IDW - Star Trek The Next Generation / Doctor Who Assimilation² |
They said it would never happen! Nearly five decades and 1500 episodes in the making! The two greatest science-fiction properties of all time cross over for the first time in history, in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION²! When the Federation's most terrifying enemy strikes an unholy alliance with one of the Doctor's most hated antagonists, the result is devastation on a cosmic scale! Spanning the ends of space and time itself, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance! Written by Scott and David Tipton, the authors of the critically acclaimed Star Trek: Infestaion, and featuring the beautiful painted artwork of J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel), this is the adventure that both Trekkers and Whovians have waited for all their lives! Geronimo? Make it so!.

Issue 1 - Without asking for surrender first, the Borg, accompanied by another type of cyborg, launch a surprise attack on the largest cities of Delta IV. A Starfleet task force is on its way but won't arrive before the planet is overrun. Meanwhile, the Doctor and his companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams are engaged in a chariot chase through the streets of ancient Egypt, late for an appointment with the Pharaoh. Sneaking past the palace guards, the time travelers are confronted by the Pharaoh's Vizier, an escaped alien criminal who doesn't escape the Doctor. After all the excitement, the Doctor recommends a visit to someplace cool and foggy. Attributing a rough landing in 1941 San Francisco to a bit of dimensional feedback, the Doctor feels they are bound to run into something unusual. Stardate 45635.2 |

Issue 3 - With the Enterprise under attack by Borg and Cybermen ships, Picard orders a retreat. Starfleet crewmembers have never seen Cybermen, but the Doctor's description would easily apply to the Borg. A search of historical records yields a log entry from the Enterprise, commanded by James T. Kirk. Kirk describes an unusual incident at an archeological site. Investigating a failure to check in, Kirk and his crew find the research team acting unnaturally. With the assistance of a friendly doctor, the Starfleet crew rescues the scientists from the influence of Cybermen. And the doctor? He and his Jelly Babies disappear. The researchers thought he came with Kirk! Meanwhile, the Doctor, who is remembering things that simply shouldn't be, is very worried. Picard takes the Doctor to meet an old friend. Stardate 3368.5 and shortly after 45635.2. |

Issue 4 - Captain Picard introduces the Doctor and his companions to Guinan. Like the Doctor, Guinan can sense things outside the normal flow of time and both of then know that something's wrong. The Doctor believes the Cybermen have altered the past to bring their universe to a future with the Borg. The Doctor is resolved to stop them and Guinan urges the Captain to trust their visitor. Elsewhere, the Borg/Cybermen fleet is no longer headed for Earth. Data discovers that Cogen V was being assimilated when the fleet reversed course for the planet. Picard orders the Enterprise to Cogen V, where an away team led by Riker makes a disturbing discovery. Borg and Cybermen casualties are everywhere. There are no life signs either. The Cybermen have turned on the Borg and have probably taken the Cogenians too. The Enterprise is hailed and the Captain must make a difficult decision. |

Issue 5 - Picard is adamant, refusing to open negotiations with the Borg. He'd like to see the Borg and the Cybermen destroy each other. Neither Guinan nor the Doctor can persuade him otherwise. Counselor Troi suggests to Amy that the Captain needs to hear from someone other than the Doctor. Amy invites Picard on a tour of the TARDIS and the future of the Federation, if the Cybermen aren't stopped. When he returns, Picard is finally ready to speak with the Borg. |

Issue 6 - The Borg representatives are met on a desolate planetoid. The Conduit, a drone designated to speak for the collective, explains that the Borg won't harm anyone in order to ensure their own continued existence. The Conduit returns to the Enterprise with the away team. Only then does Riker realize that the Conduit is an old friend, recently assimilated. With the Conduit's assistance, a plan is formulated to stop the Cybermen from converting the Borg homeworld and restore Borg programming. To prepare, the Enterprise must return to Naia VII for help and the Doctor, with his companions, must travel back in time to Wolf 359. |

Issue 7 - Aboard the Borg cube commanded by Locutus at the battle of Wolf 359, the Doctor, Amy and Rory quietly make their way to the central computer. The Doctor explains the insidious nature of the Borg to his companions as he makes a copy of the original Borg programming. Amy is a little shocked at the loss of life that occurred at Wolf 359 and surprised that the Doctor can't change this fixed point in time. Returning to the Enterprise, the away team is assembled. Amy and Rory refuse to be left behind. Boarding the TARDIS, the away team makes for the Cybermen armada and the Cyber-controller. Unlike a Borg ship, intruders are detected immediately. The team splits up. One group must fight their way to Engineering and stop the ship, while the rest head for the bridge to find the Cyber-controller. |

Issue 8 - Aboard the Cybermen flagship, Worf, Any and Rory fight their way to engineering and disable the ship. Meanwhile, the Doctor, with Picard, Data, and the Conduit, head for the bridge, fighting Borg-enhanced Cybermen all the way. Riker and the Enterprise catch up with the disabled flagship, bearing a golden beam that paralyzes the Cybermen, but not the Cyber-controller. Like his predecessors, the Cyber-controller proclaims that the Doctor will die and while he's jabbering about his victory, Data and the Conduit overpower the top bot, plug in, and restore the original Borg programming. With the collective restored, the Conduit sets the ship on self-destruct. Escaping aboard the TARDIS in the nick of time, the Conduit announces that Borg cooperation is over and resistance is futile. Worf and Rory promptly space him. The Doctor and his companions take their leave of the Enterprise, while the collective resolves to investigate and master time travel. |
