To save the galaxy from the sentient computer Control, Michael Burnham travels to the future. Bursting through a wormhole 930 years from her starting point. Burnham arrives in the middle of [a] firefight between a pair of starships. She collides with one of the ships, piloted by a courier named Cleveland Booker. She sends Booker's ship – and herself – crashing into an unknown planet. Surviving the landing, Burnham learns her mission was successful. She then sends her Red Angel suit back through the wormhole to send a confirmation signal to her brother Spock. |
2 |
Stranded on a strange planet in the future, Burnham attempts to contact the U.S.S. Discovery. With no reply, she sets off in search of other life on the planet. Soon, she comes upon Booker's crashed starship. The vessel cloaks as Booker attacks. They fight until Burnham pins him to the ground at phaserpoint. Booker peppers Burnham with questions and reveals that they've crashed on the planet Hima, far from her intended destination, Terralysium. Burnham pleads for his help in contacting Discovery. |
3 |
Booker takes Burnham aboard his ship and tells her that he needs more dilithium to repair the damage from their collision. The only place to get it is at the Mercantile. Burnham offers to let him trade her "antique" tricorder for dilithium in exchange for helping her access the Mercantile's communications array. As they head to the Mercantile, Booker reveals the Federation has fallen as the result of "The Burn." the day when nearly all the dilithium in the galaxy self-destructed. |
4 |
Booker lies his way into the Mercantile, and then abandons Burnham so that he can trade for dilithium. The Mercantile's Andorian and Orion officials capture and interrogate Burham. In a drug-induced mania, Burnham details her journey to the future and her association with Booker. Burnham and her captors soon find Booker brawling with a fellow courier. Burnham and Booker rejoin forces to fight their way out of the Mercantile. They snatch up some dilithium along the way and escape using personal transporters. |
5 |
Pursued by the Mercantile's security officers, Booker and Burnham transport around the planet until arriving outside Booker's ship. After Booker then helps Burnham with her wounds, he soon comes to realize that she is, in fact, a time traveler. Meanwhile, the Mercantile security officers show up and demand that Booker return his stolen cargo. The Mercantile officers then open the ship's cargo hatch, revealing a massive trance worm named Molly, who devours the officers. |
6 |
Burnham tells Booker that she needs to locate her ship. He takes her to a former Federation station, where they meet Aditya Sahil, the son of Starfleet officers who has dutifully manned the station for decades in hopes of reconnecting with Starfleet someday. He fails to locate Discovery, but Burnham gives him his long-sought commission as a Starfleet officer. Together they unfurl a Federation flag, renewing their hope for the future. |
7 |
Discovery exits the time-travel wormhole and crashes onto an icy planet, causing extensive damage to its systems and injuring several crew members. Acting Captain Saru reassures the crew that they will recover and that he will personally survey the damage. But the crew still feels a heavy uncertainty. Though they followed Michael Burnham into the wormhole she is nowhere to be found in this unknown and unfamiliar future. |
8 |
As Saru and Tilly observe the damage throughout the ship, Tilly reports signs of life on the planet, including a settlement with warp-capable ships. Meanwhile, in Sickbay, Dr. Culber awakens Stamets from his medically induced coma to free up his biobed for other injured crew members, while still providing him a different form of treatment. Stamets protests, determined to assist with ship repairs. In the Ready Room, Saru and the senior staff make plans to trade at the planet's settlement for the supplies they need to repair the ship. |
9 |
Although still in tremendous pain, Stamets convinces Culber to let him return to duty. He returns to Engineering where he encounters Jett Reno who insists on assisting with repairs. Meanwhile, Georgiou and Nhan soon discover that their icy surrounding is parasitic, slowly consuming the ship. Elsewhere, Saru and Tilly arrive at the settlement but they are greeted at phaserpoint by some of the locals. Tilly pleads with them to lower their weapons. |
10 |
Saru and Tilly convince the miners to fix their broken transtator in exchange for dilithium, which has become exceedingly scarce. A miner named Kal uses programmable matter to begin repairing the device, but then the warlord named Zareh shows up and complicates the situation. Zareh interrogates Tilly and Saru and soon finds out that Discovery and its crew have traveled through time. Zareh then kills Kal in a show of his power and demands that Saru give him Discovery's dilithium. |
11 |
Zareh and Saru agree to a trade for dilithium. But before Tilly can return to Discovery to retrieve the crystals, Zareh's henchmen capture Georgiou. Zareh tortures Georgiou, but she revels in the moment and remains in control the entire time. Meanwhile, as the sun sets on the planet, the parasitic ice around the ship further threatens Discovery. Inside the ship, Stamets climbs into a [Jefferies] tube to repair a damaged relay. With words of support from Reno and an angry Culber, Stamets pushes through the pain of his reopened wounds and fixes the relay. |
