At a celebration of the Federation's millennium, Stamets mourns the end of the spore drive program, which Booker and Tarka ruined. Saru, while dancing with T'Rina, shares that President Rillak has asked him to be a Federation Ambassador to Small Planets. Suddenly Admiral Vance and Burnham are transported to a mysterious room where Dr. Kovich issues a "Red Directive" for Discovery to secure an ancient Romulan ship holding something crucial to the Federation's security. |
2 |
 |
Moll and L'ak, lovers and scavengers, are on a mission to find the secret object Discovery was sent to retrieve aboard a Romulan ship. Meanwhile, on Discovery, Kovich orders Burnham to secure the ship at all costs. Leading an away team to the Romulan vessel, Burnham confronts Moll and L'ak. The scavengers escape, ejecting Burnham into space. However, she clings to their ship with magnetic boots as it warps away. The U.S.S. Antares locks a tractor beam on the scavengers' ship but releases it in order to save Burnham. |
3 |
 |
Burnham enlists Booker to aid in the pursuit of L'ak and Moll. Despite the tension between them, Burnham acknowledges Booker's efforts to atone for his actions during the DMA crisis. Meanwhile, Captain Rayner of the Antares discloses the true identities of Moll and L'ak, while Burnham reveals they stole a rare Romulan puzzle box. Booker quickly deduces that the scavengers are headed to Q'mau, a planet known for ancient relics, and to an enigmatic trader named Fred. Elsewhere, Tilly contemplates the best way to mentor her cadets at Starfleet Academy, when Burnham reaches out and asks her to join the Red Directive mission. |
4 |
 |
On Q'mau, Moll and L'ak attempt to sell the Romulan puzzle box's contents — an ancient diary — to Fred, a Soong-type android. They reject Fred's offer of three bars of latinum, sparking a firefight that leaves Moll injured and Fred dead. The scavengers flee with the diary. Burnham, Booker and Rayner arrive shortly after, sending Fred to Discovery while pursuing the thieves. Aboard Discovery, Stamets and Culber work to extract Fred's memory. Meanwhile, Tilly and Vance discover the diary holds clues left by Romulan scientist Vellek about a dangerous artifact. |
5 |
 |
Burnham, Booker and Rayner pursue Moll and L'ak on sand runners. The scavengers board their ship and fire on the away team, racing toward tunnels rigged with explosives. Saru warns that an explosion will trigger a massive sand avalanche. Burnham and Rayner disagree on tactics, but Rayner orders the Antares to fire on the tunnels. Moll and L'ak also fire, causing the avalanche, which was about to destroy a nearby outpost, killing thousands. The Discovery and Antares enter the atmosphere and block the avalanche, saving the outpost. |
6 |
 |
At Federation HQ, T'Rina proposes to Saru. Meanwhile, Stamets and Culber use Fred's recording of Vellek's diary to locate the ancient clue on a planet with twin moons in the Vileen system. Burnham confronts Kovich about the Red Directive, and he reveals they are seeking a powerful piece of technology, originally discovered by Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Created by "The Progenitors," it was used to seed life across the galaxy, but it also holds immense destructive potential. Moll and L'ak are after this technology, so Discovery must find it first. |
7 |
 |
After reviewing the Progenitor hologram with Saru and getting an update on Discovery's repairs, Burnham joins an inquiry into her and Rayner's actions on Q'mau. Rillak reports that the Starfleet Corps of Engineers has started repairs, but the political fallout is severe. Burnham explains her disagreement with Rayner's plan, while Rayner defensively warns of increasing Breen and Orion aggression. Vance closes the inquiry and dismisses Rayner. Burnham learns Discovery is ready to jump to Lyrek, where the first clue is located, and reassures Vance that Booker's presence on the mission will be beneficial. |
8 |
 |
Discovery arrives at Lyrek and pinpoints the first clue's location, based on Vellek's diary, but it's shielded by a massive electromagnetic field. Saru, on his final mission aboard Discovery before becoming a Federation Ambassador, joins Burnham on the away team to the planet. On Lyrek, Saru notes the peaceful surroundings and reports no sign of Moll and L'ak. Meanwhile, aboard Discovery, Culber welcomes Booker back. They discover Moll is human, while L'ak's species remains unknown. Booker devises a plan to lure the thrill-seeking couriers into a trap to capture them. |
9 |
 |
On Lyrek, Burnham and Saru discuss Michael's needs in a new first officer before finding two corpses near a giant hand-shaped statue. Meanwhile, aboard Discovery, Adira and Tilly reconnect briefly before assisting Saru and Burnham in their search for the clue. Tilly warns of a spike in the electromagnetic field, just as attack drones launch from a statue of a face. A holographic Rayner joins Tilly and Adira to help disable the planet's security system, moments before the drones detonate near Burnham and Saru. |
10 |
 |
While Saru distracts the attack drones, Burnham rushes to the head statue and uses their phasers to disable the planetary security system. On Discovery, Stamets and Zora study a diagram from Vellek's diary, joined by Booker and Culber. Book uses "dark comms" to contact Moll and L'ak, posing as a buyer for the diary, hoping to learn more. Moll recognizes his name and cuts off communication. Meanwhile, Burnham and Saru reach the clue's location, only to find it destroyed by Moll and L'ak. Saru devises a method to reconstruct it. |
