Brother

1 1 In a flashback, young Michael Burnham finds herself rejected by her new foster brother, Spock. Back in the present, Captain Pike, Commander Nhan and Lieutenant Connolly beam aboard the U.S.S. Discovery from the U.S.S. Enterprise, which has suffered catastrophic system failures. Starfleet has sent Pike to take command of the Discovery and investigate a musterious "red burst" in space. 2 2 Pike explains that the red burst – one of seven detected – may be a signal. When the Enterprise tried to scan it, the computer went haywire "like a compass at the North Pole," Burnham notes. Meanwhile, Lt. Commander Stamets tells Ensign Tilly with sadness that he's unwilling to stay aboard Discovery without Dr. Culber; he's accepted a teaching position on Vulcan. 3 3 As Discovery heads for the anomaly, Ambassador Sarek informs Burnham that he will be working with Starfleet to decipher the signals. They discuss Spock, Enterprise's science officer; Burnham is disappointed that he didn't come aboard Discovery with Pike. Arriving at the signal's coordinates, Discovery finds a debris field and a gravity well. The crew detects a crashed Starleet vessel on an asteroid.
4 4 Pike, Burnham, Connolly and Nhan descend in lander pods to search for survivors of the crashed U.S.S. Hiawatha. Connolly doesn't make it through the debris field, and Burnham barely saves Pike from a similar fate. The three surviving officers meet Commander Jett Reno, who's been caring for injured crewmates since a Klingon attack 10 months ago. She is surprised to learn the Klingon war is over. 5 5 The landing party prepares the Hiawatha transporter as the asteroid's gravitational energy grows volatile. Everyone beams to Discovery but Burnham, who suffers an injury; she sees an angelic entity before Pike returns for her. Burnham grabs a piece of the asteroid for Tilly to study, but it fails to transport. leading the two women to conclude later that the asteroid contains dark matter. 6 6 Tilly captures a piece of the asteroid in the shuttle bay, while Burnham, her Sickbay treatment complete, confers with Pike. He's staying on to investigate the red burst signals. Later, Burnham visits Spock's quarters on the Enterprise. Spock's on leave, but Burnham learns from his personal log that old nightmares have returned. His "vision," encoded in the file, depicts the mysterious red bursts.

New Eden

7 7 Burnham plays Spock's log about the red bursts for Pike, who agrees they should talk to Spock — but he's checked himself into a psychiatric unit. They're called to the bridge when a new signal is detected. Tilly and Burnham locate the distant source, and Pike decides they must use the spore drive. Reluctantly, Stamets enters the reaction cube, and the ship jumps to the coordinates. 8 8 Discovery finds a planet with pre-warp human settlements; one that is transmitting a 200-year-old distress call. Mindful of the Prime Directive, Pike, Burnham and Lt. Owosekun beam down. They meet Jacob Amesha, and the other citizens of New Eden, who welcome the "visitors from the North" in a church ceremony. Back on Discovery, Tilly is injured while pursuing a new spore drive interface. 9 9 As Tilly recovers in Sickbay, the crew discovers that radioactive particles from the planet's outer ring are falling to the surface and will trigger a nuclear winter in 64 minutes. Meanwhile, Pike's team learns that an "angel" appeared to the villagers' ancestors during Earth's World War llI and delivered them to Terralysium. Burnham connects their angel to the entity she saw on the asteroid.
10 10 Owosekun finds the villagers' beacon in the church basement. Pike wants to shut it off and leave, but they're discovered by Jacob, who realizes they're off-worlders. He knocks them out with a stun grenade and takes their devices. Back on Discovery, an ensign helps Tilly work the problem of the radioactive debris. She rushes to the bridge with a plan to use her captive asteroid to save Terralysium. 11 11 Led by Tilly, Stamets, and Lt. Detmer, the crew launches the dark-matter asteroid on a trajectory that diverts the debris from the planet. In New Eden, the Starfleet officers find Jacob arguing with Amesha about their equipment. Pike saves a young girl from accidentally shooting herself and takes a phaser blast to the chest, forcing Burnham to call Discovery for a hasty beam-out. 12 12 As Pike recovers. Burnham tells him about her angel sighting. Their talk prompts Pike to return to the planet to visit Jacob. He tells Jacob of the advances mankind has made over the last 200 years and gifts him a power cell in exchange for the helmet camera worn by one of the
"first saved" soldiers. Later, Pike reviews the camera footage and sees the angel. Meanwhile, Tilly learns that May Ahearn, the ensign who helped her save Terralysium, died years ago.