12 |
Saru prevents Georgiou from killing Zareh, who exits the settlement but not without a vow of revenge. Saru promises to deliver enough dilithium to the miners to power their ships. Meanwhile, with Discovery's systems repaired, Lt. Detmer uses the ship's engines to attempt to escape the parasitic ice that has entombed the ship. The attempt fails, but then an unidentified ship appears and pulls Discovery from the ice with a tractor beam. Burnham hails from the mysterious ship, revealing that she has been searching for her friends for over a year. |
13 |
Burnham celebrates a joyous reunion with her friends and explains to them how she had been searching for Discovery for over a year. She simply had arrived in the future ahead of them. She further explains how she joined with Booker and became a Courier in an effort to seek out the cause of the Burn. Burham defers to Saru for the captaincy of Discovery. She soon shares a twelve-year-old recording of a distress call from Earth, hopeful that Discover can jump there and find out more about the Burn. |
14 |
As Burnham adjusts to her return to Discovery, she and Tilly share an emotional reconnection. Booker beams aboard Discovery and becomes awed by the ship's massive collection of dilithium. He warns Burnham that it will make Discovery a target. Burnham asks him him to join the crew on its journey to Earth and help them hide its dilithium aboard his ship. |
15 |
Despite his concerns about Burham's change in perspective, Saru allows Burnham to store Discovery's dilithium reserves in Booker's cloaked ship in Discovery's shuttlebay. Discovery then jumps to Earth where it receives a cold welcome from the United Earth Defense Force. Several UEDF officers transport aboard to conduct an aggressive inspection, doubtful of Saru's cover story that the ship has been in service for nearly a millennium. |
16 |
Aboard Discovery, UEDF Captain Ndoye explains that raiders led by a man named Wen frequently attack Earth, seeking its remaining dilithium. Burnham asks her about Starfleet Admiral Senna Tal who had sent the distress call that drew Discovery to the planet. Ndoye reveals that Tal died two years earlier. Meanwhile, in Engineering, Stamets and Tilly confront Adira, a UEDF officer who is overly curious about the spore drive. Before Adira can learn more, Wen and his raiders attack. |
17 |
As Wen and the raiders bear down on Discovery, Burnham and Booker use his ship to draw Wen out. Burnham and Booker soon capture Wen and bring him aboard Discovery. There, Ndoye and Wen come face-to-face for the first time, revealing that Wen is human. Meanwhile, in Engineering, Stamets confronts Adira, who explains she wants to ion Discovery. Adira adds that she is carrying the Trill symbiont that once belonged to Admiral Senna Tal. |
18 |
Saru and Burnham mediate a tentative peace between Wen and the United Earth Defense Force. In appreciation, Ndoye authorizes Discovery's crew to visit Earth and allows Adira to remain aboard. Burnham confesses she should have told Saru about her plan. Saru agrees but expresses his trust in her. Burnham then accepts the position as Discovery's first officer. As Booker departs, several members of the Discovery crew visit Earth where they find comfort and familiarity in an ancient tree on the grounds of the former Starfleet Academy. |
19 |
Dr. Culber grows concerned about the welfare of the crew, notably their emotional and psychological condition after their journey into the future. He particularly worries about Lt. Detmer, who refuses his help. In Sickbay, Culber finds Adira's Trill symbiont wrapped around her heart. Saru decides to take Adira to the planet Trill where he hopes she will learn how to access the memories of the symbiont's previous hosts and lead Discovery to Federation Headquarters. |
20 |
Dr. Culber convinces a hesitant Burnham to join Adira on her journey to Trill. Upon their arrival, they are greeted by Trill's governing leaders. Despite their initial excitement that a symbiont has returned home, the Trill leaders refuse to help Adira because she is human, not Trill. Meanwhile, in Engineering aboard Discovery, Stamets downplays his injuries and tries to allay Saru's concerns about his being the sole operator of the spore drive. Tilly suggests creating a dark matter interface for the spore drive. an idea rebuffed by Stamets. |
21 |
While being escorted off Trill, Adira and Burnham are attacked by Trill Commissioner Vos, who intends to forcibly remove the symbiont from Adira. Burnham stuns Vos and his guards as Guardian Xi arrives and takes Adira and Burnham to the symbiont's ancestral caves. Adira steps into a pool to commune with the other symbionts. Meanwhile on Discovery, Culber advises Saru about the crew's mental health. To boost morale, Saru hosts a special dinner for the bridge crew, but tensions boil over during dinner, particularly between Stamets and Detmer. |
22 |