11 |
 |
Saru and Burnham work together to decipher the clue on Lyrek and recover a small object matching Vellek's diagram. They hide the remaining clue before beaming back to Discovery as the attack drones return. Burnham gives the clue piece to Stamets, realizing it's part of a map that will lead to the Progenitors' technology. Meanwhile, Booker studies an image of Moll and L'ak, discovering that Moll is the daughter of his mentor, Cleveland Booker IV, making her the closest thing to family he has left. |
12 |
 |
Burnham and Saru share an emotional farewell as he leaves Discovery to begin his new role as an ambassador. Later, Burnham learns Vance has ordered Rayner into early retirement due to the inquiry. She finds Rayner on the observation deck of Federation HQ, gazing at Discovery. Burnham offers him the role of her new first officer, succeeding Saru. Rayner hesitates, saying he's not a "yes man." Burnham replies that's exactly what she needs and informs him that Discovery's next mission is to the planet Trill, where the next clue awaits. |
13 |
 |
As Discovery prepares to jump to Trill, Booker and Culber brief Burnham on Moll's identity, while Tilly and Adira identify Trill markings on the original clue keeper, a joined Trill named Jinaal Bix. Rayner, newly demoted to commander, joins as the new first officer and is tasked with meeting the senior officers one-on-one. Discovery jumps to Trill, searching for the current host of the Bix symbiont. Meanwhile, Adira grows anxious about reuniting with Gray after six months, prompting Reno to give Stamets some "dad advice" on how to support Adira. |
14 |
 |
After solving a riddle protecting the clue, Burnham, Booker, Culber and Adira beam to the surface, where they meet Kalzara Bix, the current host of the Bix symbiont. Kalzara reveals she holds Jinaal's memories of the clue they seek. Culber volunteers to undergo the zhian'tara ritual, allowing him to temporarily carry Jinaal's consciousness. Meanwhile, at Federation HQ, Saru and T'Rina discuss their engagement announcement. Saru requests the removal of an embarrassing detail from |
15 |
 |
As Adira and Gray navigate an awkward reunion, Culber undergoes the zhian'tara ritual, embodying Jinaal's consciousness. Though Jinaal doesn't recall the clue's exact coordinates, he remembers the path and leads Burnham and Book through a canyon hike. Meanwhile, at Federation HQ, Saru spearheads a debate on resource allocation and Breen defenses. After the meeting, T'Rina's assistant, Duvin, confronts Saru about the political implications of T'Rina's vote, suggesting her support for Saru, which appeared emotional, could jeopardize her standing on Ni'Var due to their personal relationship. |
16 |
 |
On Discovery, Rayner's abrasive style rubs the crew the wrong way, leaving many feeling uncomfortable or offended. Meanwhile, on Trill, Adira and Gray have a heartfelt conversation that leads to the end of their relationship. Elsewhere, Culber-as-Jinaal expresses skepticism about whether the Federation deserves the Progenitors' tech. Burnham, defiant, insists the Federation's intentions are purely good. They arrive at a rock formation where Jinaal claims the clue is hidden, but a monstrous itronok attacks. Jinaal flees, leaving Booker and Burnham to figure out how to calm the creature. |
17 |
 |
Booker is injured while fleeing the ironok. As Burnham tends to his wound, they discover its eggs, realizing the creature is protecting its young. Burnham signals they pose no threat, and Booker connects with the itronok empathically, allowing them safe passage toward the clue. On Discovery, Stamets updates the crew on the Progenitors' tech but is dismissed by Rayner. Tilly confronts Rayner about his rude behavior toward the crew. Meanwhile, Saru and T'Rina have a brief disagreement over their engagement announcement. |
18 |
 |
Culber-as-Jinaal reveals that Burnham and Booker's encounter with the itronok was a test of worthiness. Having passed, he gives them the next clue. On Discovery, Rayner joins Tilly in the bar, reflecting on his conversations with the crew and how respect must be earned. Tilly reminds him that respect works both ways. Culber tells Burnham that his experience as Jinaal has changed him, though he's unsure how. At Kalzara's funeral, Adira says a final goodbye to Gray, unaware that Moll, disguised as a Guardian, secretly plants a small object on Adira's sleeve. |
19 |
 |
Adira and Gray share an emotional farewell over comms. A distraught Adira reports to Stamets to repair a deuterium manifold. As they püt on their uniform, a small metallic bug sneaks into Discovery's ductwork. Meanwhile, the crew reaches the coordinates provided by Jinaal Bix, only to find nothing there. When Rayner criticizes Rhys' theory, Burnham orders him to the Ready Room and reprimands him. Suddenly, an anomaly appears, and Burnham and Rayner attempt to transport but find themselves unable to do so. |
20 |
 |
Burnham and Rayner discover that Discovery is caught in time loops, caused by the robotic time bug Moll secretly planted on Adira. Due to their attempt to transport during the first time shift, Burnham and Rayner are aware of the shifts but unaffected like the rest of the crew. The ship jumps to pivotal moments, including its journey to the 32nd century, its construction, and the Battle of Control. Realizing Stamets is also outside the time shifts, Burnham seeks him out to help stop the time bug and restore normalcy to the ship. |
