Playmates Star Trek: The Next Generation 4½" Action Figures
Playmates Toys Logo

This, the first series of Playmates Star trek action figures is, on the face of things a simple affair with ten different figures, each with their unique collection of accessories and stand. This simplicity is quickly dispelled as an illusion however, with the many variant backer cards, inserts and stickers distributed in several international market.

Paint variations are present on both the Gowron and Ferengi figures throughout all production runs of this assortment. The Gowron figure has a wide range of gold, green or no paint combinations on its leg stripes and belt buckle studs. The Ferengi is noted for being either with or without black colouring on its boots and possibly on its tunic too.

The backing cards measure 196 x 262 mm.

1992 US Series 1 - Asst. No. 6010

The original production run comprised just nine figures with the one missing being Deanna Troi. The cards for this first run can be identified by the white "BONUS ... Action Base" text on the front of the card to the left of the blister. There are two variations of the backs of these cards; the first with "PRODUCT OF MACAO" printed in white, and another version with a "CHINA. PACKAGE PRINTED IN HONG KONG. Package and Toy Sculpture © 1992" sticker placed over the original text.

Also of note for this first run are the following details; all of the La Forge figures come with a removable VISOR, all of the Ferengi and Borg figures have a reverse printed image of the figure on the back of their respective cards.

The second and all subsequent runs were printed with "BONUS ... Action Base" in black. From the third run onwards there were warning messages either stamped onto the cards or applied via stickers. These came in five forms, as shown below, and were introduced due to safety concerns relating to small parts included.