Commissioner Vos and Leader Pev arrive in the Trill caves just as Adira disappears. Burnham enters the pool searching for her. With the help of the Trills' neural stabilizers, Burnham finds Adira and her symbiont. She guides Adira through her fears of connecting with the symbiont's memories. Adira sees Gray, her boyfriend and previous host of the Tal symbiont, reliving the happy times of their relationship until their ship was attacked, gravely wounding Gray. |
23 |
In her memories, Adira relives the last moments of Gray's life and her volunteering to host the Tal symbiont. The experience unlocks the memories of all the Tal symbiont's former hosts, including Admiral Senna Tal and the location of Federation Headquarters. Adira speaks the names of the previous hosts, earning the acceptance of the Trill governing leaders. She declines Leader Pev's offer to mentor her in her new life as a Trill host, and Adira chooses to return to Discovery. |
24 |
Tilly joins a discouraged Saru in the Ready Room, complimenting his efforts to help unify and reconnect with the crew. An apologetic Stamets joins them and asks Tilly to help him develop a new spore drive interface. Detmer seeks Dr. Culber's help in healing from her trauma before joining the rest of the crew in the Shuttlebay for a joyous movie night. Meanwhile, in her quarters, Adira plays the cello and speaks with Gray, who now appears before her. |
25 |
Discovery arrives at Federation Headquarters, where the crew is awed by advancements in technology and the fleet of Starships. Burnham has prepared Discovery's logs to turn over to Starfleet and expresses her hope that they'll learn more about the Burn and her mother's whereabouts. Saru, Burnham and Adira beam over to headquarters where the meet Admiral Charles Vance, Starfleet's Commander-in-Chief. |
26 |
Admiral Vance learns the syndicate of Andorian and Orion pirates known as the Emerald Chain has made several bold attacks in recent days. While debriefing Saru and Burnham, Vance refuses to share intelligence about the Burn and informs them that the Temporal Accords make their time travel a crime. He tells them that Discovery will be requisitioned and
retro-fitted and that its crew will be debriefed to confirm their claims. |
27 |
During her debriefing, Georgiou causes her holographic interrogators to shut down. She is intrigued by her glasses-wearing human interrogator, Kovich. In Federation Headauarters' Sickbay, Vance informs Saru and Burnham that Kili refugees are dying from exposure to a toxic plant. Their holographic doctor Eli requires a healthy sample of the plant to create an antidote. Vance authorizes Burnham to use Discovery's spore drive and crew to find the U.S.S. Tikhov. [A] ship that holds samples they could use. |
28 |
Discovery pulls the Tikhov from an ion storm. The caretakers of the Tikhov's seed vault are Barzan, like Commander Nhan, who joins Burnham and Culber on the away mission. On the Tikhov, they find plants growing wildly as well as a hologram of a Barzan family singing a melody Burnham had heard Adira play on the cello days before. Meanwhile, at Federation Headquarters, Georgiou is shocked to learn from Kovich that there hasn't been a crossover from her universe in five hundred years, leaving her as the sole Terran in the galaxy. |
29 |
As Nhan reviews Barzan Dr. Attis' logs aboard the Tikhov, Culber discovers the frozen remains of the rest of the Attis family. Burnham attempts to unlock the seed vault, but she's attacked by Dr. Attis, whose body transitions in and out of phase. Stamets, Reno and Tilly use the transporter to stabilize Attis' body. Nhan and Burnham plead with Attis for the seeds they need to save the Kili. He gives them the seeds but refuses Discovery's medical aid, not wanting to leave his family. |
30 |
Nhan chooses to leave Discovery and command the Tikhov, ensuring Dr. Attis and his family will receive a proper Barzan burial. At Federation Headquarters, Admiral Vance hesitantly agrees to return Discovery to active duty with its crew intact. Back aboard the ship, Burnham encounters an almost-catatonic Georgiou, who chastises Burnham when she awakens. Burnham and Saru reflect on the state of the Federation, with Saru asking Burnham to be more careful in her interactions with Admiral Vance, particularly about the Burn. |
31 |
As Discovery receives a 32nd century retrofit, Admiral Vance orders Saru to prepare to jump to Argeth, if the Emerald Chain attacks. As the crew adjusts to their futuristic new equipment, they receive a recorded message from Booker. He has learned about a black box that may contain more information about the Burn. His message warns that if Burnham hasn't heard from him, he was likely captured searching for the black box. However due to Vance's orders, Saru denies Burnham's request to mount a rescue mission. |
32 |
Burnham defies orders and recruits Georgiou on a mission to rescue Booker. As they travel in Booker's ship to the planet Hunhau, Georgiou has haunting visions of a traumatic incident from her past in the Terran Empire. She comes out of the vision in time to negotiate landing rights with an Orion named Tolor. Emerald Chain leader Osyraa's nephew, who runs the salvage yard where Booker is being held. On Discovery, Tilly finds Booker's cat Grudge in her quarters and realizes Burnham has left the ship. |
33 |
