
As the crew prepares to launch the Franklin, Chekov announces that all systems are online and that the dilithium chambers are at 70% and climbing. Chekov reminds Sulu that they must achieve terminal velocity in order for the stabilizers to provide lift. They activate the ship, which slowly lurches forward. |
68 |
The Franklin careers over the side of a cliff and accelerates towards terminal velocity. The ship nearly crashes, but the stabilizers activate just in time to provide the lift needed to break free of the planet's gravity and to thrust itself back into space. |
69 |
Yorktown's defense systems quickly detect Krall and his swarm ships emerging from the nebula. Yorktown immediately goes to red alert, and its inhabitants take cover. Krall and his armada attack, and Yorktown's systems prove ineffective in defending the station. |
70 |
With the Franklin's weapons systems incapable of stopping Krall, Kirk needs another way to save Yorktown. Spock deduces that Krall's swarm ships must rely on some form of unified cyberpathic coordination. Uhura adds that if they can disorient the swarm, they might prevail. |
71 |
Kirk wants to beam aboard one of the swarm ships, but Spock logically insists that his familiarity with those ships makes him more qualified for the task. Citing Spock's injuries, Kirk remains skeptical, but the Vulcan offers to bring McCoy with him. Kirk agrees, and McCoy is typically cantankerous. |
72 |
After beaming aboard a swarm ship with McCoy, Spock confirms the cyberpathic link among the ships. Kirk and Scotty devise a plan to use radio signals to disrupt the swarm ships. They blast the music Jaylah found aboard the Franklin, causing the swarm ships to start crashing into each other. |
73 |
Krall penetrates Yorktown's outer shell, along with two of his swarm ships. Aboard the Franklin, Kirk and crew give chase, while Spock and McCoy do the same in the swarm ship that they have commandeered. They must stop Krall from activating the alien weapon, which will kill everyone on Yorktown, if activated. |
74 |
As Krall and his men head for Yorktown headquarters, Kirk and crew steer the Franklin on an intercept course and force the aliens to crash before reaching their destination. Krall survives the crash and escapes the wreckage to continue his mission of destruction. |
75 |
Despite causing Krall and his men to crash their ships into the saucer of the Franklin, Kirk and his crew must still locate Krall and neutralize the alien weapon. Chekov notes three hull breaches, indicating that Krall and hismen may not yet have been stopped. Kirk and Uhura search the ship. |
76 |
Searching the Franklin's video logs, Uhura concludes that Krall is actually Balthazar Edison, formerly captain of the Franklin. Scotty, pulls up Edison's records and learns that he was a soldier later assigned to the Franklin. When the ship went missing, he was presumed dead, but Edison discovered alien technology that prolonged his life. |
77 |
Kirk assumes that Krall intends to use his weapon to inflict maximum damage, through Yorktown's atmospheric regulation system. Scotty notes that the only access point is a maintenance tower at the station's gravitational nexus. Kirk goes after Krall at that nexus, while Scotty and Jaylah attempt to shut down the system. |
78 |
Kirk reaches the top of the maintenance tower at the station's gravitational nexus and finds a mutating Balthazar Edison, aka Krall, preparing to unleash his weapon on Yorktown. Kirk stuns Edison with his phaser, but the superhuman Krall won't go down easily. |
79 |
Kirk and Krall engage in a fierce, hand-to-hand battle, while the gravitaional fields pull them from building to building. Krall soon gets away from Kirk long enough to activate his weapon, and there's only moments to spare. Scotty instructs Kirk how they must manually open the hatch. |
80 |
As Krall tries to stop Kirk from thwarting his mission, he inadvertently becomes enveloped by his own weapon. Kirk opens the hatch to the outside, and Krall and the weapon are drawn into space. However, Kirk is also pulled towards the open hatch, until McCoy and Spock arrive by swarm ship just in time to rescue their captain. |
81 |
After saving millions of lives, Kirk is offered promotion to vice admiral by Commodore Paris. However, the heroic captain realizes that the position of vice admiral wold preclude him from venturing out into space. Kirk turns down the promotion to remain with his crew. |
82 |
With their mission complete, Spock finds a quiet moment to look through the personal effects left behind by the deceased Ambassador Spock. Among the aticles is a photo of his older self with his beloved shipmates - Kirk, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu and Chekov. |
83 |
After another successful mission and a minor crisis averted, McCoy organizes an impromptu, surprise birthday celebration for Kirk. Spock, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, Jaylah and many others attend the party. McCoy makes a toast to James T. Kirk, and Kirk responds with a toast to the Enterprise - and to absent friends. |
84 |
At Kirk's party, Uhura and Spock reignite their off-duty relationship, while Scotty informs Jaylah that the captain pulled a few strings and got her accepted into Starfleet Academy. |
85 |
The crew of the Enterprise looks on while their ship is rebuilt. The Enterprise emerges as good as ever, with Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov continuing their mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.... |