Point of Light

13 13 May plaques Tilly as she runs a half marathon: Tilly begins to doubt her own sanity. Meanwhile, Amanda Grayson comes aboard Discovery on a personal mission to help Spock. On Qo'noS, Chancellor L'Rell and her Torchbearer, Ash Tyler, introduce the D7 battle cruiser to the leaders of the Great Houses. Kol-Sha ridicules Tyler and his union with L'Rell, inciting Tyler to wipe the paint from his face. 14 14 Privately, cracks appear in L'Rell's relationship with Tyler, who worries that he's hurting her ability to lead. On Discovery, Amanda tells Burnham that Starfleet prevented her from seeing Spock on Starbase 5, so she stole her son's medical file. After Pike learns that Spock has fled the psvchiatric hospital and is wanted for murder, he orders Burnham to break into the encrpted file. 15 15 Spock's file contains his drawings of the Red Angel, which he began seeing when he was a boy. "It changed him," Amanda tells Burnham. Michael steps away to take a call from Tyler, who warns that L'Rell's support among her people is faltering. On the bridge, May badgers Tilly until the ensign makes a scene. On Qo'noS, L'Rell's Uncle Ujilli shows Tyler a secret: his infant son with L'Rell.
16 16 L'Rell admits to Tyler that she kept their son secret because she expects Tyler to leave eventually. He disagrees, declaring his devotion to them both. They try to bring the child home but find that Kol-Sha has murdered Ujilli and taken the infant. Kol-Sha wants L'Rell to cede control of the empire to him. When they meet at L'Rell's residence, Tyler and the Chancellor fight Kol-Sha's guards. 17 17 On Discovery. Amanda informs Burnham that when she ran away from home, young Spock claimed a Red Angel told him where to find her. Burnham, in turn, reveals that she caused the rift between herself and Spock to keep him safe from logic extremists. Later, Tilly tells Burnham about May, whom she's been seeing since her dark matter accident. Burnham suspects the mycelial spores are involved. 18 18 Tilly visits Stamets, who removes May — a fungal parasite — from her body using the dark matter rock sample. On Qo'noS, the mirror Philippa Georgiou, now of Section 31, rescues L'Rell and Tyler from Kol-Sha. L'Rell tells her people she killed Tyler, a traitor; secretly, she has Georgiou take him to Boreth to place their son in a Klingon monastery. Georgiou invites Tyler to join her team.

An Obol for Charon

19 19 Enterprise's first officer, Number One, meets with Pike aboard Discovery and provides the warp signature of Spock's shuttle. Pike gives Burnham the news that they'll catch up with Spock soon, but she's decided not to see her brother. The ship's senior officers discuss the Red Angel, including Commander Saru, who's ill with a cold. Suddenly a massive sphere pulls Discovery out of warp. 20 20 The 100,000-year-old sphere infects Discovery's universal translator with a virus, causing the crew to speak in multiple languages. Saru helps Burnham fix the translator, but his illness worsens. His condition, he admits, is terminal: the sphere has triggered the vahar'ai – a biological process that prepares him to be culled for slaughter by the
Ba'ul on his homeword.
21 21 Despite his condition, Saru manages to help Burnham create digital antibodies that slow the sphere's virus in Discovery's systems. Meanwhile in Engineering, the fungal parasite that had inhabited Tilly escapes from its quarantine chamber and attaches itself to Tilly's arm. Stamets, with help from Jett Reno, hopes to talk to "May" by harmonically linking her to Tilly's central nervous system.
22 22 After Stamets and Reno fit Tilly with a cortical implant, May begins to speak through Tilly. Her species, the jahSepp, is angry because Discovery's jumps have ravaged their ecosystem. Stamets apologizes, but May refuses to let Tilly go; the parasite envelops her body. Meanwhile, Saru figures out that the sphere is trying to share its vast knowledge before dying. Its temperature is rising fast. 23 23 Discovery lowers shields and receives the sphere's massive transmission just before it explodes. The crisis averted, Burnham takes Saru to his quarters, where he directs her to sever his ganglia so he can die. "You are my family," Burnham sobs. "I love you." Before she can cut the ganglia, however, they shrivel and fall off. Somehow, Saru has escaped his fate; his vital signs return to normal. 24 24 Saru wrestles with a new sense of power and a loss of faith in "The Great Balance" – Kelpiens central truth concerning life, death, and the Ba'ul. Meanwhile, Burnham decides that when they intercept Spock, she wants to see him after all. In Engineering, Stamets and Reno cut Tilly out of the fungal cocoon, but it drugs them with psilocybin and traps her again. When they look inside, Tilly's gone.

Saints of Imperfection

25 25 As the crew deals with the loss of Tilly, they intercept Spock's shuttle. Discovery brings the craft onboard, but its only occupant is Georgiou, who is "hunting down" Spock for Section 31. Her boss, Captain Leland, contacts Pike and asks him to let Georgiou go. When Pike suggests a connection between Spock and the red burst signals, Leland sends a liaison to Discovery to learn the details. 26 26 Burnham escorts Georgiou to her shuttlecraft and warns her not to harm Spock. When Leland's liaison turns out to be Ash Tyler, Pike expresses his concern to Burnham and questions her about Georgiou, too. She promises to explain things later. Meanwhile, Tilly finds herself in the mycelial network, where May pleads for her help. "What do you need me to do?" Tilly asks. "Kill a monster." May replies. 27 27 May explains to Tilly that the "monster" arrived when Stamets opened the door to her world. It's been using a toxin to slaughter the jahSepp. Meanwhile on Discovery, Stamets reports Tilly's situation to the crew. To get her back, they need to execute a partial jump into the mycelial network. Then, Stamets and Burnham will have to find Tilly before the mycelia eat through the ship's hull.
28 28 Discovery's partial jump works. Stamets and Burnham cross the mycelial barrier bisecting the ship and find May with Tilly, who has armed herself. Soon the group meets "the monster" Hugh Culber, covered in toxic tree bark to prevent the jahSepp from attacking him. Meanwhile, the mycelia are ravaging Discovery. Tyler calls Leland, whose vessel
appears and stabilizes Discovery with a tractor beam.
29 29 Tilly stops May from shooting Culber, explaining that he was just protecting himself. Stamets theorizes that Culber's energy passed through him into the mycelial plane while Stamets was drifting between the two worlds; then the jahSepp recreated his body with mycelial matter. After May agrees to send Culber through the barrier using her cocoon, she and Tilly "pinky promise" to meet again. 30 30 Burnham, Stamets and Tilly return via the reaction cube, and Discovery jumps to normal space. In Engineering, the cocoon disintegrates to reveal Culber, much to Stamets' relief. Later, Pike transports to Leland's ship and learns from Admiral Cornwell that he and Leland must work together to find Spock. In addition, Pike's temporary liaison officer, Tyler, is now assigned permanently to Discovery.