Burnham and Georgiou pose as scavengers looking for scrap starship material. They find Booker working in a salvage yard with an Andorian named Ryn. Georgiou distracts Tolor by complimenting him on his harsh rule over the prisoners, while Burnham connects with Booker. They develop a plan to free Booker and his fellow prisoners. Meanwhile, on Discovery, Adira shows Stamets the new spore drive interface that no longer requires him to use the shunts in his forearms to jump the ship. |
34 |
Saru confronts Tilly over Burnham's whereabouts and confesses his distrust of her. Tilly advises Saru to inform Vance of Burnham's insubordination. On Hunhau, Tolor captures Burnham and Georgiou and takes them back to Booker's ship to pilfer their dilithium. In the salvage yard, Booker and Ryn cause a riot allowing numerous prisoners to head for their escape. Georgiou overcomes another traumatic flashback in time to shut down the salvage yard's security perimeter, facilitating the prisoners' escape. |
35 |
Safely back aboard his ship, Booker gives Burnham the black box containing new information about the Burn. She reassures him that Discovery's medical staff will help Ryn recover from his injuries sustained in the escape. Later, Georgiou confesses to Burnham that her traumatic flashbacks of the Terran Universe have been haunting her for weeks. On Discovery, Stamets sits with Adira in the ship's mess hall and learns that Adira can somehow still see and communicate with Gray. |
36 |
After leaving Ryn in the watchful care of Discovery's medical staff, Burnham and Booker share an emotional kiss in the turbolift. Meanwhile, Stamets confesses to Dr. Culber that he initially reached out to Adira because he found a kindred spirit in her, but now feels a deeper connection. Meanwhile, Admiral Vance issues a stark rebuke to Burnham for her insubordination, and Saru demotes her from her position as First Officer, expressing his profound disappointment and loss of trust. |
37 |
Burnham and Tilly analyze the data from the black box Booker recovered on Hanhau. The starships destroyed by the Burn exploded at different times, and Burnham believes it's the key to unlocking the secrets of the Burn. She also discovers top secret Burn research known as SB-19. Admiral Vance reveals that SB-19 was a project conducted by the people of Ni'Var, the home planet of the unified Vulcans and Romulans, and denies Burnham access to it. |
38 |
The people of Ni'Var believe the Federation forced them to cause the Burn through their research into warp speed. With that background, Vance orders Burnham to approach Ni'Var in her position as Spock's sister. Hesitant about the assignment, Burnham allows herself to learn what happened to her brother. Inspired by Spock's achievements, she agrees to contact NiVar. Elsewhere on Discovery, Saru asks Tilly to serve as his acting First Officer. Overwhelmed, Tilly promises to consider it. |
39 |
Arriving at Ni'Var, Discovery receives a cold reception from the planet's president, T'Rina. Though honored by Burnham's presence, T'Rina denies the Federation's request for the SB-19 data. As a graduate of the Vulcan Science Academy, Burnham calls for the T'Kal-in-ket, a philosophical ceremony designed to unearth deep truths. T'Rina and her quorum beam aboard Discovery followed by Burnham's qalankhkai, her ceremonial advocate. The qalankhkai is revealed to be her mother, Gabrielle Burnham, a member of the Romulan order Qowat Milat, who live by the principles of "absolute candor." |
40 |
As Saru extends a diplomatic hand to President T'Rina, Gabrielle and Michael reconnect. Gabrielle speaks plainly to her daughter – that her chances in the T'Kal-in-ket are nearly impossible. Later, in the T'Kal-in-ket, Burnham invokes Spock's name to challenge the quorum's concerns about SB-19. Gabrielle calls for a brief recess. In Engineering, Tilly tells Stamets about Saru's offer. Stamets expresses surprise, saying it would be "weird" to have Tilly as his superior officer. |
41 |
Gabrielle advises Michael to be more forthright with her feelings of uncertainty surrounding not only SB-19 but also her place in the galaxy. As the ceremony resumes, Michael resists speaking the full truth until Gabrielle reveals her compromised emotions. Michael admits she fears losing everything and everyone in her life. She withdraws her request for SB-19, looking to protect the peace of Ni'Var, rather than reopen the wounds the experiment caused among the Vulcans and Romulans. |
42 |
Following the T'Kal-in-ket, Gabrielle informs Michael that President T'Rina trusts her and will grant her access to the SB-19 data. Mother and daughter share an emotional goodbye. In Engineering, Tilly finds Stamets and the bridge crew, who all encourage her to accept Saru's offer to serve as Discovery's acting First Officer. Meanwhile, President T'Rina expresses appreciation to Saru, and remains hopeful that, in time, the relationship between the Federation and Ni'Var may heal their relationship. |
43 |
Booker gets called to his home planet Kwejian. Years ago, the Burn caused sea locusts to emerge and ravage their harvest, but Osyraa and the Emerald Chain provided a repellent, saving the planet, in exchange for their trance worms. Now, the Emerald Chain returns, causing Admiral Vance hesitantly to authorize Discovery to carry Booker home but with orders not to engage with Osyraa and the Emerald Chain. |