21 |
 |
Discovery jumps to the battle against Osyraa. Burnham and Rayner head to Engineering to find Stamets but run into Reno. Burnham hides while Rayner convinces Reno he's on a special assignment, just before another time shift occurs. This time, they land in a possible future where the Breen, aided by the Progenitors' technology that Moll and L'ak obtained, have destroyed the Federation, including Discovery. Burnham realizes they aren't just traveling through time but also through space. Using this insight, they begin tracking the duration of each time jump, hoping to find a solution. |
22 |
 |
After the latest time jump, Stamets enlists Reno's help to brainstorm a solution. She jokes about being stuck in a time loop before noticing Burnham and Rayner hiding nearby. Stamets clears Engineering and reunites with Burnham and Rayner. Together, they devise a plan to remove the time bug from the ship's system, but it requires perfect precision to avoid merging multiple timelines. Stamets must construct a chroniton stabilizer to achieve this. As they gather parts after the next jump, they have an awkward encounter with Burnham-Prime and a past version of Booker. |
23 |
 |
Stamets' attempt to stop the time bug with his chroniton stabilizer fails, as the robotic insect is protected by a temporal shield. The next time shift brings the trio to when Burnham first boarded Discovery as a disgraced mutineer. On her way to the Bridge, Burnham encounters her past self, who doubts Burnham-Prime's explanation, sparking a fistfight between them. Meanwhile, a frustrated Stamets confronts Rayner, feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to save the future. Rayner reassures him, helping Stamets realize he's not facing this challenge alone. |
24 |
 |
Burnham-Prime reaches Discovery's Bridge and convinces the skeptical crew of her identity by recounting Ariam's death. In Engineering, Past-Burnham and Past-Rhys hold Stamets and Rayner at phaser point, demanding they shut down the warp core. Rayner calms them by sharing knowledge from his relationships with their future selves. Discovery exits its warp bubble, allowing Rayner to disable the time bug. The trio returns to their present with the timeline intact. On the Bridge, they learn Moll and L'ak have already been to their coordinates and have vanished, heading toward the next clue. |
25 |
 |
After reflecting on his connection to Moll, Booker joins the crew on the Bridge, where Stamets and Tilly report that Moll and L'ak escaped through a wormhole-like aperture to a pocket of interdimensional space. Despite Rayner's objections, Burnham and Booker take a shuttle into the aperture. The journey is rough, but once inside, they discover Moll and L'ak's ship apparently destroyed. To their surprise, they also find another vessel trapped in this interdimensional space: the Mirror Universe's I.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701. |
26 |
 |
Aboard Discovery, the crew works to boost communications to reconnect with Burnham and Booker. In sickbay, Tilly offers to be a listening ear for Culber if needed. In Engineering Stamets reassures Adira that the time bug wasn't their fault. Rayner requests an update, and Stamets explains the complexities of keeping the aperture open while reminding him that no one is facing this alone. Meanwhile, Booker and Burnham board the I.S.S. Enterprise, where they find Moll, L'ak and the next clue hidden in the ship's sickbay. |
27 |
 |
In a flashback to their earliest encounter, Moll met L'ak, the disgraced nephew of a Breen Primarch, for the first time and offered to help him seek revenge on his uncle. Intrigued, L'ak agreed. Over the next few weeks, their partnership evolved into a secret romance, hidden from L'ak's uncle and the other Breen. When L'ak's uncle, Ruhn, ordered him to kill Moll, L'ak defied him, killing the guards holding her and wounding Ruhn. In retaliation, Ruhn declared an Erigah on both Lak and Moll, forcing them to flee together, knowing they'd be hunted for the rest of their lives. |
28 |
 |
Burnham finds a locket aboard the Enterprise and hides a small object inside, creating a decoy clue. She and Booker locate Moll, L'ak and several holo-clones of them in sickbay. A fierce firefight ensues, and once the holo-emitter is destroyed, Booker tries to negotiate, but Moll's bitterness toward her father makes it difficult. Moll offers to trade the real clue for safety. Burnham presents the locket as the clue, distracting them. She offers Federation protection, but Moll refuses, stating that the Federation can't undo an Erigah — a Breen blood bounty on her life. |
29 |
 |
On Discovery, the Bridge crew detects a massive object emerging from the aperture and devises a plan to widen it, allowing the Enterprise to pass through. Discovery successfully pulls the Enterprise out of interdimensional space, collapsing the aperture in the process. Moll and L'ak escape in a pod, with Moll determined to save L'ak. Culber confides in Tilly, accepting her offer to talk, and expresses uncertainty about the intellectual and spiritual experiences he's faced. Meanwhile, Burnham and Booker reflect on their pursuit of the clues and the importance of taking control of their own futures. |
30 |
 |
On the Enterprise, the firefight reignites when Moll destroys a control panel, trapping Burnham and L'ak in a containment field. Meanwhile, Booker and Moll race to the Bridge to disable the forcefield. Booker tells Moll her father loved her, but she remains resentful.