The Sound of Thunder

31 31 As Culber adjusts to his new, "pristine" body, Saru grapples with his vahar'ai changes, including the loss of fear and the growth of spikes where his ganglia were. Discovery detects a signal over Saru's homeworld, Kaminar, where Kelpiens have lived in "balance" with their predators, the Ba'ul, for centuries. Pike hopes to discuss the signal with the Ba'ul despite their isolationist nature. 32 32 Arriving at Kaminar, Discovery's crew finds the signal has vanished, and the Ba'ul won't respond to hails. Saru flirts with insubordination as he demands to beam down with Burnham, but Pike gives his assent. Arriving in Saru's village, they are observed by "the Watchful Eye" – a Ba'ul pylon – as they seek out the local priest, Siranna. She greets Saru, her long-lost brother, with surprise and joy. 33 33 When Saru tells Siranna about his Starfleet life, her mood darkens; she's upset that he let their family think he was dead. Burnham asks about the Red Angel, and Siranna recalls seeing a "fiery sign." She urges her visitors to flee; the Ba'ul are coming. They return to Discovery, where ten Ba'ul ships approach, demanding Saru. When Pike refuses, the Ba'ul threaten to destroy Saru's village.
34 34 Burnham can't bring herself to stop Saru from beaming down and surrendering to save his village. He soon finds himself restrained with Siranna inside the Ba'ul stronghold. A Ba'ul rises from an inky pool and declares that the truth about the past – when the Ba'ul were prey to the Kelpiens – will be contained. However, Saru breaks free and crushes the drones sent to "neutralize" him and Siranna. 35 35 On Discovery, the sphere's data indicates that the Ba'ul used their technology to make the Kelpiens subservient. Saru manages to contact the ship; he posits that the signal brought them to Kaminar to create a new balance between Kelpiens and Ba'ul. With Tilly's help,
Saru broadcasts the sphere's transmission using the Ba'ul pylons around the planet, triggering the vahar'ai for all Kelpiens.
36 36 The Ba'ul prepare to destroy every Kelpien village, but a red burst in the sky disables all Ba'ul weapons as the Red Angel – a humanoid wearing an exo-suit – briefly appears to Siranna and Saru. The conflict over. Pike gives Saru's report to Tyler for Section 31, and Siranna returns home to help the Kelpiens and Ba'ul accept each other. Burnham. meanwhile, makes plans to visit Vulcan.

Light and Shadows

37 37 Determined to find Spock, Burnham takes her leave from Discovery and travels to Vulcan. Meanwhile, Saru prepares a probe to gather information on the tachyon particle anomaly left behind by the Red Angel's visit to Kaminar. Pike intends to launch the probe from a shuttle at close range. He allows Tyler to go with him, despite his distrust of the former Klingon sleeper agent. 38 38 Pike and Tyler experience temporal distortions as they approach the anomaly. When they launch the probe, a temporal shockwave pulls them into the space-time rift. Discovery has five hours to find them before they succumb to radiation exposure. Meanwhile on Vulcan, Burnham arrives at her parents' home and convinces Amanda to take her to Spock. She's been hiding her son in a monastery crypt. 39 39 Burnham is shocked to find Spock muttering the First Doctrines of Logic, and a series of numbers, over and over. Sarek arrives, displeased with Amanda for hiding Spock. She pushes back, blaming Vulcan society for not supporting their son when he suffered from L'tak Terai, similar to dyslexia. On the shuttle, Tyler argues with Pike but follows his order to ignite their fuel in three bursts.
40 40 Suddenly, Pike and Tyler's shuttle is attacked by their probe, which has traveled 500 years into the future and returned with "upgrades." Its tentacles break into the shuttle: one attacks Tyler before Pike shoots it. The severed piece attaches itself to the shuttle's controls and accesses the computer. Back on Vulcan, Sarek declares that Burnham should to [sic] take Spock to Section 31, for both their sakes. 41 41 Burnham delivers Spock to Leland, then learns from Georgiou that Leland's team will destroy Spock's mind. The two women stage a fight so Burnham can escape with Spock: Meanwhile, Discovery detects Pike's plasma flares and Stamets transports to the shuttle, but the situation deteriorates. Pike engages the shuttle's self-destruct sequence, annihilating the probe as the officers beam to Discovery. 42 42 As she analyzes the probe's data breach, Airiam sees three red dots on her screen, which briefly mesmerize her. On Leland's ship, Georgiou reminds Leland of his role in the deaths of Burnham's parents, and she gloats over his failure to prevent Spock's escape. Meanwhile, Burnham discovers that Spock's mysterious numbers, reversed, are the coordinates to Talos IV. She sets course in their shuttle.