44 |
Using the data from NiVar and Burnham's black boxes, Stamets and Adira locate the Burn's point of origin: deep in the Verubin Nebula. They isolate an audio signal from the nebula and are shocked to learn it is the same musical phrase the crew heard on the Tikhov and that Adria played on the cello. They filter out the music and hear a Federation distress signal. Adira writes an algorithm to decode the distress signal. Adira also requests to be addressed in the future as they/them instead of she/her. |
45 |
Booker and Burnham beam down to Kwejian with explicit orders to return to the ship the second anything goes wrong. Booker uses his abilities to part a swarm of sea locusts. Moments later, he and Burnham are surrounded by armed guards led by Booker's brother Kyheem. On Discovery, Dr. Pollard and Dr. Culber run a series of tests on Georgiou's brain, hoping to discover the source of her visions. Meanwhile, Ryn confronts Saru demanding to be released from Discovery. |
46 |
Osyraa arrives at Kwejian, demanding Discovery return Ryn to her. Saru's diplomatic efforts fail to sway Osyraa who threatens to destroy the planet. On Kwejian, Booker and Kyheem argue about their planet's submissiveness to the Emerald Chain. Osyraa contacts Kyheem, insisting he turn over Booker and Burnham as hostages. When Kyheem refuses, she attacks the planet. Saru orders Discovery to protect the planet as Booker and Burnham try to find safety. |
47 |
Detmer and Ryn use Booker's ship to attack Osyraa's vessel and knock out its weapons, ensuring that Discovery maintains the Federation's neutrality. However, the attack earns Osyraa's wrath, as she promises to bring the full force of the Emerald Chain on the Federation. On the planet's surface, Kyheem attacks Booker. Burnham pleads with the brothers to stop fighting. The two brothers end their hostilities. |
48 |
Burnham uses Discovery to amplify the electromagnetic signals among the sea locusts, allowing Kyheem and Booker to repel them back to the water. The brothers reconcile while touring Discovery with Kyheem's son. Booker confides in Burnham that he wants to assist Discovery and the Federation in their mission. Meanwhile, Ryn reveals that the Emerald Chain is running out of dilithium, giving the Federation a tactical advantage. |
49 |
Determined to figure out a cure for Georgiou's blackouts, Dr. Culber seeks out Kovich, who explains that Georgiou's body is tearing itself apart due to her time travel and her origin from a parallel universe. Culber and Kovich learn that a cure for Georgiou's condition can be found on the planet Dannus V. Admiral Vance approves the mission, despite a looming threat from Osyraa and the Emerald Chain. |
50 |
Although she initially refuses a possible cure for her condition, Georigiou beams down to Dannus V with Burnham. They traverse the icy landscape to a location where a cure may be found. On board Discovery, Stamets corrects an error in Adira's algorithm. Adira confesses they're angry with Gray who has disappeared and is no longer speaking to them. Meanwhile, Booker approaches a hesitant Saru about joining Discovery as an informant. |
51 |
Burnham and Georgiou reach the cure's coordinates and find an elderly gentleman reading a newspaper sitting next to a mysterious door. Calling himself Carl, he reveals the newspaper is tomorrow's news, with its headline reading: "Emperor Georgiou Dies Horribly Painful Death." He tells them the door holds the answers Georgiou seeks. Aboard Discovery, Adira's algorithm decodes a distress signal – a message from a [Kelpien] woman who died decades earlier from radiation in the Verubian Nebula. |
52 |
Georgiou walks through the mysterious door, finding herself back in the Mirror Universe, on the day Mirror Burnham and Mirror Lorca betrayed her. After her experiences in the Prime Universe, Georgiou believes she can change Mirror Burnham's path and save them both. Mirror Burnham soon arrives, reporting on her brutal triumphs in her months away from Georgiou. Close by, a Mirror [Kelpien] servant spills some food on Mirror Landry's boots leading to his execution. Georgiou notices Mirror Saru, a slave in this universe assisting his ill-fated friend. |
53 |
Mirror Burnham threatens Mirror Saru with execution, but Georgiou intercedes, claiming him as her personal servant. While he grooms Georgiou, she asks him for his insight into Mirror Burnham's assassination plans. Mirror Saru reveals Mirror Burnham believes Georgiou has changed, becoming soft. Georgiou promises to show Mirror Burnham her strength. That night, Georgiou attends a performance in her honor. She addresses her subjects, killing Mirror Stamets to prevent his attempt on her life. |
54 |
In a corridor, Mirror Tilly and a group of security officers surround Mirror Burnham. Georgiou reveals she knows everything about her and Mirror Lorca's assassination plans. She offers to spare Mirror Burnham's life in exchange for a confession. Mirror Burnham happily admits her betrayal kneeling before Georgiou, awaiting her execution. Georgiou draws her sword, but stops short of killing Mirror Burnham, calling it "the easy way." Instead, she orders Mirror Burnham to be placed in the Agonizer Booth, with their futures now unwritten. |