Frustrated, Moll triggers a power surge, damaging the ship and setting it on a destructive course through the aperture. With the containment field down, Burnham and L'ak continue their fight. Burnham seizes the real clue just as Moll and Booker arrive in sickbay, witnessing L'ak accidentally stab himself. |
31 |
 |
While Tilly and Stamets analyze the latest clue — a vial of distilled water — Burnham meets with Kovich, who hands her a list of scientists' names on a genuine 21 st-century piece of paper. The list includes a Denobulan named Hitoroshi Kreel, an expert in weather modulation. Using this information, Zora and the crew locate the next clue on a pre-warp planet called Halem'no. Determined not to violate the Prime Directive, Burnham prepares for a discreet investigation. Meanwhile, Culber continues his spiritual journey by speaking with a hologram of his grandmother. |
32 |
 |
Burnham and Tilly study the language and gender identities of the people of Halem'no before beaming down to search for a weather tower, known locally as the High Summit. As they trek through the woods, they discuss the challenges of Starfleet Academy. They soon encounter a group of Halem'nites on their way to the High Summit, as well. Meanwhile, aboard Discovery, Culber advises Booker to take a break from his search for Moll and L'ak. Culber then asks Stamets to assist him with a neural scan to explore his ongoing spiritual journey. |
33 |
 |
Burnham and Tilly meet a young Halem'nite named Ravah, who leads them to a Healing Grove, where Ravah's father and Burnham work together to save a Halem'nite's life. Ravah explains that to enter the High Summit temple, one must complete a race called "The Journey of the Mother Compeer." At Burnham's request, the race is scheduled for the next morning. Meanwhile, on Discovery, Adira discovers that four other weather towers failed, causing the deaths of nearby towns. Culber learns his brain scans are normal, leaving him questioning the cause of his ongoing spiritual experiences. |
34 |
 |
Burnham, Tilly and Ravah take a dehydration pill before the race, with the rule that drinking water leads to disqualification from entering the High Summit. As the race begins, Burnham spots a trail of moss she believes leads to a weather tower control panel. Tilly nearly collapses, but Ravah helps her continue. Adira remotely guides Burnham in repairing the control panel. In the final stretch, Tilly and Ravah carry tempting bowls of water. When Ravah spills her bowl, Tilly refills it, allowing them to finish the race together. |
35 |
 |
Inside the High Summit temple, Tilly discovers she and Ravah are to be sacrificed to bring rain to the planet. As Discovery scrambles to save her, the temple seals, removing oxygen from the room. While praying with Ravah, Tilly realizes that the petroglyphs depict the five weather towers, revealing the location of the next clue. Burnham beams into the temple's outer chamber, confronting Ravah's father, Ohvahz. Ravah hums a song her mother used to sing, and Burnham echoes it, touching Ohvahz's heart. Moved, he agrees to help Burnham save Ravah and Tilly from the sacrifice. |
36 |
 |
Discovery's medical team beams down, saving Ravah and Tilly: Burnham reveals that the Denobulans built the weather towers for the Halem'nites and promises to teach Ohvahz how to maintain them, assuring him that his faith still holds meaning. Ravah reunites with her father, who believes the gods are imparting new truths. Back on Discovery, Culber and Booker reflect on humanity's search for meaning. Stamets examines a Betazoid card attached to the latest clue. Burnham and Tilly add the new clue to the collection, just as they learn that L'ak and Moll have been found. |
37 |
 |
Returning to Discovery for security support during the transfer of Moll and L'ak, Commander Nhan reluctantly agrees to include Booker in Moll's debrief. Moll and L'ak are beamed directly to Discovery's sickbay, where Culber treats L'ak's wounds. Discovery jumps to Federation HQ, where Admiral Vance informs Burnham that Moll and L'ak will remain aboard in case the ship needs to jump quickly. Meanwhile, a Breen ship is approaching Federation HQ, demanding the release of the prisoners. |
38 |
 |
Burnham and Rayner join Vance and T'Rina for a briefing at Federation HQ. T'Rina explains a succession crisis in the Breen Imperium, with six Primarchs vying for power. Rayner strongly opposes negotiating with the Breen, prompting Burnham to reprimand him for his outburst. On Discovery, Stamets urges Tilly to stay and help decode the Betazoid card clue. In sickbay, Burnham interrogates Moll and L'ak about the approaching Breen dreadnought. She realizes that one of the Primarchs needs L'ak to solidify his claim to the Imperium's throne. |
39 |
 |
Zora assists Stamets, Tilly and Adira in translating the Betazoid card clue, which references an ancient text called "Labyrinths of the Mind" and directs them to locate the original manuscript. Zora identifies Jett Reno, a former antique bookseller, as someone who might help. Reno agrees to assist in finding the manuscript just as the Breen dreadnought arrives. Primarch Rhun demands the fugitives, giving Starfleet one hour to comply. Stamets and Booker work on tracing the card's origin. Meanwhile, Burnham learns that the Breen once ruled Rayner's homeworld, killing thousands, including his family. |
40 |
 |
Reno explains to Tilly and Adira that original manuscripts are often stored in the Eternal Gallery and Archive, a neutral, constantly moving outpost. She suggests the Betazoid clue is likely a library card granting access to the manuscript. In sickbay, Moll and L'ak devise an escape plan. Meanwhile, at Federation HQ, T'Rina offers Ruhn dilithium to lift the Erigah. When Ruhn refuses, T'Rina counters by mentioning they may accept an offer from rival Primarch Tahal. Ruhn threatens to destroy Federation HQ if L'ak isn't handed over, but T'Rina recognizes it as an empty threat. |
41 |
 |
Moll distracts Culber, allowing L'ak to inject himself with a full day's dose of tricordrazine, forcing security to drop the containment field. Moll then fights Nhan and escapes. Meanwhile, Ruhn offers to outbid Tahal, but T'Rina counters by stating they'll reject Tahal's offer if Ruhn leaves peacefully. He agrees, just as Burnham discovers Moll has vanished. Booker uses his empathic abilities to connect with a thought imprint left on the Betazoid card by scientist Marina Derex. Ruhn and a Breen medic arrive to treat L'ak. Moments later, Book and Nhan persuade Moll to return to L'ak's side as he nears death. |
42 |
 |