If Memory Serves

43 43 In the wake of Spock's escape from Section 31. Leland's superiors begin to favor Georgiou, who orders Discovery to collect remnants of the probe Pike destroved. However, Pike intends to search for Spock and Burnham. After penetrating an illusion of a black hole projected by the Talosians, Burnham and Spock land on Talos IV and find Vina. who knows Spock – and Pike – from an earlier visit. 44 44 The Talosians meet Burnham underground and explain that Spock is experiencing time as a fluid construct. They can help him, but in return, Burnham must share her memory of wounding young Spock. First, the Talosians show her Spock's memory of how the Red Angel saved Burnham's life the night she ran away. Years later, the Angel returned to show Spock the destruction of sentient life. 45 45 Spock reveals to Burnham that when he tried to mind meld with the Angel, he sensed a human. The Talosians show Burnham Spock's escape from the psychiatric unit, where he incapacitated – but did not kill – a doctor and two guards to evade Section 31. Back on Discovery, Culber blows up at Stamets and then attacks Tyler, demanding to meet Voq. Saru allows their "cathartic" fight to play out.
46 46 Culber breaks up with Stamets; the man Paul knew is gone. Meanwhile, Pike finds Vina in his ready room, projected by the Talosians. Burnham and Spock appear too, and Spock tells Pike they must "follow the Angel's design" if they are to escape the dire future it showed him. Discovery tries to jump to Talos IV to retrieve the officers, but the spore drive has been sabotaged; the crew suspects Tyler. 47 47 Pike confines Tyler to his quarters, but Leland's ship still manages to follow Discovery to Talos IV. On the planet, Burnham finally shares with the Talosians her painful memory of the night she hurt her brother. Afterward, Burnham apologizes to Spock and explains that she was trying to protect him. "You value our connection," she adds. "Absurd." Spock relies. "It was foolish to idolize you." 48 48 When Pike and Leland both lock transporters on Burnham and Spock, Vina appears to Pike and convinces him to back down. Leland beams them up, only to find that his two prisoners are illusions, courtesy of the Talosians. The real Burnham and Spock reach Discovery via shuttle. Spock suggests they run, as Discovery is now the most wanted ship in the galaxy. Pike's crew backs him, and they go to warp.

Project Daedalus

49 49 Admiral Cornwell visits Discovery to question Spock about recent events. He maintains that he killed no one on Starbase 5, and his brain scan indicates he's telling the truth, despite surveillance footage to the contrary. Fearing that extremists have taken over Control, Section 31's threat assessment system, Cornwell directs Pike to set course for Section 31's forward operating base. 50 50 As Airiam sorts her memory files for the week, she also views the treasured memory of her last day with her late husband. Tilly arrives, seeking Airiam's help in decrypting transmissions that someone sent to Section 31. Meanwhile, tensions rise between Spock and Burnham as they ponder why the Angel chose Spock to expose the threat to the galaxy. Burnham proposes a game of chess to help him focus. 51 51 Burnham and Spock's chess game devolves into an angry shouting match; Spock berates his sister for taking responsibility for things beyond her control. Elsewhere aboard ship, Nhan grows suspicious of Airiam, whose efforts to decrypt the illicit transmissions seem to make things worse. Discovery arrives at Section 31's headquarters, an abandoned penal colony; sensors show no life signs.
52 52 Lethal mines besiege Discovery, but Detmer employs several evasive maneuvers to avoid serious damage. Airiam uses the crisis to execute a secret download. Admiral Patar hails from the station and claims they will all be arrested for treason, but Pike prepares a landing party anyway. In Engineering, Spock offers Stamets his thoughts on Culber while they work on the spore drive. 53 53 Burnham, Nhan and Airiam transport to the station in EV suits and find dead bodies, including Patar's, killed by Control weeks ago. Control faked her hail, as well as the video showing Spock's "murders." Tilly realizes that Airiam is compromised, and Pike warns the landing party, prompting Airiam to attack. She disables Nhan momentarily, but Burnham secures her in an airlock. 54 54 The crew concludes that Control is manipulating Airiam through her cybernetic systems to acquire the sphere's data on Al. Once conscious, it will destroy all sentient life in the galaxy. Airiam pleads with Burnham to kill her before she can do more harm. "You have to find Project Daedalus!" Airiam cries before Nhan opens the airlock. As she dies. Airiam views her favorite memory one last time.