55 |
In the brig aboard the I.S.S. Discovery, Mirror Burnham demands Georgiou kill her as the law requires. Georgiou refuses, insisting Mirror Burnham choose to follow a more peaceful path. Mirror Burnham spits in Georgiou's face, warning that a group of planets intend to overthrow the Terran Empire. Georgiou ignores the warning. Mirror Tilly promises Georgiou that she will root out Mirror Burnham's accomplices, starting with Mirror Lt. Detmer. |
56 |
Mirror Tilly again tortures Mirror Burnham in the Agonizer Booth, demanding her allegiance to Georgiou and the names of her co-conspirators. Later, Mirror Detmer visits Mirror Burnham in the brig, informing her that Mirror Lorca has disappeared, leaving Mirror Burnham's assassination plans in shambles. She pleads with Mirror Burnham to give in and save her life. After Georgiou tells a sleeping Mirror Burnham stories from her childhood, Mirror Burnham relents, promising to stand by Georgiou's side and execute her co-conspirators. |
57 |
Mirror Burnham executes her co-conspirators and many others, proving her loyalty to Georgiou. Georgiou asks Mirror Burnham a series of questions about Mirror Lorca which she answers and promises to kill her former lover. That night, Mirror Saru reveals he is undergoing vahar'ai and asks Georgiou to cull him. She refuses and tells him the story of the Prime Universe Saru whose experience with vahar'ai made him stronger. |
58 |
The I.S.S. Discovery brings Duggan, one of Mirror Lora's allies, aboard. He warns Georgiou not to trust Mirror Burnham, who kills him before turning her phaser on Georgiou. A fierce firefight breaks out that ends with Georgiou and Mirror Burnham stabbing each other. Georgiou watches Mirror Burnham die as Mirror Saru holds her in his arms. Georgiou closes her eyes, suddenly finding herself alive on Dannus V with Carl and the Prime Universe's Burnham. The headline on Carl's newspaper has changed: "Emperor Georgiou's Fate Uncertain." |
59 |
Carl explains that a version of Georgiou was in the Terran Universe for three months and died there. She was sent there to see if she would make different choices if she relived her life as Emperor. He opens the space-time portal known as the Guardian of Forever, offering to send Georgiou back to a time when the Mirror and Prime Universes were still aligned, thus curing her illness. Burnham and Georgiou share an emotional goodbye as Georgiou steps through the portal. |
60 |
Aboard Discovery, Booker helps Stamets, Adira and Reno use Emerald Chain communication relays to link their sensors to the [Kelpien] ship lost in the [Verubin] Nebula. Vance expresses his concerns about the tactic, encouraging Booker to follow Starfleet protocols moving forward. Later, the crew gathers to pay tribute to Georgiou. Burnham toasts her mentor and friend, calling her a gift she both loved and hated, sometimes at the same time. |
61 |
Stamets finds a life sign aboard the Kelpian ship in the Verubin Nebula, despite the distress signal being 125 years old. Saru explains that the [Kelpien] female from the message was pregnant and that the life sign must be her child. Discovery jumps to the Nebula but can't venture further in because of the Nebula's massive amounts of radiation. Booker takes his ship deeper into the Nebula, finding the crashed [Kelpien] ship on a planet rich with dilithium. |
62 |
Saru reports the ship's findings to Admiral Vance, who expresses concern about Saru joining the away team. Vance also informs Saru that Osyraa and the Emerald Chain are conducting military exercises at Kaminar to draw Saru and Discovery to her in order to steal the spore drive. Saru offers to jump to Kaminar, but Vance directs him to rescue the [Kelpien] on the dilithium planet. Later, Tilly confides in Burnham that she is nervous about her first time commanding the ship. Burnham reassures her, boosting her confidence. |
63 |
Saru, Burnham and Culber beam down to the dilithium planet. They have four hours to accomplish their mission before the radiation levels become too dangerous. They materialize in the crashed [Kelpien] ship where they find a holo-program running. The program, designed to teach and protect the [Kelpien] survivor, has altered all of their appearances, making each of them appear to be a different species: Culber a Bajoran, Burnham a Trill and Saru a human. The program has also hidden their weapons and supplies, including their radiation medication. |
64 |
Aboard Discovery, Stamets, Adira and Gray work to fix the shields so the ship can jump safely back into the Nebula to beam the away team back. Before they can return to the Nebula, however, Osyraa's vessel arrives, threatening Discovery. On the planet, Saru and Culber explore the holo-program, learning the [Kelpien] survivor has been waiting for them. Burnham encounters the now-grown [Kelpien] child, Su'Kal, who thinks she's a new hologram. |
65 |
Saru and Culber encounter a [Kelpien] elder who tells them Su'Kal hides in his fortress when he is afraid. There is nothing scarier to Su'Kal than the monster who guards a locked door in the program. To be free from the program, Su'Kal must confront this greatest fear. Saru, Culber and Burnham witness Su'Kal encounter the monster from his story. He lets out a terrified scream that sends a small shockwave into space. The wave strikes Discovery and Osyraa's ship, briefly destabilizing the ships' dilithium, just like the Burn. |