As L'ak dies, Moll watches in grief while Ruhn accuses the Federation of murdering his nephew and orders an attack. Four Starfleet ships arrive to defend Federation HQ, but Moll reveals she and L'ak were secretly married, forcing Ruhn to take her with him. Moll claims the Federation is hiding a powerful weapon that she will help the Breen obtain. Federation leadership reluctantly agrees to turn Moll over, as she believes the Progenitors' tech can revive the dead. Later, Stamets, Adira and Tilly pinpoint the location of the Eternal Gallery and Archive, where the next clue awaits. |
43 |
 |
Aboard Primarch Ruhn's dreadnought, the crew celebrates L'ak's life as Moll vows the Progenitors' tech will bring him back. The Breen soldiers cheer, but Ruhn warns Moll he will eviscerate her if she addresses his soldiers again. Meanwhile, Discovery jumps to the Badlands and locates the Eternal Gallery and Archive. They are greeted by Hy'Rell, an archivist, who guides the ship safely through the plasma storm to the Archive. Upon arrival, Hy'Rell invites the crew to beam over and asks Booker to provide context for an artifact from Kwejian. |
44 |
 |
Burnham and Booker transport to the Archive, where Hy'Rell reassures Burnham not to worry about the Breen, as they work with all species that follow the rules. Hy'Rell leads them to the Betazoid manuscript, "The Labyrinths of the Mind." While Burnham examines the manuscript and finds a metal card similar to the previous clue, Hy'Rell and Booker inspect a Kwejian artifact. Booker recognizes it as a box made of Tuli wood containing World Root cuttings, which makes him emotional. Hy'Rell offers the roots to Booker, on the condition that he will return someday to report on their progress. |
45 |
 |
The metal card in the manuscript knocks Burnham unconscious, sending her into a mindscape where she encounters an avatar of Booker, dressed as an Eternal Archivist. Realizing this is another test, Burnham understands that finding the clue in the mindscape will reveal its location in the real world. Avatar Booker guides her, hinting at the challenge. Outside her mind, Culber examines Burnham while Booker unsuccessfully tries to enter the mindscape. Meanwhile, Rayner asks Hy'Rell for any information on the scientist who created the clue, hoping it might aid in Burnham's recovery and search. |
46 |
 |
The Breen arrive at the Eternal Archive, with Ruhn demanding the clue to the Progenitors' tech. When he threatens Hy'Rell, the archivist suspends Breen privileges. Ruhn, in turn, threatens Moll if he can't secure the tech. In the mindscape, Avatar Booker warns Burnham that failure to find the clue will result in her death. Burnham realizes the mindscape itself is the maze containing the clue. After solving it, she discovers the maze wasn't the real test, and time is running out. Meanwhile, in the real world, Hy'Rell warns that the Breen are preparing to launch an attack. |
47 |
 |
As Discovery hides from the Breen in the Badlands, Stamets, Adira and Reno devise a plan to protect the Archive, but a few Breen soldiers breach it before they can act. Rayner and Booker fight the Breen inside, with Booker getting injured, forcing Rayner to consider an evacuation plan that might risk Burnham's life. On the dreadnaught, Moll warns the Breen that Ruhn cares nothing for them. In the mindscape, Burnham, overwhelmed, apologizes for her frustrations and admits her fears, failures and vulnerabilities. Avatar Booker reveals that vulnerability was the real test and gives her the next clue's location. |
48 |
 |
With the next clue in hand, Burnham and her team return to Discovery, which positions itself between the Breen dreadnaught and the Archive. Ruhn threatens to destroy the Archive unless Burnham hands over the clue. Tilly assembles the final piece, completing the map to the Progenitors' tech. With the map in their possession, they hand the clues to the Breen. Discovery fakes its destruction and jumps to the tech's coordinates. Despite his promise, Ruhn prepares to destroy the Archive. Moll rallies the soldiers, kills Ruhn with his own staff, and claims command as the wife of the Scion. |
49 |
 |
After a brief but joyful reunion, T'Rina and Saru join President Rillak in a meeting, learning that Tahal plans to take over Ruhn's dreadnaught, seize the Progenitors' technology, and secure control of the Breen Imperium. Saru relays this to Discovery, which is still repairing damage from its battle with Ruhn and preparing to jump from the Badlands. To outpace the Breen, Discovery jumps as close to the tech's location as possible, only to be pulled toward a pair of black holes. Asha expertly navigates the ship to safety, pinpointing the tech's true location. |
50 |
 |
The Progenitors' technology is stored in a large cylindrical structure between two binary black holes. Moll and the Breen pull the cylinder into their cargo bay, but Burnham knows they can't fully access the tech. The crew devises a plan to go undercover, take a shuttle to the Breen ship, and retrieve the cylinder. Despite concerns from Booker and Stamets, Burnham and Rayner agree it's the only viable option. Adira volunteers to hack the Breen computer core, enabling them to transport the cylinder to Discovery. |
51 |
 |
Moll and the Breen scientists examine the cylinder containing the Progenitors' tech, using the combined clues as a key to unlock it. After one scientist is pulled into the structure, another discovers that the cylinder is a portal to extradimensional space. Moll beams L'ak's body into a personal pattern buffer to preserve him until they obtain the tech. On Discovery, Stamets and Culber reassure Adira they're ready for the mission. As the shuttle nears the dreadnaught, Tilly observes that Rayner never sits in the captain's chair. Burnham, Booker, Adira and Rhys arrive on the dreadnaught and begin their retrieval mission. |
52 |
 |
At Federation HQ, Saru volunteers for a diplomatic mission to prevent Tahal's fleet from pursuing the Progenitors' tech. On Moll's dreadnaught, Burnham and Booker reconcile their relationship tensions. Rhys and Adira access the Bridge and start hacking the ship's shield systems. Burnham and Booker defeat two guards outside the shuttle bay, entering just as Breen scientists vanish into the Progenitors' cylinder while tethered to the ship. On Discovery, Tilly encourages Rayner to sit in the captain's chair, reminding him of the crew's trust. |
53 |
 |