The Red Angel

55 55 At Airiam's memorial service, the crew speaks of their departed friend. Tyler is released from his quarters: and Pike convenes a meeting to discuss control, which has been infected by an artificial intelligence from the future. Tilly reports that she found a file called Project Daedalus in Airiam's system, as well as a bio-neural signature of the Red Angel. "Michael, its you," she announces. 56 56 As the crew grapples with the ramifications of Tilly's findings, Leland's ship arrives. He and Georgiou beam aboard Discovery with a plan to capture the Angel, whose travels through time might allow the Al to follow her. Leland drops a bombshell of his own: the Angel's suit was created by Section 31 as part of the Daedalus Project, an attempt to beat the Kingons in a temporal arms race. 57 57 In Engineering, Stamets proposes to use phase discriminators to hold the Angel and prevent her from returning to the future. Georgiou notes that they can power the equipment with deuterium on Essof IV. Meanwhile, Nhan speaks to Burnham about her role in Airiam's death, and Saru spends time with Leland, trying to assess whether the Section 31 captain can be trusted.
58 58 On a tip from Georgiou, Burnham confronts Leland and demands to know what he's hiding. Leland confesses that her parents built the Angel's suit. He stationed them on Doctari Alpha with a stolen time crystal, which led to their deaths at the hands of Klingons. Shocked and outraged, Burnham hits Leland twice and storms out. Meanwhile, Culber receives sage advice from Cornwell, a former therapist. 59 59 Spock visits Burnham in the wake of Leland's confession and helps ease her suffering. He also notes a revelation of his own: the Angel appears whenever Burnham is in danger. The Discovery heads to Essof IV, where Stamets sets up his equipment to trap the Angel. Burnham will be the bait. She must subject herself to the planet's toxic atmosphere, hoping the Angel will show up to save her. 60 60 Strapped in a chair, Burnham suffers horribly while her shipmates watch in fear. Spock prevents Georgiou from rescuing her. Finally the Angel appears and saves Burnham. Something attacks Leland as he tries to close the Angel's wormhole, but Tyler finishes the job and Stamets activates his containment field. When the suit's occupant emerges and falls to the ground, Burnham stares. "Mom?"

Perpetual Infinity

61 61 Burnham awakens in Sickbay and learns that her mother, Dr. Gabrielle Burnham, really is alive. Michael wants to see her at once, but Pike directs her to review the mission logs they found in Gabrielle's exo-suit. The suit allowed Gabrielle to escape the Klingons on Doctari Alpha, but it took her 950 years into a future devastated by Control. On the Section 31 ship. Control takes over Leland's body. 62 62 Control, as Leland, orders a reluctant Tyler to steal the sphere data from Discovery's computer. Meanwhile, Discovery's crew has two hours before Dr. Burnham and her suit, currently contained on Essof IV, are pulled into the future. Gabrielle will speak only to Pike, and she's combative. "You want to help?" she asks. "Delete the sphere archive. Without that data, the Al cannot evolve. 63 63 Pike orders Saru to delete the sphere data, but it protects itself with encryption. Dr. Burnham's mission log 271 helps Spock see that his L'tak Terai was not a failing. it made him the ideal person to help her save the galaxy. Pike finally allows Burnham to visit her mother, but the meeting is contentious. "I let you go a long time ago," Gabrielle says. "There's only the bigger picture now."
64 64 Burnham and her crewmates decide to transfer the sphere data into the suit and send it far into the future, where Control will never get it. At the same time, they will modify a transporter with dark matter to beam Dr. Burnham into Discovery's time stream. Leland learns of the plan and sends Georgiou to Essof IV to plant a device near the suit; it begins diverting the sphere data to Leland's ship. 65 65 Dr. Burnham finally warms to Michael and admits she has been trying to get back to her. Meanwhile, Georgiou deduces that Leland is not who he seems. She stops the data transfer and contacts Tyler, who confirms Georgiou's suspicions. Moving fast, Leland stabs Tyler, then beams down to destroy Stamets' control station and restart his data-transter device. Georgiou fights him. 66 66 The only option left to stop Leland from getting all the sphere data is to destroy the containment field and let the wormhole take Gabrielle and her suit. "I'll find you, Mom," Burnham cries, before Gabrielle returns to the future. The officers beam up; Discovery destroys the station and rescues Tyler from an escape pod. Unfortunately, Leland escapes in his ship with 54 percent of the data.

Through the Valley of Shadows

67 67 As Burnham deals with losing her mother a second time, Discovery travels to Boreth to investigate the appearance of another signal. Chancellor L'Rell comes aboard and explains that the monastery on Boreth protects a rare mineral native to the planet, time crystals. Pike vows to acquire one to help defeat Control, despite L'Rell's warning that his mission will require great sacrifice. 68 68 Pike arrives at the Klingon monastery and meets Tenavik, one of the Timekeepers who guard the crystals. "You have traveled far for nothing," Tenavik declares, but Pike insists he won't leave without a crystal. Meanwhile on Discovery, acting Captain Saru gives Burnham permission to take a shuttle and investigate a Section 31 ship that missed its check-in. Spock accompanies her. 69 69 Burnham and Spock find the crew of the Section 31 ship floating in space, dead – except Lt. Gant, who survived in an EV suit. Spock beams him aboard the shuttle, and Gant explains that Control took over his ship. Back on Discovery, Reno notes Stamets' inability to get over Culber. She visits Culber, opens up about her late wife, and urges the doctor not to waste the second chance he's been given.
70 70 On Boreth, Pike learns that Tenavik is Tyler's son, aged by the time crystals. When Pike reaches for a crystal, he sees a future in which an accident on a starship leaves him bound to a wheelchair, horribly scarred. Though terrified, Pike takes the crystal, sealing his fate. On Discovery, L'Rell confesses to Tyler that she has accepted the truth: Tyler will always he in love with Burnham. 71 71 Looking for answers, Burnham, Spock and Gant transport to the Section 31 ship, which goes to warp. They try to isolate the Al in the ship's computer, only to find that "Gant" is the Al. He plans to use Burnham to get the sphere data from Discovery. Burnham fights him and shoots him repeatedly, reducing him to ferromagnetic nanobites. Spock immoblizes the nanobites and takes control ot the ship. 72 72 Spock and Burnham return to the Discovery, as does Pike with his hard-won time crystal. The captain tells Tyler and L'Rell about Tenavik; they're grateful for news of their son. Suddenly, a fleet of Section 31 ships confronts Discovery. Outgunned, the crew heads for a rendezvous with the Enterprise. They will evacuate Discovery and destroy it to keep Control from acquiring the sphere data.

Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 1

73 73 The Enterprise receives Discovery's crew in advance of the latter vessel's destruction. When Burnham takes hold of the time crystal to bring it with her, she sees a future in which the Enterprise suffers a severe attack. Shaken, she joins the others on Enterprise; Georgiou comes aboard, too. Pike and Saru engage Discovers remote auto-destruci sequence, but the ship fails to blow up. 74 74 Pike orders a photon torpedo strike on Discovery, but the sphere data has raised shields to protect itself. With Leland's ships on the way, Burnham suggests sending Discovery into the future. Stamets will build a time suit like Burnham's mother used, and Michael will fly it through a wormhole, with Discovery following on autopilot. However, they'll need massive power to actIvate the time crystal. 75 75 A new signal – sent, Spock surmises, by future Burnham – prompts Pike to return to Discovery with a small team and jump to Xahea. The planet is home to Tilly's friend, Queen Me Hani Ika Hali Ka Po, an engineering prodigy. The Enterprise, its shuttle and pod complement upgraded for battle by Number One, follows at warp. Meanwhile, Culber and Stamets discuss their diverging paths.
76 76 Po beams aboard Discovery and devises a plan to charge the time crystal with dark energy. She'll need power from the spore drive, making it temporarily inoperable. Reno notes that the crystal will eventually burn out. leaving Burnham stranded in the future. Tyler takes this news badly, as does Georgiou, but Burnham is resolute. Sarek and Amanda come aboard to say goodbye to their daughter. 77 77 Burnham bids farewell to her crewmates, but Spock and the senior staff declare that they will remain aboard Discovery to accompany her into the future, moving Michael to tears. Tyler elects to stay behind, to operate "in the grey areas" and make sure, something like Control never happens again. When the Enterprise arrives, Pike thanks Discoverys crew and heads to the transporter room. 78 78 Saru puts Discovery on red alert. In Engineering, the time crystal's cage is slowing the charging process, so Reno deactivates the cage, subjecting herself to a glimpse of the dire future. Georgiou reveals her mirror-universe origin just before beaming Pike and Tyler to the Enterprise, but Pike isn't surprised. Tyler takes off on an undisclosed mission just as Leland's fleet arrives.

Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2

79 79 As Burnham's suit is being completed, Leland's ships launch thousands of attack drones. The Enterprise and the Discovery, along with their combat-equipped shuttles, pods and experimental flyers, open fire, aided by Queen Po's targeting knowledge. Still, Leland's fleet inflicts serious damage. Stamets is gravely injured, but his companions complete the suit and Spock installs the time crystal. 80 80 Burnham dons the suit and flies through the battle zone to a distant piece of debris; Spock accompanies her in a shuttle. Meanwhile, Leland beams aboard Discovery for the sphere data; Georgiou and Nhan pursue him. Just then, an undetonated torpedo lodges in the Enterprise's hull. As Cornwell and Number One head to the impact site to fix the jammed blast door, a Klingon cleave ship decloaks. 81 81 Tyler has brought L'Rell and her Klingon fleet to help fight Leland. Ba'ul fighters, from Kaminar also arrive, led by Siranna. Spock and Burnham realize that Michael used each of the signals to lead Discovery to an element needed to win the battle; now she must go back and set those events in motion. On Discovery, Culber reconciles with Stamets, while Leland fights Georgiou and Nhan.
82 82 Burnham engages her suit and travels to each of the five signals before returning to Spock and setting coordinates for Terralysium, 930 years in the tuture. She will send a sixth signal to guide Discovery through. On Discovery, Georgiou manages to lock Leland in the spore drive cube. On Enterprise, Number One and Cornwell can't disable the warhead, which will explode in five minutes. 83 83 Cornwell convinces Pike it's not his destiny to sacrifice himself for the Enterprise at this moment – it's hers. She closes the blast door from the inside and dies when the warhead detonates. Meanwhile, weapons fire has damaged Spock's shuttle; he can't return to DIscovery. Burnham concludes their emotional farewell with a promise to send the seventh signal upon arriving safely in the future. 84 84 The Enterprise beams Spock aboard, and Discovery follows Burnham into a wormhole. All the Section 31 ships suddenly cease fire, as Georgiou has magnetized the reaction cube, killing Leland. The Enterprise returns to Starfleet headquarters, where the crew states that Discovery was destroyed in the battle with Control. Four months later, the Enterprise detects Burnhams signal and goes to warp.