66 |
As Discovery prepares to jump away from Osyraa, Booker flies his ship into the Nebula to rescue the away team. Before Discovery can jump, Osyraa's regulators invade the ship, capturing Stamets. On the dilithium planet, Saru calms Su'Kal with a [Kelpien] lullaby. Culber realizes the exposure to the dilithium and radiation altered Su'Kal's DNA, turning his screams of terror into shockwaves that travelled through subspace, causing the Burn. As Burnham leaves on Booker's ship, Saru and Culber stay behind to help Su'Kal. |
67 |
Her capture of Discovery seeminaly comolete, Osyraa jumps to Federation Headquarters. With her ship posing as an attacker she tricks Vance into allowing Discovery into headquarters. Osyraa holds the bridge crew hostage in the Ready Room where they encounter the warlord Zareh, who works for Osyraa. He orders the Emerald Chain regulators not to harm any of the hostages, includina the Andorian Ryn. Meanwhile, Booker and Burnham exit a transwarp tunnel and crash into Discovery's shuttle bay, just as it enters Federation Headquarters. |
68 |
Osyraa dispatches Zareh to capture Booker and Burnham. Osyraa then orders her most trusted scientist, Invigilator Aurellio, to figure out how the spore drive works. Booker lets himself get captured by Zareh's regulators, allowing Burnham to search the ship for Stamets. In headquarters, Admiral Vance realizes Osyraa is aboard Discovery. He orders all ships to train their weapons on Discovery, until Osyraa requests to open peace negotiations between the Federation and the Emerald Chain. |

Wounded by a regulator, Burnham crawls through a Jeffries tube. Determined to find and free Stamets, she also sends a distress call to Ni'Var. In the Ready Room, the bridge crew use Morse Code to send signals to each other, distracting the regulators long enough for the crew to subdue them and escape. Meanwhile, Vance welcomes Osyraa to the negotiating table where she will be observed by hologram Dr. Eli, who will function as a real-time lie detector. |
70 |
Aurellio removes Stamets' neuro-locks and interrogates Stamets about his tardigrade DNA and spore drive functionality. Elsewhere, Burnham crawls through the Jefferies tubes, escaping Zareh's regulators. She ties herself to a beam before opening an airlock, blasting the regulators into space. At headquarters, Osyraa proposes a unification between the Federation and the Emerald Chain. Vance demands the Emerald Chain withdraw from the planets they've invaded. Osyraa accepts, presenting Vance with an armistice agreement to consider. |
71 |
Tilly leads the bridge crew to retake Discovery. In Engineering, Aurellio continues studying Stamets and the spore drive. He defends Osyraa's tactics, believing her to be a figure of nobility. Stamets argues Osyraa is actually a terrorist and murderer. Burnham arrives, stunning Aurellio and his guards. She stops Stamets from jumping Discovery back to the Verubin Nebula with a Vulcan nerve pinch. Meanwhile, Vance tells Osyraa the armistice depends on her being tried for her crimes. Osyraa refuses, ending the negotiations. |
72 |
With negotiations failed, Osvraa returns to Discovery where she finds Booker and Ryn captured and orders Zareh to find Burnham. Osyraa kills Ryn for refusing to fix the ship's sensors and demands Aurellio use a truth serum on Booker to find the dilithium planet. In Engineering, Burnham ejects Stamets in an escape pod to prevent Osyraa from accessing the spore drive. Elsewhere, the bridge crew collects weapons from the armory before encountering a aroup of DOT-23 robots that have arrived to help take back the ship. |
73 |
Having stowed away on Booker's ship when he rescued Burnham, Adira beams into the crashed [Kelpien] ship. Appearing as a Xahaen, Adira gives radiation medicine to Dr. Culber and Saru. A Vulcan-looking Gray also joins the group, made visible by the holo-program. At Federation Headquarters, countless Starfleet ships fire on Discovery. Osyraa demands Aurellio pull the location of the dilithium planet from Booker's mind and cuts off life support to the lower decks. |
74 |
As Discovery breaks out of Federation Headquarters, a rescue fleet from Ni'Var arrives. Captured by Zareh and Osyraa, Burnham convinces Vance to let Discovery return with Osyraa's ship to the Verubin Nebula. Osyraa forces Burnham to watch Aurellio torture Booker to retrieve the dilithium planet's coordinates. In the holo-program, Saru bonds with Su'Kal, helping him understand the Burn and the universe outside the program in which he lives. He reveals he is the long-awaited Starfleet rescuer Su'Kal's mother promised would come. |
75 |
Burnham frees Booker from Oysraa's torture and heads for the ship's computer core. In the lower decks, Tilly translates a coded message from Burnham into a plan to damage Discovery's nacelles, dropping the ship out of warp. Meanwhile, as Saru continues teaching Su'Kal about the universe outside the [Kelpien] ship, the holo-program deteriorates from the radiation. Saru pleads with Su'Kal to enter the locked room and face his fears. |
76 |