As Saru prepares for his mission, he reassures an emotional T'Rina to return safely. On the dreadnaught, Adira hacks the ship's shields and prepares to drop them. Booker distracts a Breen scientist, while Burnham tries to disable the shield around the Progenitors' cylinder. Moll demands credential checks in the shuttle bay. On Discovery, Rayner reveals the ship wasn't destroyed and warns Moll that Tahal is on the way. Moll cuts off communication and captures Booker and Burnham in the shuttle bay before they can beam the cylinder away. |
54 |
 |
Burnham negotiates with Moll, keeping her comms open to Discovery. Rayner deciphers Burnham's coded message: use the ship to damage the shuttle bay and recover the away team and the Progenitors' tech. Discovery attacks and Burnham chases Moll into the cylinder structure. The shuttle bay is destroyed, launching the cylinder into space. Booker, Adira and Rhys beam back to Discovery just before the cylinder explodes, releasing its extradimensional portal. Tilly reports no life signs in the portal, but Booker is confident Burnham has survived. Rayner takes the captain's chair, determined to rescue Burnham and secure the Progenitors' tech. |
55 |
 |
Burnham navigates the extradimensional portal, encountering various environments, including a sunny meadow, hurricane winds and a bridge in the clouds. After a fight with a Breen soldier, she confronts Moll. Burnham heals Moll's wounds and persuades her to lower her weapon, proposing they cooperate to access the Progenitors' tech. Meanwhile, on the damaged Discovery, the crew fights the Breen warships. At Federation HQ, Saru and Nhan volunteer for the diplomatic mission to Tahal's dreadnaught. |
56 |
 |
Burnham and Moll's fragile alliance deteriorates into a fierce battle within the Progenitors' portal. Burnham convinces Moll again that they can escape with the tech if they work together. They locate the tech's access point, a monument guarded by a puzzle. On Discovery, Rayner orders a counterattack against Breen ships, enabling Booker and Culber to launch a rescue mission. Meanwhile, Saru and Nhan begin negotiations with Tahal, but she swiftly rejects Saru's proposal. |
57 |
 |
Discovery neutralizes the Breen attackers, while Booker and Culber use Culber's spiritual insights to secure the Progenitors' portal with a tractor beam, preventing it from falling into the black holes. Meanwhile, Saru adopts a more forceful approach with Tahal, persuading her to withdraw. Inside the portal, Moll knocks out Burnham but becomes trapped. Guided by Booker's communication, Burnham solves the final puzzle and encounters a Progenitor in another realm. The Progenitor reveals they did not create the tech but used it solely to seed life. |

BEDTIME STORIES
From a young age, Michael Burnham cherished life on the space station with her parents, Mike and Gabrielle Burnham. Her father would often soothe her after nightmares with stories, and one of her favorites was "The Girl Who Made the Stars." This ancient legend brought Michael comfort during times of chaos and filled her with hope in the presence of darkness and fear. These stories also nurtured her passion for science and her curiosity about the vast universe around her. |
B2 |
 |
END OF INNOCENCE
After spending her early years on a space station, Michael Burnham and her parents, Mike and Gabrielle, relocated to the distant planet of Doctari Alpha. There, the elder Burnhams worked as scientists on a classified project for Section 31, Starfleet's secretive intelligence division. At Michael's request, the family postponed a planned vacation to Mars, so that she could observe a supernova from the planet's surface. During this delay, Klingons launched an attack on their home. As Michael hid in a cabinet, the Klingons killed her parents.
|
B3 |
 |
NEW BEGINNINGS
After the tragic loss of her parents, Michael Burnham was adopted by Sarek, the Vulcan Ambassador to the Federation, and his wife, Amanda Grayson. They raised Michael as their own daughter alongside their biological son, Spock. Sarek trained Michael in the ancient Vulcan martial art of Suus Mahna, while Amanda nurtured her love for literature by reading from her favorite book, "Alice in Wonderland." Although Spock looked up to his older sister, there was always an emotional distance separating them. Despite this, Spock once used a psychic connection with an entity he referred to as "The Red Angel" to locate Michael when she ran away from home. |
B4 |
 |
VULCAN SCIENCE ACADEMY
As a young adult on Vulcan, Michael Burnham pursued her studies in quantum physics at the esteemed Vulcan Science Academy, where she graduated at the top of her class. Eager to join the Vulcan Expeditionary Group, the planet's elite space exploration organization, she encountered resistance based on her being a human. The group's leadership informed Sarek that they would only admit one of his children - Michael or Spock. Faced with a difficult choice, Sarek chose Spock. For the first time, Michael doubted herself, believing that her perceived personal shortcomings had led to her rejection from the Vulcan Expeditionary Group. |
B5 |
 |
U.S.S. SHENZHOU
After being rejected by the Vulcan Expeditionary Group, Michael Burnham enlisted in Starfleet. Beginning her career as a science officer, she quickly advanced through the ranks, eventually earning the position of commander and becoming the first officer under her mentor, Captain Philippa Georgiou, on the U.S.S. Shenzhou. Among her fellow officers was the Kelpien Saru. While Michael and Saru had a deep mutual respect for one another, their relationship often involved a sibling-like tension. |
B6 |
 |
MUTINY
As the first officer on the U.S.S. Shenzhou, Michael Burnham was deeply loyal to her mentor, Captain Philippa Georgiou. However, the traumatic memory of her parents' murder by Klingon warriors haunted her, leading her to urge the Shenzhou to fire the first shot upon encountering a Klingon vessel. Her conviction was so strong that she committed mutiny against Georgiou, a crime she later confessed to. Tragically, her actions inadvertently led to Georgiou's death during an encounter aboard a Klingon ship. |
B7 |
 |
DISCOVERY
Despite being stripped of her rank and imprisoned for mutiny aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou, Michael Burnham was called back into service during the Klingon War by Captain Gabriel Lorca of the U.S.S. Discovery. She took on the role of a science specialist, aiding in the operation of the ship's unique spore drive and in tracking cloaked Klingon battle cruisers. Aboard the Discovery, she was reunited with Saru, who harbored resentment towards her for the death of their mutual mentor, Philippa Georgiou. However, over time, their relationship healed, and Saru eventually sought her out as a confidant as he underwent the Kelpien transformation known as vahar'ai. |