"Short Treks" Episode Cards (1:8 packs)

Runaway

SS1 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS1 After a frustrating conversation with her mother about her efforts to enter the Starfleet Command Training Program, Tilly goes to the mess hall to drown her sorrows in an extra-caffeinated cup of espresso. The food replicator resists providing the drink, further frustrating Tilly. Victorious in her fight with the replicator, Tilly sits at a table and releases the drink from her expectations. As she takes her first sip, a haunting energy passes by her. SS2 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS2 A mysterious figure emerges from a recently-loaded case on the cargo deck at the end of shift five. The figure, a young woman, makes its way to the mess hall where it causes chaos with the food replicators. She reveals herself to Tilly who gives her ice cream. The young woman says her name is Po and says she is a Xahaen who ran away from her home planet to escape its corrupt populace. SS3 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS3 Like all Xaheans, Po was born at the same time as her planet, meaning she and her home world are twins. Thanks to their dilithium mining abilities, the Xaheans became greedy. On the eve of her coronation as queen, Po left to avoid her responsibilities. After speaking with Tilly on board the Discovery, Po decides to return to her home planet, assume her royal responsibilities, and lead her people away from their greedy ways.

Calypso

SS4 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS4 An escape pod drifts toward the U.S.S. Discovery. Its lone occupant, an unconscious soldier, is pulled aboard. He receives medical care from the ship. As he awakens, he wanders the ship, scared. The vessel has been abandoned. The ship's computer, now sentient, speaks to him, introducing itself as Zora. The soldier reveals his name is Craft, and all he wants is to return to his family and home planet Alcor IV. SS5 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS5 Zora reveals that the U.S.S. Discovery has been holding its same position in space for a millennium. She has orders to remain there until the ship's crew returns and cannot return Craft to his home planet. She introduces him to movies and music from her archives, Earth food, and other information expanding his knowledge of the human experience. He, in turn, describes his home world to her, furthering his need to return there. SS6 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS6 Touched by Zora's kindness in helping him imagine being home and nursing him back to health, Craft asks Zora to dance with him. The computer creates a holographic representation of itself to dance with him. In the middle of the dance, Craft has flashbacks to his family. He suddenly ends the dance. Heartbroken, Zora presents Craft with the last shuttlecraft aboard the Discovery, allowing him to take it to return to his home and family.

The Brightest Star

SS7 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS7 For generations, the native species of the planet Kaminar, the Kelpiens and Ba'ul, have existed in "The Great Balance." The predator Ba'ul call out specific Kelpiens who submit to the "Harvest" and destroy them. To resist the Harvest would upset the Great Balance and result in Kelpien extinction. The Kelpien Saru opposes this. He looks to the stars for safety and comfort, hopeful he can someday escape his death in the Harvest. SS8 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS8 The Ba'ul use advanced technology to monitor and control the Kelpiens. Several towers. called "Watchful Eyes" have been placed around the planet in Kelpien communities and are used to maintain "The Great Balance." Saru finds a broken piece of one of these towers, and uses it to send a signal to the stars, hopeful that someone–anyone–is listening. He is shocked when he receives a message back. that reads simply, "Hello." SS9 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS9 After receiving another message from the skies on his stolen Ba'ul communication device, Saru says goodbye to his beloved sister Siranna and departs from his village. He is met by a Starfleet shuttlecraft piloted by Lt. Phillipa Georgiou. Amazed that Saru was able to send out his message, Starfleet authorized Georgiou to offer him the opportunity to escape his world and join Starfleet. Despite having to leave his family, Saru accepts, hopeful for his future.

The Escape Artist

SS10 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS10 Harcourt Fenton Mudd is the most-wanted fugitive in the galaxy and the United Federation of Planets has placed a 100,000-credit bounty on his head. A Tellarite bounty hunter captures Mudd and seeks not only the bounty but also revenge for Mudd's romantic relationship with the Tellarite's sister and the theft of a family heirloom. Despite initially denying everything, Mudd admits to his crimes and pleads with the Tellarite to let him go anyway. SS11 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS11 Harry Mudd's nefarious activities throughout the galaxy have caught up with him. Seemingly countless bounty hunters have captured him, yet he has managed to escape permanent imprisonment at every turn. Klingons, Orions, and more have held him, desperate to get the reward on his head. Yet, time and time again, Mudd bargains, cheats, or otherwise makes his way to freedom. His time may have run out however, as a Federation vessel approaches. SS12 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS12 Harry Mudd's Tellarite captor transfers the scoundrel to a Federation vessel, demanding he receive the promised bounty. The Starfleet crew on board the ship have some bad news for the Tellarite, however. His prisoner is not Mudd, but an android duplicate. The real Mudd has been posing as a bounty hunter himself, selling the duplicates to unwitting buyers at a price lower than the bounty and escaping the consequences of his bad acts.

Q&A

SS13 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS13 Ensign Spock beams aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise for his first assignment as a Starfleet officer. In the transporter room, he is greeted by the ship's first officer, a woman known as Number One. Number One instructs Spock, as a new science officer, to ask her questions nonstop until he becomes an annoyance. Spock peppers her with queries about random topics as they enter the turbolift, on their way to the bridge. SS14 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS14 The turbolift carrying Ensign Spock and Number One to the Enterprise bridge stalls, trapping the officers inside. For hours, Spock continues asking Number One questions about a variety of topics. Number One grows impatient with the experience, and contacts engineering. Chief Engineer Upjohn offers some suggestions to help, but when they fail, she sends one of her engineers into the turbolift shaft to rescue Spock and Number One. SS15 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS15 While awaiting their rescue party in the malfunctioning turbolift, Number One offers Spock advice about command: hide the "freaky" parts of his personality. She demonstrates her secret personality quirk, singing operetta showtunes, building a bond between them. As Engineer Amin arrives to free them, Number One asks Spock to never reveal her peculiar skill. Later, on the bridge, Spock takes his station for the first time, looking out in private awe at the galaxy before him.