The bridge crew collapses from lack of oxygen, leaving only Owosekun to carry the bomb to the nacelles. With help from a DOT-23. Owosekun explodes the bomb, dropping the ship out of warp. Meanwhile, Booker kills Zareh in the turbolift tunnels as Burnham arrives at the computer core, where she finds Osyraa waiting for her. Osyraa drives her into the core, but Burnham shoots her way out, killing Osyraa. She resets Discovery's computer systems, restoring life support to her friends. |
77 |
Burnham calls the crew to assemble on the bridge where she reveals Booker's empathic abilities will allow him to communicate with the mycelial network and jump Discovery back to the Verubin Nebula. On the dilithium planet, Su'Kal leads the group into the locked room. He ends the holo-program, causing Gray to disappear. Su'Kal relives watching his mother die, subsequently causing the Burn. Heartbroken, he finds safety in Saru, who has returned to his [Kelpien] appearance. |
78 |
Discovery ejects its warp core, destroying Osyraa's ship before jumping to the dilithium planet. They beam Saru, Culber, Adira and Su'Kal aboard as the [Kelpien] ship dissolves. The crew returns to Federation Headquarters where Burnham learns that the Emerald Chain has fallen and the Federation is regrowing. Saru leaves Discovery for Kaminar to mentor Su'Kal and Vance commissions Burnham as Discovery's new captain. Sitting in the center seat, Burnham gives her first order as master of the vessel: "Let's fiy!' |

DOT-23
Enhanced worker robots used by the Federation for a variety of tasks, the DOT-23s assisted in the 32nd century refit of Discovery. The DOT-23 succeeded the DOT-7, which were standard issue on Federation ships in the 23rd century. The DOT-23s helped the crew take the ship back from Osyraa's Emerald Chain mercenaries by hiding the Sphere data within themselves. |
T2 |
Emergency Escape Field
When Federation vessels were in crisis and crew members needed to evacuate quickly from a ship, they used an emergency escape field. This personal energy shield enveloped the individual's body, providing life support and protection from the hazards of space. Burnham put one on Stamets before ejecting him from the ship. |
T3 |
Programmable matter
Made up of minute nanomolecules, programmable matter was a transformative material that could assume any form and become any type of technology. It adapted to its user, creating an extremely accessible and personalized user experience. Upon arrival in the 32nd century, Discovery was retrofitted with programmable matter. To help Discovery's crew adapt to programmable matter, Federation engineers made the upgraded ship look like it had before. |
T4 |
Phasers
Made of programmable matter, the 32nd century Starfleet phaser was a powerful weapon. Starfleet officers held their phasers in a small oval device connected to the wrist of their uniforms. When an officer motioned like he was drawing his weapon from a holster, the programmable matter formed a phaser. Senior officers' phasers were white, while junior officers' versions were gray. |
T5 |
Detached Nacelles
As part of Discovery's 32nd century retrofit, the ship's warp nacelles were removed and replaced with new, detached nacelles Made of programmable matter, these nacelles were connected to the ship through energy struts that retracted when the ship employed its spore drive. According to Captain Saru, the detached nacelles made Discovery more maneuverable and more efficient in flight. |
T6 |
Tricom Delta Badges
More than just a communicator, the 32nd century Starfleet delta badge filled several purposes. Each officer's badge served as an immediately accessible tricorder, holographic projector and PADD, while still working as a communication device and universal translator. Each function was accessed by a series of taps. It was the ultimate Starfleet utility tool. |
T7 |
Portable Transporter
Far more advanced than the traditional transporter device housed within a ship, portable transporters were small devices that could be worn by their users. They worked instantly, materializing their users in different locations within seconds. Though they required 30 seconds to recharge, they were extremely effective. Starfleet officers housed their portable transporters in their multi-purpose delta badge. These transportors could be tracked by others, except when used underwater. |
T8 |
Planetary Defense System
Following the Burn and the subsequent subsidence of the United Federation of Planets, many of the Federation's former member worlds developed defensive technologies that protected their home planets. Planets such as Earth and Ni'Var utilized orbital satellites to cast force fields over their entire globes. They also used vessels armed with advanced weaponry, including quantum torpedoes. |
T9 |
Nanogel Spore Drive Interface
Adira Tal was fascinated by Discovery's spore drive. After careful study, the ship's Engineering team altered the spore drive's interface using nanogel, a substance that acted as a quantum transducer, changing energy at a quantum level. This upgrade allowed Stamets to perform a jump without having to connect to the drive via cybernetic ports in his arms. It also allowed others, like Cleveland Booker, the ability to execute a jump. |