B8 |
 |
MIRROR UNIVERSE
Captain Lorca of the U.S.S. Discovery was, in fact, a parallel universe version of the Prime Universe's Lorca. He commandeered Discovery to return to his home dimension, the Mirror Universe, with the goal of overthrowing its ruler, Mirror Philippa Georgiou. Posing as her Mirror counterpart - Lorca's former lover and Emperor Georgiou's protégé - Michael Burnham ultimately betrayed Lorca, refusing to witness the death of another Philippa Georgiou. After Georgiou killed Lorca, Burnham brought Mirror Georgiou back to the Prime Universe, where she became a darker, yet protective, mentor to Burnham and found safety from Lorca's followers. |
B9 |
 |
PEACE
Upon returning from the Mirror Universe, Michael Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery rejoined the conflict with the Klingon Empire. Burnham successfully secured political asylum for the Mirror Universe version of her late mentor, Philippa Georgiou, but thwarted Georgiou's plan to commit genocide on the Klingon homeworld, Qo'noS. Following these actions, Michael negotiated a peace treaty with the Klingons, a noble effort that earned her a presidential pardon, the restoration of her rank and position, and the Starfleet Medal of Honor. She then returned to Discovery to continue her service as a science officer. |
B10 |
 |
RED ANGELS
With the Klingon War behind them, Michael Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery encountered Captain Christopher Pike and the U.S.S. Enterprise. Captain Pike informed the crew that he had been temporarily assigned command of Discovery. He enlisted Michael's assistance in tackling two seemingly unrelated missions: unraveling the mystery of seven red signals that appeared at random locations across the galaxy and locating the Enterprise's missing science officer, Spock, Michael's foster brother, who vanished after taking leave. |
B11 |
 |
THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK
With the help of her foster parents, Sarek and Amanda Grayson, Michael Burnham tracked down Spock. He had encountered one of the mysterious Red Angels and, through a mind meld with the entity, witnessed a future where a sentient computer called Control, destroys everything. This horrifying vision triggered an emotional breakdown, leading to accusations of murder and a galaxy-wide pursuit. When Michael finally located Spock, she brought him to the forbidden planet Talos IV. The Talosians agreed to heal Spock's mind in exchange for understanding the source of the rift between him and Michael. Once Spock was cured, Michael and her brother reconciled. |
B12 |
 |
CONTROL
While investigating the red signals in space, Michael Burnham was completely unprepared for the shocking discovery of their source: her mother, Gabrielle, long thought to be dead, who was traveling through time and space to warn against the destructive force of a sentient computer called Control. In the future, Gabrielle witnessed Control annihilate all life. Now, it was up to Michael to stop Control in the present to safeguard the future. Though resolute in her mission, Michael had to say a sorrowful goodbye to her mother once more, as Gabrielle was anchored to a point nearly a thousand years in the future. |
B13 |
 |
FUTURE FLIGHT
Michael Burnham and her brother Spock realized that the only way to prevent Section 31's sentient computer, Control, from annihilating all life was to transport the final piece of its evolutionary puzzle 930 years into the future. Using a time suit similar to her mother's, Michael first traveled to key moments in the past, while appearing as the Red Angel to guide Discovery toward vital clues that would help thwart Control. Before embarking on her final mission, she and Spock shared a heartfelt expression of their love for one another. Michael then used the time suit to lead Discovery 930 years into the future, ultimately saving the universe from destruction. |
B14 |
 |
CLEVELAND BOOKER
Michael Burnham's journey 930 years into the future was a success, as she and the crew of Discovery stopped the sentient computer Control, from destroying the galaxy. However, she found herself in an unfamiliar time and place, feeling like a stranger in a strange land. In this new era, she soon encountered Cleveland "Book" Booker, a 32nd-century courier with empathic abilities. Although their initial meeting was marked by conflict, Michael and Book soon formed a close partnership, both as couriers and as lovers. As she worked alongside him and awaited Discovery's arrival in the future, Michael began to evolve, becoming more confident and bolder, embracing the changes within herself. |
B15 |
 |
THE BURN
A year after arriving in the future, Michael Burnham reunited with the crew of Discovery, ceding command to her longtime friend Saru and taking the lead in investigating an ecological catastrophe known as "The Burn." The Burn, which obliterated all dilithium in the galaxy and caused the destruction of countless starships, had shattered the United Federation of Planets and devastated Starfleet. Joined by her friends, crewmates and her partner, Cleveland Booker, Michael journeyed to Federation Headquarters, where she pledged Discovery and its crew to the service of Starfleet. |
B16 |
 |
REUNIFICATIONS
While investigating the cause of the ecological disaster known as "The Burn," Michael Burnham traveled to Ni'Var, the planet formerly known as Vulcan, to obtain critical research data. She was deeply moved to discover that her brother, Spock, had played a pivotal role in unifying the Vulcan and Romulan peoples. Her emotions were further stirred when she unexpectedly reunited with her mother, Gabrielle. With her mother's assistance, Michael secured the necessary data, leading her to a distant planet rich in dilithium and to a young Kelpien named Su'Kal, who had inadvertently caused the Burn years earlier. |
B17 |
 |
CAPTAIN ON THE BRIDGE
After solving the mystery of the Burn, Michael Burnham hurried back to Federation Headquarters, only to find that an Orion pirate named Osyraa had taken control of Discovery. In a fierce battle, Michael confronted Osyraa, ultimately defeating her and saving both Discovery and Federation headquarters. In recognition of her efforts in uncovering the truth behind the Burn, defeating Osyraa and dismantling the Orion Syndicate's influence in the galaxy, Michael was promoted to the rank of captain and was appointed as the commanding officer of the Discovery. |
B18 |
 |
THE DMA