The Trouble with Edward

SS16 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS16 With words of wisdom about command, Captain Christopher Pike walks his now-former science officer and newly-commissioned captain of the U.S.S. Cabot Lynne Lucero to her ship. Captain Lucero and the crew of the Cabot have been ordered to help a starving civilization on the edge of Klingon space. As the senior staff of the Cabot report on their efforts, one officer, Edward Larkin, absurdly proposes breeding furry Tribbles as a food source for the planet. SS17 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS17 Despite being ordered not to pursue breeding Tribbles for food, Edward Larkin uses his own genetic material to cause them to reproduce exponentially. Captain Lucero informs Edward that she knows he was the one who sent anonymous messages to Starfleet Command complaining about her and she is transferring him off the ship. Edward protests, but Lucero has made up her mind. Edward Larkin is not the right fit for her crew and its work. SS18 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS18 Edward Larkin's experimentation with genetically manipulating Tribbles to breed them rapidly as a food source is successful. Too successful. Thousands upon thousands of Tribbles are born and get in the U.S.S. Cabot's machinery, use oxygen, and overload the ship. As Captain Lucero and her crew abandon ship, the Tribbles' breeder Edward Larkin refuses to leave and dies, buried in tribbles.

Ask Not

SS19 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS19 A Tholian attack rocks Starbase 28. A pair of security officers drag a masked prisoner into engineering's inventory room, informing the inventory officer, Cadet Thira Sidhu, that they can't take their captive to the brig because of the attack. The senior security officer orders Sidhu to watch the prisoner, arming her with a phaser. Sidhu agrees, but is shocked when the prisoner is revealed to be Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise. SS20 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS20 His hands in cuffs, Captain Pike demands to be released from custody on Starbase 28. His guard, Cadet Thira Sidhu, refuses. Pike orders Sidhu to open communications so he can diffuse the Tholian attack. Sidhu again refuses, citing Starfleet regulations and Pike's relief of duty by his superior. Pike counters with other regulations, revealing the Tholian attack began with an attack on the U.S.S. Bouman, the ship Sidhu's husband serves on. Sidhu holds steadfast, guarding Pike. SS21 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS21 Angry and defiant, Captain Pike attempts to leave his makeshift cell on Starbase 28. Cadet Thira Sidhu warns him not to, pointing her phaser at him. Suddenly, Pike's tone changes, and with a smile he ends the apparent simulation. Pike reveals to Sidhu that this was a test of her commitment to Starfleet and she passed. Pike extends an offer to serve aboard the Enterprise, something an overjoyed Sidhu had longed [sic] dreamed of.

Ephraim and Dot

SS22 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS22 Tardigrades are a unique species who travel across the galaxy via the mycelial network looking for a place to nest. One such tardigrade, named Ephraim, discovers the U.S.S. Enterprise soaring through space. Believing the ship's engineering section to be an ideal spot to lay her eggs, Ephraim sneaks aboard and makes herself comfortable. She lays deep in the underbelly of the ship, but is soon discovered by a maintenance robot named DOT. SS23 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS23 Enterprise maintenance robot Dot is determined to keep a clean ship. As such it won't allow Ephraim the tardigrade to nest in Engineering. Dot shoves Ephraim out an airlock, but the tardigrade won't leave so easily. She attaches herself to the Enterprise and is along for the ride as the vessel encounters giant green hands, long-dead American presidents, and countless Tribbles. All the while, her eggs continue to grow in Engineering. SS24 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS24 Ephraim the tardigrade's eggs have incubated in the U.S.S. Enterprise's Engineering section for more than a decade. They remained hidden during the vessel's refit through its battle with Khan. The ship's maintenance robot Dot has prevented Ephraim from reboarding, but the tardigrade mother remains undeterred, chasing the ship throughout the galaxy. When the Enterprise self-destructs above the Genesis planet, Dot rescues the hatching eggs and returns them to a grateful Ephraim in space.

The Girl Who Made the Stars

SS25 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS25 Deep in uncharted space, young Michael Burnham calls out for her father. She is scared of a lightning storm in space and asks if she can sleep with all the light's on. Michael's father says she could do that, or he could tell her a story about a girl just like her who changed the entire universe with one single tiny light, "The Girl who made the Stars." "One thousand centuries ago, he begins, "in Africa…" SS26 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS26 Millenia [sic] ago, there were no stars in the skies. When the sun set, the first people of Earth grew scared. These hunter-gatherers had only begun farming and were afraid to expand their land because of the darkness of night they called "The Night Beast." One brave girl in the village set off to find more land for her people to farm. When night came, she felt the Night Beast approaching. And she was frightened. SS27 Discovery Season Two Short Treks Card SS27 The girl from the village of the first people sees a light shooting across the night sky and crash to Earth. She finds in the light a strange being. The being sees the girl's bravery and gives her a gift to take back to her people. The girl opens the gift with her family, powerful light and energy bursting from it, creating the stars, ending the Night Beast, and forever conquering her village's fear.