On her first mission as captain of Discovery, Michael Burnham, along with her partner Cleveland Booker, worked to encourage several planets to join or rejoin the Federation. However, her mission took a dramatic turn when a colossal gravitational distortion, known as the Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA), obliterated several planets, including Book's homeworld, Kwejian. With her new first officer, Saru, by her side, Michael embarked on a quest to uncover the origins of the DMA, and to stop it from causing further destruction. She also tried hard to help Book heal from his devastating loss. |
B19 |
 |
BRINGING HOME, HOME
With the Dark Matter Anomaly posing a grave threat across the galaxy, Michael Burnham remained committed to urging former member worlds to rejoin the United Federation of Planets. Among the most significant was Ni'Var, the planet formerly known as Vulcan. At the invitation of Federation President Laira Rillak, Michael and her first officer Saru negotiated a critical compromise between the government of Ni' Var and the Federation. Their efforts successfully brought one of the Federation's founding planets back into the fold. |
B20 |
 |
DIPLOMACY
Having demonstrated her skill as a negotiator, Michael Burnham was invited to join a diplomatic mission beyond the galaxy's great barrier to engage in talks with the creators of the destructive Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA). The negotiations became increasingly complex when a scientist named Ruan Tarka, with unintended assistance from Cleveland Booker, destroyed the DMA. Michael was devastated when it seemed the DMA's creators had killed Book in retaliation. However, her despair turned to relief when Book reappeared on the planet, using his empathic abilities to aid Michael in the negotiations. Together, they successfully convinced the DMA creators to never use the anomaly as a weapon again. |
B21 |
 |
MOVING ON
Captain Michael Burnham was part of a select group of United Federation of Planets diplomats and Starfleet officers who formally welcomed Earth - once the heart of the Federation - back into the interplanetary alliance. Among the mission's most memorable moments was Michael's meeting with the President of Earth, marking a significant achievement in her efforts to reunite former member worlds with the Federation. This special occasion provided some comfort to Michael, who was grappling with the sadness of having to end her relationship with Cleveland Booker after he was sentenced for his role in the destruction of the Dark Matter Anomaly. Despite the personal loss, Michael remained hopeful as she looked forward to the future. |
B22 |
 |
RED DIRECTIVE
For Michael Burnham, no mission ever seemed too daunting - until she received her first "Red Directive," a cryptic assignment shrouded in secrecy, with only its immense importance to Starfleet, the United Federation of Planets and the galaxy made clear. Michael accepted the challenge, soon finding herself clinging to the outside of a starship at warp speed, chasing down a pair of elusive thieves. The Red Directive tested her leadership even further when her trusted first officer and friend, Saru, left the U.S.S. Discovery to serve as an ambassador. In his place, Michael made the bold decision to appoint the controversial and demoted Captain Rayner as her new Number One. |
B23 |
 |
THE CHASE IS ON
To complete her Red Directive mission, Michael Burnham insisted on learning the confidential details behind it. The enigmatic Dr. Kovich disclosed that the mission's true objective was to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Captain Jean-Luc Picard, tracing a series of clues that would lead to a piece of ancient Progenitor technology used to seed life across the galaxy. Overwhelmed by the mission's immense significance, Michael leaned on the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery, along with her former partner Cleveland Booker, to help recover the most crucial technology in the history of creation. |
B24 |
 |
FACE TO FACE
As Michael Burnham followed the trail of clues leading to the powerful Progenitors' technology, she often found herself confronting her own inner demons - both literally and figuratively. Under the influence of a time anomaly, she engaged in a physical battle with her past, mutinous self. Simultaneously, she navigated a mental labyrinth guided by an avatar of her former lover, Cleveland Booker. Through these encounters, Michael came to terms with the parts of herself she had long tried to ignore. This journey led her to the realization that the Progenitors' technology was too powerful for any one being or species to control - and that she still loved Booker. |
B25 |
 |
MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING
Having found a sense of inner peace she had never fully known, Michael Burnham reconciled with Cleveland Booker, expressing her love and desire for him to stand by her side through all the missions, Red Directives, and the adventures that lay ahead. She also experienced immense joy for her longtime friend, Saru, who had become more like family. Saru married the love of his life, T'Rina, the Vulcan President of Ni Var. Michael realized that her life had come full circle, filled with the same wonder and awe she felt as a child listening to the stories of "The Girl Who Made the Stars." |
B26 |
 |
FAMILY
Several years after her time as Captain of the U.S.S. Discovery, Michael Burnham and her former courier partner, now husband, Cleveland Booker, settled into a peaceful life on the planet Sanctuary Four. In their rustic cabin nestled among the red-leafed woods, Michael and Book shared morning coffee, greeted the local wildlife and, above all, cherished each other's company. They raised a son, Leto - named in honor of Book's nephew who perished when the Dark Matter Anomaly destroyed Kwejian - and embraced the tranquility and simplicity of their new life together. |
B27 |
 |
LET'S FLY
Although now an Admiral, Michael Burnham cherished her time as captain of the U.S.S. Discovery more than any other assignment in her Starfleet career. It was with great pride that she returned to Discovery to send it off on its final mission. Joined by her son, Leto, now a newly-minted Starfleet captain himself, Michael stepped aboard the ship that had been her home for so many years. After a joyful reunion with Discovery's sentient computer, Zora, Michael took a moment to reflect on the friends - her family - who had served alongside her. Sitting in the captain's chair one last time, Michael smiled and said, "Let's fly." |
